5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a good cordless phone/answering machine!
My experience with cordless phones has been bad.I am usually bothered by the reception, but this phone is almost as clear as my corded phone.I am also very satisfied by the answering machine.I especially like being ableto operate the message review through the handset of the cordless phone. Just make sure to read the instructions regarding battery chargingcarefully.I was amazed to learn that one should NOT store the phone inthe charger.Instead the handset charge should be allowed to expire beforeplacing it back onto the charger base.I really appreciated getting suchclear instructions from the manual.Another good reason to buy this phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Phone I've Ever Bought -- Twice!
I've got a collection of duds... 3 answering machines, 2 speakerphones, 2 cordless phones.I've never been happy with them. The answering machines would start eating tape or were not 100% reliable, the speakerphones wouldcut in and out, the cordless phones were the worst.Short battery livesand no range.

For some strange reason, I decided to toss them all awayand try again. Finally, I've found a phone that I love - and so does myfather since I got him one.Sound is crisp, clear, and loud in all modes -Speakerphone, Cordless, Answering.Functions are easy to use.The batterylasts forever, and I can easily take this phone around the block and stillget my calls. Finally, I haven't missed a call yet.The digital answeringmachine works great!

My father has bad hearing, so most phones are nogood for him.He says this is the best phone he's ever used.

4-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic for me.
I originally bought a Sony cordless phone, but had all sorts of problems with it.The battery wouldn't hold a charge; the sound would cut in and out; static would drown out any sound for five seconds, even if I wasstanding right next to the base!On recommendation of a friend, I boughtthis Panasonic, and love it.Maybe its not 900 megahertz digital whatever, but the quality is there. This quality is evident when you use the phone, and it easily outperforms a lot of the newer "high-tech" phonesthat friends of mine have in both sound and range. I have never had anycomplaints or problems with this phone. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars oh dear god!
Every bad thing said on htis page is true.this phone is no better than two tin cans and a spool of yarn.do not get this phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars I hate this phone!
I bought this phone about six months ago and the only good thing I can say about it is that I have yet to get bad reception during a conversation.Other than that ... I can't stand it.The first of its many problems isthat the buttons to control the Caller ID, call-waiting and other featuresare RIGHT where you put your hand to hold the phone.I can't tell you howmany times I (and those of my friends who have used the phone) haveinadvertently clicked over to the other line. Then, when you actually dowant to use one of the buttons to click over or check your caller ID, thebuttons are so miniscule, that it's frusterating to push them.

Thesecond major problem is that the caller ID does NOT work for call waiting. I think it has worked one time in my six month history of owning the phone. That was my main reason for purchasing it, and it doesn't even work.

Another point of frustration with this phone is that after you clickover to the other line, there is about a 2-3 second delay. You findyourself repeating, "HELLO?" over and over again until the phoneactually clicks to connect the line.I can't stand it!

There isn'tenough room to write every problem I have with this phone, but believe me... do not purchase it.I use my cell phone in favor of using my own homephone because I cannot stand it that much.

I hear nothing but goodthings about Uniden, which I plan to get very soon.Save yourself thefrustration and do the same.

4-0 out of 5 stars close to perfect
what better than to have caller id on the handset of a corless phone.I used to always have to be near the caller id box if I wanted to see who was calling -- no more. The only part I dislike is not being able to scrollthrough the caller id list when the phone in on the headset.

2-0 out of 5 stars Caller ID Only Works Half the Time
Thinking Panasonic has been around forever and has probably worked most of the kinks out of its cordless phones, I bought this one. The phone worked well enough with it's more basic features. However, at least half the time, the phone did not register the Caller ID number that people called me from. And I'm not referring to when a caller is "Out of Range" or theirnumber is "Unavailable". Half the time the caller ID panel was*blank* when someone would call. I recommend any Uniden phone, which iswhat I replaced this with - Uniden makes solid phones that work exactly asadvertised.

4-0 out of 5 stars Caller ID with Call Waiting Feature
I really like this phone except for one thing. When I'm on the phone and someone calls the Caller ID /Call Waiting feature only works half the time.I called tech support and followed their instructions and it didn't help.I exchanged the phone for another one and still no luck. I really like thephone if only that feature worked because that is the most importantfeature to me. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy it!
I purchased this phone and it has been a headache ever since I got it charged up.It has horrible static and clicks when in use. Those that I am talking with complain that they cannot understand me because it constantly cuts out.I have sent it back to the customer service to get it fixed, but who know what will happen with it.I'd recommend passing up this phone and going with a different one.Saving the lower price for a two line phone wasn't worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good phone
OK, I like cordless phones. Always have. When they work well they duplicate the functions of wired phones with freedom to move around the home or office. The problems with them can be: poor range resulting in static or dropped calls, short battery life requiring lots of time on the cradle, poor fidelity, interference with other devices (which I have experienced with some 2.4 Ghz models- so I came back to 900 Mhz). This Panasonic 2-line unit suffers from none of those shortcomings. In addition, the phone features are genuinely useful and work flawlessly. Line 1 and Line 2 indicators tell me which line is ringing, and when another extension is using a line elsewhere in the house (the Panasonic will automatically choose the free line for your outgoing call). Unlike other phones I have had, I can be on the Panasonic and my wife can join in the conversation from another extension (wired or cordless), just like picking up 2 wired extension phones. Caller ID features work well and quick saves from the Caller ID list to the Panasonic's internal phonebook are simple and intuitive. Even the speakerphone works well, so nice when multiple family members want to chime in all together from the patio when the grandparents call. The Amazon price beat everyone else when I bought this phone, but the price went up a little when I went back to buy a second one - I like it that much. It would be nice if Panasonic offered:
a) second battery to stay charged in the phone base to keep the unit operational during power failures. b) Speakerphone at the base station. c) microphone mute- conspicuously absent here. d) More range - they offerSST models they claim to quadruple the range at substantially more money - I may try one to see.
Bottom line- If... youhave Caller ID service from the phone copmpany, this is the phone to buy.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!
This is my third Panasonic 900Mhz cordless phone and I have to say that I am sorely disappointed in it. I purchased this phone about 4 months ago. It seemed to have all the features I wanted in a phone; Two lines so I could answer both my home and office numbers, speakerphone in the hand unit for those times I have to call my DSL provider for support and get put on hold for a 1/2 hour... That stuff is real cool, except the phone itself is useless.
If I go further than 5 feet from the base station, the unit will emit loud pops and clicks. People are constantly asking my to speak up because they can't hear me. It is the most frustrating thing on earth to try speaking with someone while the phone is popping clicking and they can barely hear you.
I returned the phone in exchange for a new unit - I figured I may have received a bad one and it was past the 14 days I had for a full refund. The new unit had the same problem. I thought that maybe my other cordless phones were causing interference, so I unplugged all of them and even turned off all of my computer equipment - everything remotely electrical in the house had been turned off - even my cell phone. The KXTC1723 STILL has the same problem!!!
My other two Panasonic 900Mhz cordless phones are outstanding performers. I have had them for a few years now. I am very severely disappointed in the KXTC1723 model phone and will never purchase another Panasonic item again (so much for that HDTV I had my eye on).

This phone finally pushed me over the edge:

I was on a call earlier this morning with my mortgage agent and again had to play the repeat-myself game over the pops and clicks (as if refinancing isn't stressful enough). Mid sentence, I just could not take it anymore. I snapped off the antenna and threw the phone against the wall hard enough to send the battery into low-earth-orbit. I then courteously escorted the KXTC1723 unit to the garage where I introduced it to the business end of my Stanley 20oz Claw Hammer.

Problem Solved.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent 2-line Cordless Phone, especially Caller ID
I have owned this phone for about 2 months. When I bought it, I was concerned that a second 900 MHz cordless phone might interfere with the Sony SPP-M937 that I already use. I have not had any interference, possibly because of the Panasonic's Auto-scan feature. The clarity is good, even across the house, and it uses a standard replaceable NiCad battery which recharges in the base. I was especially pleased with the search button in the center of the keypad, which accesses many menu functions with oneor two pushes. It works well with Caller ID; all messages are logged, and can be added to the 50 number directory with a single button push. The size of the handset, weight and durability are also good. Two small criticisms: the 50 number directory may be small for some, and I would like a way to switch off the Caller ID log, which logs each call that comes in. For the price, this is a great phone. ... Read more

After two weeks, we can report being very satisfied with this phone. The overall quality and ease of use is up to the solid Panasonic standard -- ata very attractive price. The sound quality and range is excellent withalmost no degradation at a long distance from the base. The speakerphoneworks well and, as we've never had one at home before, it's both novel anduseful. The answering machine has all the right features and was easy toset up and use.Only small quibble:the ringer on the high setting isharsh; however, the low setting is quite bearable. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars What a step up from th cheap analogs
I have been the historical victim of over priced "neat looking" cordless phones that would not let me roam more than 8 ft from the base when my computer was on.My whole world changed when this phone ended up in my lap thanks to my engineering brother who was sick of me putting down the phone 20 times during a long distance call to go get something even though I was on a crdless phone. With this PANASONIC DSS phone, I am not only free to move around my apt, and my apt building but I can also roam about 2/3 of a block away in incredibly dense population without loosing the person on the other end.The sound, compared to everything else I was using, is clear, although it is probably not as wonderful as a land line but is that a big surprise?I think it is worth every penny.I am replacing all the phones at my folks place with this one-gigarange is overated.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Well, like all other 900mhz DSS phones I've heard, this one has poor sound quality (I had reason to hope since I own one of Panasonic's excellent 900mhz analog phones). The sidetone isn't as bad as what I've heard in other 900 DSS phones, but it's still there and the sound isn't close to analog. I called my wife as a test, and she said it sound like I was talking in a box. Alas, for those of you wanting a phone with digital security that sounds good, I have no answer. The Panasonic 2.4gig phones sound good, but are apparently not fully secure as they transmit partially in analog... sigh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great"no frills" phone
I've had this phone for about two weeks now, and so far, I love it.I've had cordless phones in the past with lots of extras like dual keypads and speaker-phones and I never used these features.I don't use caller ID and I have a perfectly good answering machine. All I wanted was a good quality cordless phone that couldn't be easily over heard by neighbors baby monitors.I got just that. This phone has incredible range, excelent sound quality, and great battery life. The DSS gives us peace of mind for security too.The only fault I can find with this phone is the speaker hole for listening. It's very small and is located high up on the handset.Beacause of this, it's easy to let the phone "ride up" while you're talking and it sounds as if the volume is dropping off.Just pay attention to how you hold this phone and you'll be very happy with it! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Good phone ...but battery fails
I love the phone and its features, but the battery fails on you quite often. After overnight charging, it won't last for 3 minutes. After a few days of this, the battery completely fails. We ended up getting a new phone

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall, very pleased
I appreciate all the comments on this review board. They were a big help to me in deciding which phone to buy.

This phone works very well and we are pleased with the purchase. We use the phone as our primary home phone and also during the day for a home office. I've noticed slightly different tonality compared to our other phones, but the reception is clear throughout the house and in the yard. The features I've used so far have been easy to use.

The only drawbacks so far have been (1) the lack of a mute button - particularly when using the speaker phone; (2) the ringer can't be turned completely off; and (3) making use of some of the phone features seems a bit complicated, so I haven't bothered.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality
I have had this phone for several months and found it to be of very poor quality. The phone regullary just cuts out where I cant hear the person on the other side, and have to change channels. There is always a hissing noise on the phone and very often crackling in the background. I have two different phones of this model and have the same problem with both of them. The phones also say out of range alot, even though they are only 2 feet from the base. I advise against this phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality phone
This is a great phone! The sound is crisp and clear and the quality of construction is top notch.I bought two of these to replace aging VTech phones and I'm glad I did.I'm also going to order a third one for the bedroom. You can't miss with this phone. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not very good.
I bought one in October and am now searching for another phone. There are problems when someone calls, it disconnects after two rings and there's a lot of static.

1-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic Big Button Phone
I bought this product for my father who is going blind from macular degeneration.I thought the big buttons would be easy to use. They were, however the phone lacks the ability to be programed for numbers that he uses regularly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dead On Arrival!
Well, I had high hopes that this would be a simple, easy to use, reliable, good quality phone . . .

WRONG!It was dead and hopelessly so.I called Panasonic's service number and they offered a few obvious suggestions and I followed all of the troubleshooting tips in the instruction flyer that came with the oh-so-dead phone. No luck!I'm trying again and have a replacement (same model) on order. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars There must be better phones out there.
I've had this phone for over a year and have been pleased with all aspects of it except for the reception.I do not use it over a wide area range. However, the phone never fails to fade out temorarily during a conversation. This has happened both in my current and my previous apartment.I also use a Sony SPP-D900 which I've had since '97 and although it has fewer features, it remains consistently reliable and clear (and is still running on the same battery as when I first bought it).

5-0 out of 5 stars good phone
I like this phone.I especially like the feature of being able to scroll through the caller ID's on the handset and when you find the one you want, you can just hit one button to call that person back.Battery seems tolast a long time.

has program memory and all the standard features andthe voice quality is very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent phone
Our house has gone through countless cordless phones over the years. This is by far the best cordless phone we've ever used. The CID feature is great. An excellent buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!
I hadn't had a cordless phone in years because of the....quality of mylast one. Well, this one changed my perspective. I can use it all overmy house and yard (a one-acre lot!), and it's clear as a bell! I love the voicemail indicator & button (which dials your voicemail & passcode) and the built-in callerID as well. I use the "direct" button to store a calling code (such as 10-10-220), and the speed dial buttons are great-- though, I would prefer it if there was some way to label them or do lookup on the callerID screen. It will, however, call back a number from the callerID, and that's helpful, too.

All in all, a great phone... much better than I expected! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Battery won't hold a charge
One the unit I bought, the battery, after 1 year of light use, will not hold a charge of more than 15 minutes (supposed to be many hours)

2-0 out of 5 stars Convenient, but low headset volume and short battery life
The phone is very convenient for the user; especially used on a belt with a headset. However, remote users complained of low, distant sound. Most disappointingly, the battery life has deteriorated quickly, and after a year it is nearly unusable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Follow the directions on the unit (not like me)
Good user interface, very sturdy, well built. Voice quality is as good as cordless phones get, though they still are not as good as an average land line phone. The three line LCD displays complete Caller ID info without scrolling.

Be Fair Warned !!

We made the mistake of returning the remote unit to the base after every call, which they tell you with a big sticker, not to do until the recharge light comes on. We are now down to 10 to 15 minutes of total talk time before recharging. Don't do what we did, follow the directions and fight the urge to return the remote unit to its base after a call is completed.

2-0 out of 5 stars 8 Months old and already dying!
I've never written a poor review for a product so I'm reluctant, but given that the phone is so new and is now having so much trouble, I figure I'd better warn other consumers. Also I bought this phone primarily because of customer comments here, so I might as well share this experience.

While it could be that I just managed to get a lemon, the fact that this product worked beautifully for six months leads me to think otherwise.Usually lemons never work. For six months this phone was great, but about a month ago the LCD screen's contrast got rather dark and unfixable making the Caller ID and directory hard to read.

Now the phone has begun randomly cutting out--it will stay connected to the party with whom I'm speaking, but it goes dead for a few seconds and neither party can hear the other. It has also started crackling at random.I try switching channels, but to no avail.

The phone was great when it worked properly.Given its longevity and its price ... I would strongly recommend checking out a different phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Elementary Test
This isgreat phone till you are on a receiving end speaking to someone who is using it. The sound is very poor. As other people noticed it sounds as if you are in a cave. Often people using the phone are nor aware of it. I think it is an essential element of a phone to transmit a decent sound. This phone fails this elementary test. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard to find combination of features
It was the particular combination of features that sold me on this phone. So many I looked at had some, but not all of the features I needed. Here is my list: dual keypad (so I can make a phone call when the handset is lost), digital duplex speakerphone (doesn't mute the other party when you're talking), the voicemail waiting indicator light, caller ID, and lighted keypad. The fact that I can wander half way down the street and still get phone calls doesn't hurt either. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars One of the few that will page you
I've had mine for probably a couple of years now and the LCD display has sections that are unreadable.I'm trying to find a replacement, but for some reason, no one has a key feature that I depend on with this answering machine: Pager Call. When someone leaves a message, it can call a pager (which I have programmed to call my cell phone).I'm about to go buy a couple used ones to keep that feature without having to buy something expensive.

It has good quality recording, and the phone handset has louder volume than the vtech 2.4ghz cordless phones I use (for the 2-line capability), but being analog, there is occasional static.

The display problem is really the only downside to it...

3-0 out of 5 stars It's an "OK" phone.
This phone was pretty expensive when I bought it several years ago at Best Buy. I had to laugh when I saw it being offered for under $20 here. (A wry laugh, that is).Overall, the phone has worked well for me. All of its features work and they have come in handy for me. On the downside, its weak points are the receiver volume is weak and the battery/recharging system has problems.I just go into a quieter room if I can't hear the caller well enough. It isn't really a problem. I use a headset with the receiver for hands-free operation without a problem.I am still using the original battery. I think the key to good battery use is to NOT keep the battery on the charger all the time. Charge the battery when the display indicates, otherwise keep it off the charger. Occasionally, let the battery totally run itself down, then charge it back up. (My cellphone battery charger has a Discharge button on it for just this purpose). For the last 6 months or so, my Panasonic cordless phone battery has been acting erratically. Sometimes, it will run for days just fine or a day, then cut the phone off with no warning at all. I used to get a warning beep. Fortunately, if I can get to my corded phone the other party is still connected. It's probably time to replace my cordless phone battery. That's how I got here. I read the other reviews and thought I would express mine. In my opinion, if I could get this phone for $20 NEW, it would be a steal.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy Phone from a lousy company
Panasonic products seem to be engineered to start failing exactly after the 1 year warranty. First, this phone started losing battery power after about 30 minutes of talking. Changing batteries didn't help. A couple of months later, the charging has completely stopped.

Incidentally, my Panasonic DVD player failed exactly 1 year 3 months after I bought it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Panacrapic
This phone was a disaster from purchase. Problem No.1: The voice of the incoming caller frequently cannot attain suitable volume for even minimal intelligibility. The first week of purchase I spent approximately 6 frustrating hours (on a neighbor's phone) with Panasonic's "customer service" dept., trying to discern & alleviate the problem. Finally (this is about 10 daysafterpurchase), I said I wanted to return the phone in exchange for a new one.Therep du jour refused, telling me my onlyoption was to sendthe phone back to the company and wait6 to 8 weeks for repairs to be completed.
Problem No. 2: Panasonic [is bad]. I sent a letter to the president of Panasonic complaining about the company'scustomer-hostile return policy:Obviously, I would have to buy a new phone while I waited the six weeks for Panasonic to squeeze, prod, and send back its lemon. No one ever responded in any form.
Problem No. 3: Constant, ongoing, battery failures. From the start, the battery could only tolerate10 to 20 minutes of conversation, and the whole phone goes dead after 30 minutes. I ALWAYS keep the headset nestled in the station, so it is not being drained when not in use. I bought a brand new battery and charged it up: Same exact problem. I'm going back to a rotary, if I can find one...

2-0 out of 5 stars I bought it because it was a Panasonic, but returned it.
My old Panasonic 900MHz phone is the best cordless phone that I've ever used. However, I wanted to upgrade in order to get the caller ID, a headset jack, and phone directory features.

I didn't see any reason to get a 2.4 GHz phone, since clearly my 900 Mhz (analog) phone worked perfectly for my application, so I chose the 900 MHz DSS KXTC1871. Feature wise, it had everything that I could want in a phone.

However...:

1) The phone directory was uncomfortably slow... moving from entry to entry took way longer than it does in my cell phone.

2) People on the other end of the phone could immediately notice that I was on a new phone. The voice quality on my end seemed fine, but they complained.

3) The phone would sometimes cut out and beep at me, but I had no idea why and was always within 15 feet of the base station.

To it's credit, I was impressed with the follow features:

1) The speakerphone was good, meaning voice quality was very acceptable.

2) The answering machine was great. No complaints whatsoever.

I don't think it's impossible to make a perfect home phone. There's nothing special about cordless phone technology these days, and they should be at least as useful as my trusty Nokia cell phone and sound as good as my *old* Panasonic 900 MHz phone. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Short life span!
I've owned this phone for a little more than a year.At first I was very satisfied not only with the features, but also with the voice quality.Unfortunately, by now the phone is barely usable and I am already looking for a replacement.

First, the battery life was adequate for nearly the first year.I would get about 4 hours of talk time, which was okay. However, the standby time was not very good... If I left home for a weekend, the phone would inevitably be dead upon my return. However, after 1 year, the battery life has shortened significantly to about 2 hours of talk time. The indicator is also of very little use because it will go from 2 out of 3 bars to dead.

Secondly, the main reason I am replacing this phone (I could always buy a replacement battery) is that the phone randomly cuts out all the time.At first I thought it might be interference from my home wireless network, but I noticed this was also a common complaint from other users.Frankly, the frequent dead silences are too great of an annoyance for me and for the people I am talking to.

If this phone is still available for purchase, I would recommend against it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good sound with bad usability
I really wanted to like this phone. It has wall mount, digital spread spectrum, excellent sound quality, a comfortable handset, and a good feature list. After two days, I can't stand using it anymore.
- You can't dial the phone from the base if you are using the handset - defeats the whole purpose of multiple keypads.
- The caller ID won't stop blinking without picking up the handset and going through multiple menu items.
- The phone won't let you step through the names in the stored directory any faster than one per second.
- Speed dial only works on the base, not the handset.
- Speed dial and the stored directory don't work together.
- Transferring calls between the speaker phone and the handset is a tedious, noisy operation.
- No mute button.
- Too much loud beeping that you can't turn off.
In short - if you aren't a phone power user, don't pay for the extra features on this phone. If you are a power user, find a phone designed by someone with common sense.I'm still looking.

3-0 out of 5 stars handset volume a little too low
the volume on the handset is too low, especially when using a headset.Too bad because it would be a great phone. It has great range.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good, with a few exceptions
Yes, the lack of mute button is annoying.

I also like to turn off my ringer at night, and instead of having a switch on the phone (like my previous Panasonic cordless) you have to wade through several menus, while the thing beeps at you loudly for each menu item/choice.When my wife is sleeping while I try to set this... well, it's sort of against the whole *point* of turning the ringer off.

The other annoying thing I find is the "Voicemail indicator" (blinking light), while a very nice feature, often won't go off after you've deleted your mailbox of voicemail (this is phone company type voicemail service - not built-in voicemail on the phone - which it doesn't have). And now, the thing is permanently on (blinking).I can't seem to get it to go away, even after unplugging the unit.Weird.

Other than that, this phone is very nice.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good all-round phone except for one major omission
This phone generally works well. The fast battery charging, caller-ID and sound quality are fine. Just one problem: there is no microphone mute! This seems to be an IMPORTANT, simple, feature lacking from most Panasonic phones. Why, I don't know. If I am in a conference call, and others are not easily heard, I have to turn the volume up to the max, and then the slightest sound (e.g. keyboard clicks) at my end engages the anti-microphony muting and I miss the next 10 second of their conversation! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars At first it was great, now it's a PAIN.
I agree with most of the reviewers here. When I first bought this phone, it was the only one out there in a sort of reasonable price range that had two lines and was able to have separate answering messages for the two lines (important because I have a fax machine hooked up to the machine).I also bought another 2-line Panasonic phone at the same time (without answering machine) for another area in my house. Both phones are terrible. The 2nd phone I bought cuts out all the time and people can't hear me.It constantly loses a connection to the base and also won't answer when I pick up the phone to answer. Now for this model KXTC1891...less than two years later and my battery is dying like you wouldn't believe! And it's another $20 to replace the battery! When you're on speakerphone, people can't hear/understand you.If you accidently bump the phone and the ac adapter comes unplugged, you have to reset your time/day.It doesn't have any shortterm memory to keep this information (but it will keep any saved messages you have). So now I'm looking at a new phone since I'm having problems, the quality of Panasonic phones are TERRIBLE and I really need the expandable concept in my house since I only have 1 phonejack for my entire first floor of my house. The selection out there for expandable 2-line phones is somewhat limiting especially since I'm not going to touch a Panasonic again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of features
We bought one of these in December 2002, and it has
worked perfectly for us. It was a little cumbersome to
set up (some settings are easier or only available
if you use the handset menu), but once we learned its
quirks, we have had no troubles. Just bought a second
one for vacation house.

3-0 out of 5 stars Suspect Battery Problems
I bought this phone for use in another part of the house.I have two other 2 line Panasonic phones ( older versions of this one) and have never had a problem with them. This phone worked fine for one day.The handset died an I assume the battery may have been the problem.I exchanged it for another one.

I don't use the answering machine portion of this phone, but I wanted the dual Caller ID screens, so I bought this one.

I will let you know how this replacement phone works in a few weeks.

Overall I have had good luck with Panasonic unitl now.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you like being frustrated - this phone is for you!
If you like to HAVE TO answer your phone using the speakerphone - this is your phone!

If you like to CONSTANTLY UNPLUG your phone to try to get the handset to work with the base - this is your phone!

If you like buttons that stick and double-punch - this phone is for you!

If you like calling Panasonic to complain, only to be told that there is nothing they can do while they admit that they have troubles with their phones in general - place your order today!

If you like pouring your money down the drain - now's your chance!

If you have any sense at all - run away as fast as you can!

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk
I have been thoroughly disappointed by this phone. The only reason I didn't take it immediately back to the store I purchased it from was because there was no comparable phone out there (for less than [amt]) in terms of features when I bought this piece of junk.

I have generally always been a fan of Panasonic products and have another 900mhz phone made by them which works wonderfully.

But this phone rarely allows me to pick up the handset and actually make a call.It simply cannot "make a connection to the base".It consistently asks me to put the handset back on the base and try again.Note, I'm only 2 feet from the base at most.

It has this same problem when I try to answer a call.It has gotton so bad that I've given up trying to answer with the handset and just pick up via the speakerphone.Once again, two feet from the base.

Lastly, the handset is too small. Why does every manufacturer think a business oriented phone needs a handset the size of a matchbox (exaggeration of course).I'm using this phone in my home office, not trying to carry it around with me like a cell phone.I personally like something that caresses my entire cheek so I can actually tell where the phone is.
Take my advice, if you got the money, try something different, don't buy this thing, or buy one of the el-cheapo units out there. At least with the el-cheapo units, if they don't work you won't feel you've been ripped off so much. ... Read more
