5-0 out of 5 stars Holds well / Sounds good
What else do you expect a headset to behave? I use it all the time on my panasonicKX-TG2216, 2.4 Ghz phone. It's rugged and stylish with volume control and mute. Would recommend as a safe options to hands free environment.

4-0 out of 5 stars 1 Suggestion, 1 Hack (and 2nd review on this item)
My only suggestion for improving this headset is that Panasonic should redesign the mute switch to allow the user to hit the button and remain on mute without holding down the button.

I did a little work with a scalpel to remove some of plastic housing around the plug, so that I could use this headset with my Xbox Live voice module. The headset works great in that context as well as with a cordless or mobile phone.
*** My 2nd TCA92 review(04Jun2005 -- 1st was 15May2004) ***
I read the other reviews, and maybe it's my good fortune that I'm using Panasonic 2.4 gig phones that were top of the line for their time. The phones sound great, the internals are solidly engineered, and I get killer sound from my headset. I generally turn the phone all the way up & the headset all the way down.

As far as durability, my Panasonic phones have been through 4 years of hard use and even some abuse. Like the phones, my headset has survived both as well. I threw this headset (angry at something other than the headset), hard enough to break the folding part that grips the user's head. I glued that back on, snapped the speaker assembly back together and went on as usual. This headset takes a beating, in my experience, so the other reviewer who experienced a failure must really have worked it over, or somebody else did & then wouldn't cop to it.

Anyway, I visited Amazon tonight to buy one of Panasonic's 5.8 gig phones as a gift -- another testament to my satisfaction with these phones.

Ps. I don't work for Panasonic, but rather a subsidiary of a large software company based in Redmond, Washington. Just so you know I'm not on the take.

1-0 out of 5 stars this headset breaks easily
Like others, I found that this headset worked for only a short time. Then I found that while I could hear the person I was calling, they couldn't hear me.

So I opened up the earpiece and found the problem:a wire had broken off the small chip that serves as the connection point between the mouthpiece and the earpiece.I soldered it back on, and the headset worked again.

In a week or two the same thing happened.I had to re-solder it.

The third time, I tried soldering it again, but more wires had broken off and I just gave up.

The problem seems to come from moving the mouthpiece. It CAN be twisted all around, but apparently that pulls on the wires inside and that's what breaks them off.

From what other people have described, I think this was what caused the problem they had.

I was happy enough with the headset itself -- when it worked, which wasn't for long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good sound.
In my experience, headsets need to match the phone you want to use them with. This headset works well with my Uniden phone ( PowerMax 5.8 ghz, 2 line). My voice is clear to the people I call. The volume in the ear piece is louder than with any other headset I have tried. The quality of the sound is acceptable but it lacks "richness".

This is a new unit for me and I can not address the reliability issue that other reviewers mention. I have found most headsets to be delicate and easily broken. The $16.00 dollar price at Amazon is better than full price at Office Max but it is still a dispoable item.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great, While it worked!!
I loved this headset while it worked.Fit great.Loved the mute feature. It lasted about 3 months and quit. Couldn't hear anything. Tried to take it back to retailer.Wouldn't do anything for me, said I should have bought the extended warranty. Yea, right!! On a $30 item!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars simple and convenient
With all the failed trials of poor quality of 900 MHz and X-10 wireless audio, I've been waiting for audio powerline products for years. Finally!!! This is the first product of its kind and I can't understand why these speakers aren't in every store around the country. They are cheap, you don't have to run wires through your house, and you don't have to configure some confusing and expensive computer based wireless systems with all their components and software. It's perfect.

I live in a one bedroom apartment in a small 6 story building. I connected standard left and right audio plugs from the output of my small bookshelf stereo to the input of the RC970 transmitter. I plugged the AC plug of the transmitter into a wall plug in my living room.

I read that surge protectors can interfere with any type of powerline technology whether it be audio, Ethernet, USB, etc., so I reserved a wall outlet solely for the transmitter.

Then I plugged one speaker into a wall outlet in my bedroom and the other speaker in the bathroom. I switched both speakers to the mono setting. I discovered that this setting actually mixes the left and right channel signal for playback. This is evident by the sound level boost as opposed to the lower sound level when only one (left or right) channel setting is selected on the speaker.

I set the transmitter and the speakers to the same transmission and receiving channels. I turned on my stereo and played a CD, went to the two rooms, turned on the speakers and now I have music throughout my home.

One thing I did discover that you should know about. When I plugged in a speaker into a wall outlet that was on the same circuit as my fairly high wattage ceiling halogen track lights there was static and interference. To correct the problem, I simply moved the speaker to another AC outlet and the problem was solved.

The sound quality is very very respectable for the size and configuration of these speakers. I never expected them to sound like expensive, in the wall, hardwired speakers. I was looking for a good combination of installation ease, quality and price. I found it!!

I bought the complete set of transmitter and 2 speakers on Ebay for $70. Excellent deal!

I would recommend these speakers highly to anyone who wants to broadcast music throughout their house on a budget without tearing up the walls to install wires and in wall speakers. Truly amazing!!

3-0 out of 5 stars This is a decent product!
I bought a refurbed pair from eBay. I experienced no static issues
from any outlet in the house. Sound quality is OK and is better
than wireless speakers I have tried.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just do not work
I have these in same room with transmitter, and have tried all ways of tuning/locating.When they work, very good, but they will not stay tuned on same program. Emit loads of static and whistles. Will only tune with volume at max on tv. Upstairs I have ARs & they work wondorously, even on low TV volume. The ARs also emit a wider sound spectrum. These RCAs are not as good as the speakers that came with my PC.

1-0 out of 5 stars A good idea that failed in execution.
My intent was to pipe music from my living room to my office (about 25 feet). The RCA RC970 Powerline Speakers seemed like a good idea that unfortunately failed in execution. I tried five different speaker locations in my office, and any combinations of power outlets that they would reach in those different locations, and none of them worked in stereo. One or the two speakers would not have signal either immediately or loose signal in moments. I spent dozen's of trips back and forth setting the different channels on the speakers and the base station trying to get a setup to work. I also experienced interference static at one setup position when the speaker was within two feet of my computer monitor. I would not recommend these speakers to anyone, however if your considering one speaker per room set to mono or using outlets in the same room as the base station than I could understand your considering them, for when I tested them in the same room that had the base station they functioned correctly. When the speakers worked the sound was good, better than any computer speaker systems I've heard although less that you could expect to hear from similarly priced speakers hard wired into your system. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars the best headset i've ever used (and i've used 'em all)
i helped develop the danger hiptop (aka "t-mobile sidekick) and hated holding its brick-like nature to my head ... i wanted a good headset ...

the only problem is i *hate* earbuds, so i wasn't looking forward to shopping for/buying one.i went to the local super-electronics store, and abusing their return policy, bought one of every headset they had to try -- 23 headsets to be exact ... i picked up the jabra only to be a complete-ist, figuring there was no way i'd buy its star-trek-bugs-crawling-in-chekov's-ear styling.

but after trying them all, the jabra was *easily* the best feeling and best fitting.

in a nutshell, here are the things i like about this unit in particular:

* it comes with 6 different fittings (3 sizes for the right and the left), so you get a chance to get a *much* closer fit than some generic ear piece.

* contrary to what others have said here, the ear pieces stay *very* snug in your ear (if they don't, you're not fitting them correctly).

* i wear glasses, so i can't tolerate over-the-ear headsets.this, of course, is great in that way.

* i like having the model with the microphone boom over the classic ear-only jabra because it:

1. let's people know you're talking on the phone, and less likely to interrupt you while you're talking.

2. i drive a convertible and the mike cover is good enough that i can easily talk to people with the top down and be heard without a ton of wind noise.

* it's small and easy to wrap up into my cell case.

also in the newest version, they've adding a securing "lip" to the rubber ear pieces that keep them from falling off the ear piece (this definitely was a problem before).

to top it all off, jabra's support is excellent.i called their 800 number when my securing clip for my shirt broke and they immediately sent me *three* replacements, free of charge, along with a ball point pen for my "troubles."

at 10 bucks, these things are a steal ... using one with my hiptop is a joy -- it means i can still contruct sms's, type in emails, add messages and addresses to my address book whilst talking on the phone.if you have a data device of any kind, this will make your phone experience twice as good.

a truly great product from a company that knows how to treat its customers right.what more could you want?

thanks for reading.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good unit at a great price.Worth a shot.
Jabra makes, by far the best hands-free devices on the market. This particular model, the EarBoom, is not with it's faults. However, it will meet your needs for the most part if you figure out it's peculiarities.

Jabra provides multiple ear gels for comfort and for left ear or right ear use.The criticism that they are hard to get used to is valid. You have to try putting them in different ways till you figure it out.The instructions are not a substitute for trial and error I suppose.

As for the hands-free jack on your phone, you have to make sure you have a 2.5 millimeter jack. That is the one with 2 stripes on the plug.Unfortunately, a specific compatibility list is hard to come by.Look at the specs for your phone and give it a try.

The microphone will capture sound just fine, despite the short arm.If you find people are telling you your voice is muffled, you must slighly twist the microphone head.I have found that sometimes, if it is at the wrong angle, it will not capture sound as well. The arm is flexible enough that it can be adjusted slightly.

I also prefer the EarWave Boom or the EarWrap, which have wraparound ear attachments and a slightly longer more solid arm.The Jabra EarWave Bud doesn't have a microphone arm, but instead has the small mic on the cable with a clip to attach it to your tie.Personally I don't like those models.I have not found much difference in sound quality, though the EarWave Boom and the EarWrap are somehow easier to figure out.

For difficulty of use and for a microphone arm style that I just don't like, I have docked this unit 2 stars. It should be noted that none of Jabra's newer models have this microphone arm any longerBut this is good bang for the buck.Try other higher end models if you are more demanding, like I am, and are willing to spend the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars great, but confusing
I think this is a pretty good earpiece...granted, I've only used one other (it was a flimsy little thing that came w/ my friend's Nokia), but this one far surpasses that one in sound quality and comfort.Where my friend's would fall out of my ear, this one (once I got it figured out) never comes loose.Second, listening to people on my friend's, I would have to turn up the sound to hear the person well, and then they sounded muffled and distorted; but on my Jabra I can actually turn down the volume on my phone and they sound crisp and clear-- moreso than when I'm not using the earpiece. Finally, when my friend calls me and uses her earpiece, she sounds distant and muffled; I've had no complaints from the people I'm talking to using the Jabra, and, in fact, my mom said it sounds better when I use the EarBoom than when I don't.

The ear gels are a bit hard to get used to.They are oddly shaped (as you can see in the picture), and there are six of them total-- three of them for each ear.Lots of reviewers complained about the fit and comfort of the ear gels, while others claim these are the most comfortable earpieces they've used and that they fit perfectly...I can honesly say I've had both experiences. When I first got this unit the earpiece kept falling out everytime that I would turn my head: *very* frustrating.I tried pushing it into my ear as hard as I could, I tried holding it in place with my hand, but that only seemed to defeat the purpose of having a hands-free earpiece.Nothing seemed to work.I was thinking of returning it.I was thinking of throwing it into traffic on I-95.And then one day, somehow, I came to the realization that you have to sort of twist it into your ear-- with the little poky-out part stuck in the fold of your ear next to the ear canal (not the fold on the top of your ear; if you do that it'll just pop out again)-- and then *voila* it stays put.Matter o' fact, it'll stay put so well that it'll be a little bit difficult-- even *painful*-- to get out again.
I can imagine that people with different ear sizes, different patience levels, and lower IQs might have different experiences than my own.But all I can say is that once I had this little bugger figured out, I was golden.I love this thing and almost never talk on the phone without it.
Admittedly, it is a bit difficult to get into your ear-- I'd say it takes upward of 2 seconds to get in properly (before you're good and practiced at it), which may not sound like a lot, but it's long enough to not recognize somebody's voice or hear the first sentence they say, or whatever.A *very mild* frustration. But like all things good and pleasant, it takes a little practice to get it just right and now I have it so that I can answer the phone, slip the EarBoom in my ear and start a conversation without missing a beat.In fact, I find this earpiece to be so comfortable that I forget that it's in until I go to scratch my ear or something!

The other complaint that I saw on here was that it's not compatible with Nokia phones. In fact, it even says right on the package that it's not compatible with Nokia. That's funny, I have a Nokia 3589i and it works just fine. They make two other models of EarBoom (one of which clearly would not have worked with my phone), both of which claim to be Nokia compatible, and *neither* of those works with my phone!Confusing?Yes!The problem is it doesn't work with *all* Nokia phones. While browsing at the store I noticed that the ones that claimed to be Nokia compatible had a list of phones that it works with, but it didn't include mine (it included one that was, numerically speaking, very close to my model: the 3590); which piqued my curiosity. And so I went to the friendly manager of the store that I was in and he opened two of the different packages for me and let me test both of them. One of them worked, the other didn't.The strange part of it was that we couldn't see a visible difference in the two units...and then one of us noticed that on one of them the jack had two small black stripes around it (that's this one, and if you look closely at the picture you can see them), while the other one (the one marked as Nokia compatible) had three.Hmmm...Curious.
So my advice is to either know your phone well (as in, have the little book handy) or ask for help before purchasing.

All in all 4 of 5 stars.I'd give it 5 stars on performance and comfort, but have to take it down a notch for an extended period of getting used to it and for confusing packaging.

Addendum:
Several months later the little piece of foam has fallen from the end of the boom so that any sound from the wind becomes almost unbearably loud for the person at the other end...And living in windy Providence, this is a bit of an annoyance.
Also, for a while I was having a problem where the earpiece would cut out for seconds at a time so that I couldn't hear the person on the other end of the line (and, likewise, they couldn't hear me) unless I jiggled the little jack. This was *very *FRUSTRATING.**Now, for some reason, I'm not having that problem anymore.I'm not really sure if the problem was due to my phone or the EarBoom.Either way, it's something buyers should be aware of.

2-0 out of 5 stars Microphone is poor - skip it.
I liked the way the earpiece fit in my ear. Usually, earpieces fall out for me, but this one had a nice design.

However, my friends don't hear me when I use it. They describe it as sounding like "a bad cellphone connection - muffled."Because of that, I can't really use it.I hear my friends just fine, but they complain.

I then bought the Jabra EarWave Boom with Universal 2.5mm connector. It's a different design (wraps around the ear) and costs about twice as much as this one, but the sound is much better. My friends are happy.

Do yourself, but more importantly the people you call, a favor and skip this model. There's really no point if the sound is poor.

4-0 out of 5 stars decent sound quality, sensitive mic
So I bought this thing based on the Amazon reviews and saved a bundle over the local retail cost (yeah Amazon!), but that's not why I'm writing this review.

I'd like to talk about the performance and comfort of the Earboom. The eargel thingies are designed quite well, of the three different sizes for each ear you're bound to find one that fits very comfortably.Turns out I couldn't find any that fit my right ear comfortably for extended periods of use but found a perfect fit in my mate on the other side.My wife had the exact opposite experience - hopefully our daughter will inherit more symmetrical ears!I hate jogging so can't comment on the fit during that activity but can say the gels fit suprising well in the folds of your ear and the boom is quite secure when installed.I'd have to imagine it'd take a big hit to knock it loose once in place.

Sound quality from the earbud is decent, but I feel the Earboom lacks some fidelity, especially the higher frequencies.Normally this is not a problem, but it can sometimes make the person you're talking to sound like Isaac Hayes. The speaker is plently loud and the lack of high frequencies allows you to tune into the tonal range where us humans tend to converse, without having the voices washed over with background noise. The gels block an appropriate amount of external sounds allowing you to concentrate on the discussion at hand without impeding your ability to hear say an ambulance while driving. There is a small slot on the gels that funnels some external noise to your drum, while the rest of the gel fits snug to the ear blocking out other stray noise paths.

I've asked people how I sound and thus far the feedback has been positive, my voice comes through loud and clear despite the boom's apparent lack of length, reinforcing my belief that size DOESN'T matter. In fact, I have found the mic to be very sensitive to even small sounds.Forget talking on the phone and subtly typing on the keyboard our mouse click surfing - they'll hear every click.Another example, I was in my house and the person on the other end could hear the kids playing in the pool 40 feet away with the house windows closed!!Yes, the mic is that sensitive.Even while driving they could hear when I shifted gears. Not that it's obtrusive to the other person on the phone, it's just good to be aware they can hear it all.

What more to say about such a simple device. Form Fit and Function are all there and I would recommend this product. In fact, I just ordered another - it makes a great gift! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Had it one year and audio cuts out -- no help from Uniden!
I've had this expensive system for one year and it is currently not functional. The audio cuts out randomly -- you can sometimes hear very faintly, but usually, not at all.I changed batteries, but the problem is now worse. The "help" offered by Uniden was to use only THEIR batteries.SO now I can spend another $30 on more batteries and that doesn't guaruntee that the problem will be solved. Not bloody likely!Crap product, crap service!

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock solid, crystal clear, great features (READ MANUAL!)
This is a really good phone that's taken a lot of drops and keeps on ticking. It's solidly constructed, well-engineered, and built much better than the GE/Motorola disposable phones. Plus, it looks a heck of a lot better than the other phones. I've had this since it first came out, and there's been no problems despite the accidental drops or what have you of daily heavy usage. The built-in speakerphone on each handset continues to be a stunning feature. Also, the battery life is ridiculously long, and this makes up for the lack of a battery meter. Think of this phone as a Toyota and the others as GM. Which would you trust if they made your life support systems? Enough said. The only thing that could have been improved upon: -Expandability of handsets limited (not really a problem for most). -There is no instant synchronization of stored numbers from one phone to the other (something I miss about my old Sony phone). -As mentioned before, the only warning of a low battery is an audible alert/led msg (while you are using it) that the battery is low. From that point on, you only have about a minute or so of talk time left. Like anything in life, you get what you put into it. Read the manual. Learn what this phone allows you to do. Despite a previous poster's comments, this phone easily allows you to toggle on/off the 1- (by pressing *) and the area code (by pressing #) of your caller ID listings. It's in the manual, if the previous poster had actually bothered to read it before posting his mental spasms (a priceless moment). There is a newer model out (TRU8885-2) that addresses the few shortcomings of this phone and adds some cool new ones like a smaller and better base station, albeit imo it does not look as nice. -a NYer who can actually read

3-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
my fiance and I have both had uniden 900 megahertz for almost a decade. When we met, we both had the same phone and continued to use them for five more years! I loved uniden, so I was really excited when this new cool looking phone came out. we waited for the price to drop somewhat and finally bought it. Well, I'm not so impressed. the main thing is that it cuts out or breaks up when i'm in my office. Every phone conversation I have to walk into the living room b/c it gets somewhat better reception out there. it's worse than my cell phone by far. i don't really use the fancy features. answering machine works well, it's very modern looking, but i'm upset every time I have to move around the house to get good reception. I think there have to be better phones out there, esp for the $$$$.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good sound. Not so good features.
Pros - The sound is great. I like the speakerphone in the handset. i like setting ring tones for diff. numbers.

Cons - The ph# memory is only 10 digits or so. If you have a longer number (i.e. using a 10-10 xxx access code) you are stuck. You have to dial a 10+ digit number manually each time.

The caller ID has an error. Lets say someone phones you from 555-xxx. You can see the number but if you try to press talk to call back, the phone does not and cannot put a 1 in front. i.e. 1-555-xx. So you have to remember the number and then phone back manually.

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect phone!!
This phone has all the right features. It is very sharp looking and is just perfect. The sound and clarity is excellent. It has so many different ring tones which are fun! I was looking for a 5.8 GHZ (since that is the best out there right now) multi handsets, speaker phone and a digital answering system and I found it all in this Uniden!! I highly recommend it! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not ready for prime time.
When I first tried this speakerphone, I was in a quiet room. It worked great. I couldn't wait to try it in my car. The next day, in my car, it couldn't seem to understand my voice dialing commands. I finally tried dialing directly from the phone itself. I could hear the person on the other end fine, but she said she could barely hear me through all the static. Later I tried it with the car sitting still and the engine off. It worked ok then, but as soon as I started the car, it got drowned in static again. The same thing happened in my office where there are a couple of PCs running. The ambient noise made it impossible to use. Now neither my car nor the office are very loud places, but the minor ambient noise seems to be too much for this speakerphone to handle. And the static renders voice commands useless, as the phone cannot understand what you're saying through all the static. When I called the vendor for a return authorization, she told me they'd had several of these returned for the same reason, so I don't think mine was just a faulty device. There seems to be a serious design flaw here. I'm surprised at that, because my Jabra BT250 works perfectly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional.
What's most impressive about the Krusell's case for my RAZR is the outstanding quality. It is by far the best of all the cases that I've looked at prior to my purchase. You'll spend a bit more, but I'm a big fan of you get what you pay for. Don't waste your time with any others. The quality construction and materials make me feel like my phone is secure and safe on my side, which is especially important for the price of the V3.

5-0 out of 5 stars You don't have to use it Forever !!!
After a month or two, you can remove it...and lend it to someone else. The bulk of the telemarketers (as well as the Do Not Call exempts) will be gone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Makes a loud, annoying tone when used with acordless phone
I bought my TeleZapper for use with a new Motorola 2.4 GHz Digital cordless phone.Whenever I press the "ON"orthe "HANDS-FREE" buttons on the handset, the phone emits a loud and annoying beep. This makes it very difficult to hold the handset close to you ear when you make or take a phone call. When I disconnect the TeleZapper, this loud tone is not present.

Anyone else have this problem?

5-0 out of 5 stars This really works!
I must admit, I didn't expect it to, but it really does! My unsolicited calls *almost* disappeared. BTW, I do not have a problem with a "beep" noise when I pick up the phone -- it just sits there and does its thing. If only I had one for the spam in my email inbox...

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money!!!!!
Or use it elsewhere.I continued to get telemarketing calls after purchasing this item. The only thing that reduced the calls was the "DO NOT CALL" list.

4-0 out of 5 stars It works - sometimes too well.
Great device... it actually works.A ring still brings you to the telephone though and, upon answering, you do hear a beep (Note: you even hear the beep when you pick up the receiver to dial out); it's a little annoying, but worth missing all of those sales calls. When a computer calls your house, as I said, you still get the ring and when you answer you hear a beep but then... silence. At that point you know TeleZapper has done its job.How does it work "too well?"Unfortunately I've discovered that it zaps computer generated calls from my hospital which they use to remind out-patients of scheduled appointments. But it works so well at zapping sales calls that I will not disconnect it.Now, with the government's "do not call" registry, I still leave it plugged in and am rarely bothered by sales calls. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for!
These headphones were up and running in minutes with no messing. These headphones come with a usefull collection of bundled software including PerSono Audio Centre, L&H Voice Express 4, Roger Wilco, HearMe and Net2phone.
These headphones are great at doing what they are built for i.e. chatting whilst playing games, using voice recognition programs for hours on end in total comfort.
Although the sound is of an excellent quality under low to medium volumes they start to distort a lot if the sound is cranked up. If you are looking for a pair of headphones to blast out mp3 till your ears bleed then look elsewhere (sennheisser.com) If your after a set of headphones that letyou play games and chat without a loss of sound quality or that enable you to dictate for hours on end without realsing that you have a pair of headphones on your head then these headphones are for you.

Pro's: Lightweight, comfortable, well made, great sound quality and crisp, clear voice recording (my mates have noticed a big improvement in my voice clarity over Roger Wilco compared to when i used my LabTech headset (steer clear of LabTech, you get what you pay for i.e. 6 months of use until you loose sound in one side of your earphones.)

Con's: A little pricey, L&H Voice Express wouldn't work on XP Pro without downloading SAPI 4 from M$. I had to figure this out for myself as L&S don't seem to support VE4 anymore.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great USB solution
This is a great unit. Digital USB headphones offer a step up in performance and flexibility from ordinary headphones. There is precise capability to adjust volume, treble, base, etc. The control software also comes with preset countours for voice and for music.

The sound quality is awesome.

I highly recommend these headphones.

1-0 out of 5 stars Volume Range is Too Limited
I was excited to begin using my new ear-clip headset but quickly disappointed when I took my first call with it.I could barely hear the caller. So I turned the volume dial ALL THE WAY up and still could barely hear the caller.I'm not hard of hearing and have never had problems with other ear pieces or headsets. But the volume range is so limited that the only way you can hear the person on the other end of the line is to press the ear piece against your ear (which defeats the whole "hands-free" benefit) and shut yourself in a closet or other soundproof room and hold your breath while they speak, to eliminate all extraneous noises.Plus, the mute button is located on the same device as the volume control so it's easy to accidentally hit mute while adjusting the volume. This product was just unacceptable. The product was sold by a company called Dynadirect which then charged me a 15% restocking fee to return it!This is my first dissatisfactory experience purchasing on Amazon. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Compatible with 5.8GHz phones
This headset works great with my AT&T 5840 5.8GHz handset. It states on the packaging that it is compatible with 900MHz, 2.4GHz, and 5.8GHz analog/digital phones.I can hear clearly and can be heard very clearly. The only negative is there is no volume control, the headband does not adjust, and the microphone cannot adjust to come closer or go further away from your face. That said, this headset works very well and I haven't been able to find any other headsets that state they are compatible with 5.8GHz phones.

As for the KX-TCA60 that everyone raves about, I bought it first based on the reviews and price. However, the TCA60 did not work with my 5.8GHz phone and the packaging states that it is compatible with 900MHz and 2.4GHz analog/digital phones only. This information is not on Amazon.com.

So if you have a 5.8GHz phone I would stay away from the TCA60 and go with the TCA86.It's a great by and works very well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good but...
This is a very good headset for the money, but try the Panasonic model KX-TCA60 instead. It has noticeably better sound quality.(See my reviews there.)This model is a little bit more expensive, has a smaller microphone (which is nice), folds (which is convenient if you really need it) and is built a little more sturdily. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars sounds great, but the earclip has got to go
I am very surprised how well the microphone works without sounding distant or like a speakerphone.I've even tested it myself by calling a couple of my own different voice mail boxes and leaving messages. And no one on the other end during conversations has had any problem hearing me, or even seems to know that I am on anything other than a regualar handset.I use this headset with a Plantronics 900mhz wireless transmitter with handset lifter witha business phone system.Ironically, even the Plantronics rep advised against using one of the cell phone line of headsets with their office phone headset amplifiers, but didn't offer much reason why, maybe because they retail for $100 less. But I wanted something very small and simple to wear while I am on and off the phone at work.I will have to say the wirelss headset amp that I use does have different settings for both headset and microphone, so maybe I have it set just right to compensate for whatever difference there is between cordless phone and cell phone headsets , if there is any difference at all.All I know is that I havn't had to mess with the settings at all and it works excellent, no more trying to do a two handed job at work while holding a office phone handset in one hand or on my neck.As for the special ear hook design, I didn't like it.It's ok to wear for say less than 10 minutes, but any longer than that, and my ear would get sore from the inside and out, I guess because of the slight bit of pressure from the rubber ear hook. The hook also makes it a bit difficult to take in and out quickly with one hand when answering calls. But I liked the quality of the phone so much, I deciced to modify it.I ripped off the rubber ear hook, and ground the edge down smooth, so now I have a regualar earbud headset!Easy to take in and out and works excellent.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I have been using this headset for years. I even bought one for my wife and she loves it too. It is very comfurtable on the ear when driving. You leave it there and pull it down a bit when you get a call. I have tried dozens of headsets and this is the only one both my wife and I like.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comfortable, decent voice quality
I purchased this headset earlier this year to use primarily at home. The design is comfortable for an in-the-ear device, and it stays in place quite well. The speaker sound quality is very good, but the microphone leaves something to be desired. When I use it outside on the street, my friends often cannot hear my voice, and even in a quiet room, people complain that it can be difficult to hear.

All in all, a useful headset.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor voice quality, microphone
While I like the form factor of this device, it has poor voice pick-up.I have an LG VX6000 with voice dial.I cannot voice dial with this headset--the poor voice quality does not allow the phone to recognize my instructions.*In order for a person to hear me clearly, I have to bring the mic over so it's right next to my mouth.

Also, the earbud "bands" continue to pop off--very poor design. It's fairly comfortable as far as earbuds go, but it's a pretty low-quality device.Skip this and buy something better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best "teardrop" design I've seen
This is the best "teardrop" (small dangling microphone)low-profile designheadset I've seen. The only one that compares is the "Motorola Hands Free Silver Headset for all Motorola Headset Compatible Phones" which doesn't stay in as well, but has a better distance between the mic and the earphone. But the problem with both is that they break easily. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good little unit for the price
We've had this for a couple of months, and so far it's done exactly what it needs to do.Only two things about it are less than perfect: 1) it's hard to see the caller information in low light, and 2) if there are new calls, a little red light continues to blink until you clear them all out.Overall, though, it's doing exactly what we bought it to do, and is a good value for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great gadget....
Ineeded a caller ID Box for my kithen, since we have gone to a retro corded phone.I reviewed many ID Boxes and found this one at a local "one-stop-shop" store. One viewer said it did not work with DSL, It does. You just need a DSL filter that you can get at any "one-stop-shop" store. It works great so far, easy to set up, and easy to install. The hardest part I had was getting the back off for the batteries....

3-0 out of 5 stars No DSL
The unit does not work with DSL.It displays Caller ID information when you are on the line with another caller, but does not display any Caller ID information when you are not on the line.

When I called GE customer service about this problem, they informed me that the unit does not work with DSL.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice unit
This box is much better than the GE 29016S one I had previously. The return-call feature is nice, and this unit even has a stand underneath in case you need to view it at a higher angle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Batteries, what batteries?
Only when you read the very small print on the box do you find any mention of "batteries not included" and the battery size (3 "AA" bateries). It wasn't until I got home and opened the box that I realized it didn't include the batteries. The LCD display is a little tough to read depending on the room lighting. Otherwise, it seems to be a nice unit. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TELEZAPPER
Do not buy the TeleZapper. It has essentially been rendered obsolete. This is from an article on Yahoo! News that came out 2/26/03:

New Telemarketing Tool Trumps TeleZapper

NEW YORK - A telemarketing tool that penetrates home privacy defenses is upping the ante in a technology battle between sales callers and consumers seeking shelter from unsolicited calls.

Castel Inc., a maker of automated dialing technology, boasts that its DirectQuest software is immune to the TeleZapper, a ... gadget designed to thwart sales calls by faking the tones of a disconnected number.

Beverly, Mass.-based Castel has been mailing brochures to telemarketers and other prospective customers touting the software, which also includes a feature that lets salesmen transmit any phone number or text message to residents' caller ID displays.

That second component allows DirectQuest to dodge such phone company privacy services as SBC's Privacy Manager and Sprint's Privacy ID, both of which reject calls that don't provide caller ID information.

Castel's software is built for the high-volume "predictive dialers" that use multiple lines to phone residential numbers and connect salesmen to people who answer.

"It's a privacy arms race," said Robert Bulmash of the privacy group Private Citizen, based in Naperville, Ill. "The industry is crowing that 'We don't want to call people that don't want to be called,' and at the same time it's calling them."

Consumer privacy devices will increasingly lose effectiveness as telemarketing firms switch to the new dialing technology - which costs roughly $2,700 per calling operator, said Bulmash.

Royal Electronics Inc., which manufactures the TeleZapper, says millions of them have been sold. The device is designed to trick predictive dialers into dropping the call by playing the three shrill tones of a disconnected number.

The privacy services sold by phone companies target another weakness of the predictive dialer - their inability to transmit caller ID.

Castel chief executive Geoff Burr labels as "unsophisticated" dialers that succumb to privacy devices. "Serious professional operations don't use that equipment - or they won't be for long," he said.

Burr said DirectQuest is not aimed at bothering consumers, but the opposite - making sales calls less intrusive. By providing the identity of the company on behalf of which the telemarketer is calling, DirectQuest gives people the option not to take the call.

The software also helps elemarketers mind federal guidelines that require accurate and descriptive caller IDs, said Burr.

"If you're an operator that calls on behalf of MasterCard, you're supposed to put out 'MasterCard' and a number that gets to MasterCard," he said.

Instead of listening for sounds that identify the status of a phone line, DirectQuest learns the line's condition by reading signals from phone company computers, said Walter Elicker, Castel's marketing director.

Elicker said privacy gadgets don't just thwart telemarketers but also bill collectors who use predictive dialers. "Collections people want to make damn certain they're not fooled by these kinds of devices," he said.

A more effective means of blocking sales calls lies with the emerging federal Do Not Call list as well as similar lists kept by some two dozen U.S. states, Burr said.

The Federal Trade Commission has said its Do Not Call list will begin collecting names this summer and be in operation by the fall. Telemarketers who phone listed numbers can be fined up to $11,000 for each violation.

Effectiveness of Do Not Call lists, at least for now, is a pipe dream, Bulmash said. The FTC doesn't regulate telemarketing-heavy industries like long-distance phone companies, banks, airlines and insurance companies.

State lists, too, often make exemptions for funeral homes and car dealers. No agency can prevent phone calls by political campaigns, charities and surveyors.

Predictive dialers fueled huge growth in the telemarketing.

A Federal Communications Commission (news - web sites) memo says telemarketers attempt 104 million calls a day to U.S. businesses and consumers. Sales revenue rose from about $435 billion in 1990 to around $660 billion in 2001.

Telemarketing advocates fear Do Not Call lists could devastate those revenues and the jobs that depend on them.

An article in the February issue of Customer Inter@ction Solutions, a telemarketing industry magazine, said FTC restrictions could eliminate three million jobs.

The article estimated that the top 75 U.S. telemarketing firms paid for 13.2 billion minutes of long-distance phone service last year. At 4 cents a minute, that amounts to $528 million in telecommunications revenue.

4-0 out of 5 stars It works for us
We've had the Zapper for many months. Before it was installed we got several calls a day/evening. The number of calls is down dramatically. Now, the phone will ring and when you pick it up all you hear is the line going dead and a dial tone. Hot damn - zapped another one! It's such a good feeling. But, it won't stop direct dial solicitors, and the beep can be disconcerting to those unfamiliar with the device. Still, we are ever so pleased to have made the investment. The dividends are reaped every night.

2-0 out of 5 stars Helps, but could be better
This model helped cut down on marketing calls quite a bit, but I still get at least one per night. The new model is a lot better, but I'm not going to buy that one. The state where I live, MN, just got a do not call list, which I think will work better than the Telezapper, old or new.
