5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone, one small issue
This phone is great with one exception. 2.4 Ghz phones interfer with most wireless computer networks. Currently I have a 900Mhz Uniden Spread Spectrum that doesn't kick me off of my computer network. When I use this phone, I get booted. That's really the only issue I have, but that would be an issue with any 2.4 Ghz phone.

As far as the phone goes, it has the features I was looking for. I frequently get called in the middle of the night, so I wanted a phone that stood on-end and had the keys light up when it rang so I could see it in the dark. I also wanted caller I.D. on the handset, a good dialing memory, something small to fit on my nightstand, and an external headphone jack. Now you'd think that with those requirements finding a phone would be easy. Ha! This was the ONLY phone I could find that met those requirements. It has satisfied all of them quite nicely. Also, my other phone is a Uniden and I've been using it for 6 years and love it (I had to replace the battery once). In the past I've had problems with AT&T phones and Panasonic ones. When I purchased this phone, my girlfriend was looking to buy one too. In the end, she tried and returned multiple ones and ended up getting this one with the answering machine. All this happened without either of us knowing what phone the other one purchased. She's very happy with her phone too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
I have had this phone for years with no problems at all. Love it 100%. The handset is very comfortable and easy to use. I recently bought a second one and wish I had bought a third one. Unfortunately Uniden no longer makes these phones. Uniden made a big mistake by stopping production. I have not found another phone by any manufacturer like this one, not even Uniden's new phones. These phones have batteries that require that they be returned to the base regulary, not necessarily after every call, but DO NOT leave it off until the battery goes dead. If you do the battery will not last very long. Most problems can probably be linked to this issue.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Good
Had the phone for a little over 1 year and the unit just stopped working. Was a good phone until then, just cannot believe the short life it had. The unit does not get a dial tone and talk keeps flashing on the LED. Tried their online support and they had me do this and that stating it would correct the issue; however, it still remains broken. This is the only phone I have had that only lasted a little over a year. I suggest you buy a different brand phone that will last longer than this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of good money.
I owned this phone for a whole 7 MONTHS before it just quit working for no apparent reason.Up to that point, I was very happy with it.I have been a fairly consitent Uniden customer, but this phone wasted my money.

2-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS PHONE
It seems to be a great phone but after a year the keypad stops working and you cant dial anyones number. I am not the only one who has had this problem and if you read other reviews you will see many people with the same problem. DONT BUY THIS PHONE. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This phone sucks!!
I live in a loft across from train and commuter train tracks in a semi-industrial area. The phone has worse range than the 900 I had -- about 20 feet from my door. I have an outdoor entrance. The reception also sucks. Don't buy it. I should have tested it more thoroughly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor Range
This phone has a great answer machine on it and the voice quality is superb, but the range is terrible. It may be good for an apartment or a condo, but I couldn't walk through my house without it breaking up, and my house isn't that big. And the instant I walked out the door it broke up, only forty feet from the base! I was disappointed. My recommendation after trying many phones is the 5.8 Ghz AT&Tor the V-Tech version of the same phone. I know they transmit 2.4Ghz back to the base but I tested it, there is no interference on either end from micowave ovens or wireless B connections. If you live in a house I would not recommend this phone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but needs improvement
I was rather disappointed with this phone for the following reasons:The buttons on the keypad are way too small.I had to use the very tip of my fingers to dial numbers.
It doesn't wall mount - although this may not bother others.
When using the phone, the sound I heard was wonderful, and the range very good - BUT several people that I spoke with complained that my voice sounded 'tinny' and distant. The last complaint\issue is one I have had with all of my cordless phones - there is no backup power for the base unit.Everytime there is a power outage, the time and date have to be reset.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great feature set,Poor Talk Quality and Range
The phone has received high marks from several sources, which is why I bought it.It has terrible range! It clips the voice into pieces which is very hard to understand.I have a brick house which I would consider of average to small size.I cannot go into my basement with it nor into my back yard.I only wish I had spent more time testing it within the 30 day return period.I will be replacing the phone soon.IF THERE is anything you get out of this review, it is to make sure you have the time to put ANY cordless phone through its paces during the store return period.

Also something that is annoying is you cant make a call from another area code from the caller-id list without hitting the * key so that the phone will append a 1 in front of the phone number.I have called customer support and that is the way it is designed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great little phone
The price is a bit high for what you get, but it's one of the few options that won't interfere with a WiFi network.Reception, voice quality, and answering machine quality are all good.I was also surprised by how well the speakerphone worked, both on the base as well as the handset.

Only a couple of things prevent me from rating this with 5 stars.First, Caller ID is only displayed on the handset.Second, I wish there was a real battery gauge rather than just a low battery warning.

In all, you won't be disappointed with this machine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It was good for me
I have had this phone for about 3 years. It's been great. Considering that last year I threw it against my wall and smashed it into three pieces, when I put it back together it still worked fine. Now, it is starting to give me problems with the battery life, but if you'd been broken in three pieces, would you charge properly? I don't live in a high voltage area, so it picks up just fine. I can say this, it's definately not fragile!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for shorter duration of time
As stated by <>,I faced the "same problem" just after the 1 year Warranty period expired :(
The phone has decent functionality and one would think that a GE product would be reliable, but we've been frustrated by the buttons on the handset, which quickly became unreliable. One has to mash on the "3" button repeatedly to get it to register, and the "redial" button is useless. This is not a matter of wear and tear because we hardly ever used the redial button.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice looking phone - too bad it doesn't work!
Three months after we bought this phone we started having troubles. The phone would ring and we'd pick it up and hit the "talk" button. However, the phone would just beep - unable to locate the right the channel to begin the call.So we reread the manual and learned to hit the channel button after using the talk button, but to no avail.By the time we pressed the different buttons, the caller would be leaving a message and we couldn't even talk to them!Happens two out of every three incoming calls! We're looking for a new phone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Also had trouble with keypad
Sturdy, pleasant-looking phone that functioned well for more than a year -- however, now, the "Talk" button no longer works, and some of the number keys are also difficult, sometimes registering a number twice, or not at all. If they would have fixed this flaw - seems to be widespread after reading other reviews - it would be a fine phone. Good timing on GE's behalf - phone goes downhill just as the warranty expires.

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
Yes, it may be cheap, but we have all heard the saying "You get what you pay for!"This phone worked well for a few months, but went downhill fast. Now, I never had an issue with clarity within the house, but once I steped outside it got fuzzy.(I cannot walk to my mailbox, which is not that far from my front door.)Anyway, the "3" button was the first to go.It got to the point that when you pressed the button it would not register at first, so you would press harder, which ultimately would make it register not only once, but three or four times! This became really frustrating, but I could deal with it until I found a better phone.Eventually though the "TALK" button started malfunctioning, which basically made my phone a giant paperweight. When you can't turn the phone on, it usually means you need to buy a new one!Anyway, I recently replaced the phone with a nice Panasonic 2.4 GHz/Fax combo, which works wonderfully.I also purchased a Uniden headset phone, which is also 2.4 GHz, and that was the best phone purchase of all and it was under $80. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Unable to roam
I presently own a 900DSS and a 2.4DSS which allow me to walk to my mailbox and around the garden (several hundred yards). I figured the 5.8DSS would give me even more range. Not so! I can go about 80ft, from my workshop to my back door, before losing the signal. I located and returned the unit to the manufacturer and received a replacement - which performed no better. It's an attractive phone, has good features and clarity - but not range, which is important to me.

2-0 out of 5 stars not horrible, but going back
This phone has a much better range than my crappy old 900MHz phone, and I can walk all through the house, and around it and still get good reception.

However, the sound quality is poor, with lots of quiet but disturbing background static. I have also experienced this in the only other "digital" phone I've owned, so I suspect a problem in the conversion from analog to digital and back.

I also noticed some of the fade-in/fade-out effect while listening to some nice hold music, and some pops and clicks.

The phone has a headset jack, but my standard 2.5mm headset doesn't work with it. My headset works with my two other cordless phones, so either there's a problem with this particular phone, or it takes a special proprietary plug.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good phone, especially for the price.
I bought this phone to replace my old RadioShack 900MHz phone (i will never buy another phone from radioshack again! all three different models that I have owned broke with in 1 year). It looks cool and has caller id, but I really got it because it sues the 5.8GHz range because I have read that 900MHz can receive a lot of interference and I already know that my wireless router and microwave would interfere with anything I had in the 2.4GHz range. (That microwave cuts out my internet all the time!) Here I will get to the point(s).

    Pros:
    -Looks cool
-Good range, despite other reviews, I have been able to talk on the phone while I get my mail at the bottom of my dirveway which is about 400ft from the house, none of my other phones can do that.
    -Easy to connect headset jack
    -Caller ID

    Cons:
    -The battery isn't the best.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Time
This is the worst phone I have ever owned (and unfortunately I bought three of them to replace my aging 900mhz...and Best Buy won't take them back because I threw the boxes away).

The phone aesthetics are great...but walk a mere 12-15 away from the base and the voices cut out and static is terrible. I also have no electrical outlets competing with the phones and with three of them place at different points in the house...it isn't like it is just one of the three that is the culprit.

What an expensive mistake this was.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy This One
I recently decided to update our home phones to make them all Caller ID capable. The GE 5.8 GHz cordless phone seemed like a good mix of latest technology and reasonable price, and I liked the digital spread spectrum feature, associating it with both privacy and clarity. Was I in for a big disappointment.

Initially, I was not able to identify any problems while making short calls.Later, I made a longer call and started noticing serious problems with sound quality.Reception frequently cut out briefly or seemed to be masked by static, even outside the presence of sources of interference (I eventually moved next to the base in my bedroom, which is isolated from other electrical appliances).During the same call, I switched to another phone of the same type and had continuing problems with it, so I can't blame the problems on the quality of a single phone. After I completed my call, I could hear the cutting out plainly while listening to the dial tone (yeah, not very exciting, but it proved the point).

I'll admit that the phones are stylish. In fact, my kids didn't want me to return them, because they thought they were cool. However, looks and features don't count for much if the phones sound like crap, which they do. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Hard to hear...
I do not like this phone. The option selections are not very intuitive. The volume on the headset seems to go down every time you hang up the phone. The next time you answer you have to turn it back up to hear the caller.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Product!
This phone is a really(!) good concept. The base unit is the only part which needs to be near a jack.Any of the (up to 4) handsets, then, only need to have their charging stands near an electrical outlet. This makes the system excellent for older homes and apartments with a limited number of telephone jacks, which often are in out-of-the-way places.

The phone has an amazing range, and works quite well in my 2-level home, even though there is much structural steel in the walls. After 2-months of use, I have yet to have a bad/static-y connection.

My only(!) negative comment is with the Caller-ID redial "feature".I live in CA, where 1+dialing is a requirement when using area codes. There is no way to set the area code in the phone system (according to customer service), as the phone automatically senses the area code. However, the phone doesn't automatically strip out the area code for local calls, nor append "1" to the beginning of the dialing string for out of area calls. This is maddening! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
It works great for me. The design is nice. Reception is very good anywhere in my house. Never had any problem with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars do not buy this phone
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE. Its a complete piece of junk. seriously. we've had it for less than a year, and the display has stopped working almost entirely (only the bottom part of the letters display), it has alot of static, battery doesnt last long, and functions not easy to use.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wimpy
Phone still works...except the LCD, can't use it when the microwaves on...always searching for a new channel so sometimes it just drops you off...last time I buy this make of phone!

1-0 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy this phone
This phone is also sold under the brand of BELL SOUTH. Both models are identical. Avoid them. The display (the caller id was the reason I bought the phone) goes out after a while, rendering the phone a waste of money.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is a pitiful phone
I bought this phone thinking it would be a good phone. Unfortunately, I was very mistaken. The reception is terrible. And, not to mention I only dropped the phone on the floor once and the LCD screen pixels are almost totally gone. I can only read a few of the pixels that are left. The problem is that I can not make out an actual word out of the whole screen. This is a horrible phone. Stay away from this phone. Sorry Phonemate. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible, Terrible phone!!
We have had this phone for about a year. After about 3 - 6 months, the display on one of the handsets started to fade. Now it's totally gone. The display on the other handset is now 3/4 gone.We have also experienced the sporadic beeping while the phone is in use.We thought that this brand name would be one of the better ones.Boy were we wrong! This was such a waste of money, too bad we've had it so long.Otherwise, we'd try and get our money back.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked Great for a while then look out phone turns on you!!
I had purchased this phone system like others because the price was such a good value so I thought. It was not long before the caller ID display started fading then completely went out on both handsets. Then theirs that problem with the talk buttons on both handsets sometimes they work sometimes they don't. This phone system is a waste of your money. Please Don't buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars My Display Went Out Too...
On both handsets. Now my caller ID is useless. Looks like I'm not the only one with this problem.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good for a while, then blank!
These phones were great for us, sound ok, but now after about 2 years, two of the three screens are out.I have not tried to put in a new battery because the phone still works, and they cost about 29.00 bucks.I am disappointed in the quality as well as so much of the electronics out there these days. The old phones still work great, but too bad they are not cordless.

1-0 out of 5 stars keep looking
I have had the same problem everyone else has had with these phones display is fading and line problems. I made the mistake of buying two more additional handsets they do not have problems yet but Im sure it is just a matter of time. My advice is keep looking do not buy this phone! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Solid Proof of Concept
Being one of the first Wi-Fi VoIP (SIP) phones on the market, ZyXEL Prestige 2000W is a solid proof of concept that is deemed by many to see explosive growth. With this unit, ZyXEL seems to be targeting two markets - a cordless phone for corporate SIP environments and residential broadband VoIP services (like Vonage). The unit gets 3 stars for actually working in one deployment scenario, but lacking many required features.

We have received several units from ZyXEL in October to investigate a deployment scenario with Asterisk PBX as a SIP server. The phone picked up a signal of our internal 802.11b/g wireless network with no problems. However, the initial attempt to register with Asterisk server was unsuccessful. Upgrading firmware to version 'f' solved the registration problem and now we could successfully move on to evalute phone's functionality.

Positive impressions:
1. Reception of Wi-Fi signal is good and is on par with other wireless devices (we compared to notebooks with WiFi cards).
2. Sound quality is very good and is comparable to your average cellphone.
3. Battery life is decent and will handle several hours of talktime. Standby mode is not as effective as with your modern cellphone, therefore the phone has to be charged every night.
4. Unit is fairly compact and lightweight (about the size of an older Nokia cellphone).

Unfortunateluly, this is where the positive impressions end. To give ZyXEL some credit, core technology seems be in good shape and the unit lacks any serious drawbacks. However, many important features one would expect in a cordless communication device are underimplemented or not implemented at all:
1. Phone looks and feels old, like one of the cellphones from the 90's. Screen is tiny and only has four lines.
2. Handsfree - both speakerphone and headset ports exist, but are not functional.
3. Battery compartment is very hard to open. Not that one should have to take out the battery that often, but this is the only way to reboot the phone when it occasionally locks up.
4. Only one incoming line is implemented.
5. Phone registers to a SIP server only upon bootup. Therefore, if the connection to the server is lost during normal operation, the phone will have to be rebooted.
6. Hold, transfer, and conference buttons are not implemented. As is the MWI (Message Waiting Indicator).
7. Wireless security is underimplemented. On paper, WEP up to 128 bits is possible, in reality that means you will have to punch in the keys manually (use the web interface for that) and quality of sound will deteriorate. WEP keys are easy to break anyways, so that leaves you with MAC Address filtering - wait, that's easy to spoof also. So do not bother yourself with security on this phone.
8. You have to know your SSID to access the wireless AP. No autodiscovery and no ability to store several SSIDs and to connect to whichever one is found first.
9. The lists for missed and dialed calls exist, but are out of order (at least chronological one). Plus, no details are offered.
10. Ringtones are godawful and cannot be changed.

In summary:
1. Corporate clients will be turned off by the lack of multiple lines, transfer and hold functionality, and lack of security.
2. Service providers, like Vonage, seem to prefer analog adapters to end devices that talk native VoIP protocols. In the case of Vonage, one may be able use Prestige 2000W on their network using credentials issued for the SoftPhone service. But given the extra charge for the service as well as the premium price of Prestige 2000W itself, the economics are against such scenario. It is much more economical for residential customer to purchase an analog or digital cordless phone in 900Mhz or 5.8Ghz spectrum and use it through VoIP provider's telephone adapter.

Unless you have an extra $250 laying around and like your technology raw, patience will be rewarded. New and improved WiFi SIP Phones are starting to show up. For example, Hitachi Cable's IP-5000 looks more modern and supports advanced security features like WPA and EAP-TLS (there are reports, however, of poor firmware design and incompatibility). Cisco 7920 seems to be dominant in the large corporate sector and may capture small and medium-business markets if they finally release SIP firmware and work on lowering the $500+ price-tag.
Motorola is releasing a CN620, which as a hybrid GSM/WiFi SIP phone for the corporate market.

There is a lot of development in this area and kudos to ZyXEL for braving the turbulent waters. Hopefully, they can improve on hardware design, add more firmware features and turn the ugly duckling that Prestige 2000W is into a beatiful swan.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product if you select the right service
4 stars for having an ugly design and a high price but no alternative (as of know). I have no opinion on battery life. I shall see.

I ordered the product from Amazon yesterday with Ground UPS, and received it today. There goes an applause to Amazon!

About the product: It is very simple, but seems to serve the purpose: send and receive calls. the sound quality is excellent. entering the information to access the service provider took approximately one minute. After you have a connection between the phone and the router, you then need to enter the rest of the information by accessing the phone's settings from your computer's browser.

I live in a Manhattan apartment building where I share a wireless connection. The router is located on the 6th floor. I live on the 8th floor. The quality is not exactly the same as using the phone next to the wifi router, but still acceptable. I will solve that problem by adding a signal booster to the router.

I signed up with BroadVoice, which only offers SIP based VOIP services. This phone only works on SIP based systems. Major VOIP providers provide SIP as an additional service that costs you more over your regular VOIP service fee, and comes with limited minutes. There are many other companies that are out there offering SIP, just google "sip providers" and you will find a lot.

I could use a free software phone to access these servers, but I really appreaciated talking on a real phone and hear the difference in quality of sound, instead of having to wear a headset and stare at the computer screen. Believe me, it makes a way lot of difference.

I'm originally from Turkey, currently living in the US. It costs me to call Turkey around 45 cents a minute from my cell. These services cost you from 10 cents to 20 cents, depending on whether you call a landline or a cell number. Although the phone is pricey, I will be saving a lot in a few months by lowering my cellphone plan and using the 2000W for national and international calls. I still get call waiting, rejecting a blocked number, voice mail and so forth. I was even able to get a (212) area code number, which has become a rarity. I will pay about $21 for calling unlimited national and 21 international countries (no Turkey is not one of them, useless for now, but you never know).

Initial charge to signup with the service cost $32.04 including that $21.00. So there is no reason to complain, even the service fails once in a while (not yet happened). Let me be ridiculous and assume that I call turkey 20 hours a month. It would cost me $540 with cell carrier, and $120 with this one.

If you ask, why didn't you go for one of the major VOIP providers, my answer will be, I do not want to see any more bulky devices on the floor. Also, I would be required to install a converter in order to be able to use a regular phone. In addition to all of these issues, I would have to buy a high end cordless phone to have a clear sound upstairs. At the end the cost would be much higher.

I think this product is really good for a starter. I am pretty sure that many others will enter the market in the near future, as Vonage is planning on releasing their own wifi phones.

I can also take this phone with me whereever there is a wireless hotspot available. The only problem is that some places such as Starbucks use TMobile hotspot, which requires you to download a piece of software that connects you to their network. In that circumstance I do not think that this phone will be usable. But, since there are a lot of people who do not secure their wifi connections, I am sure you will find a place in your area to enjoy this phone and call your friends and family as if you are calling them from your cellphone.

3-0 out of 5 stars This is real phone
Forthose who may be confused about Voice over IP services, this is real phone that can dial and receive calls with any other real phone in the Word unlike PC to PC voice connections that can only be placed between PC clients. And as for any VoIP connection, it requires service provider to provide connection with phone networks. Vonagesoft phone plan cost about $12 per month with free local calls and cheap international calls, and for that price you get full phone service just like you would get from cell phone or land line company. And the best part - you can use the same service (and the same number) from any wireless internet Access Point in the world. Imagine that you live in NY and can make and receive the same free unlimited local calls with your NY number while traveling to London, Paris or Beijing from any Wi-Fi internet connection.
That is the theory anyway, in reality customization of the pone and understanding of IP networking may be required to set up the phone for different locations.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT free phone service
Originally I thought this was a phone that would let me use VoIP technology to make free phone calls to anywhere in the world.Wrong! As the italic fineprint on Amazon points out, you must subscribe to a VoIP service plan (e.g., Vonage). These plans are usually quite expensive, and have restrictions as well.Plus the phone itself is so expensive. If you are looking for a free VoIP solution, this is absolutely NOT it.

For now, I guess you should stick to a PC VoIP program like Skype or MSN Messenger. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Phone
Reception is acceptable.Caller ID window is very small and the text font in it is incredibly small. After four months the speaker starting going in and out during every call.Sometimes the speaker would go out for a couple minutes at a time. Now I'm back buying another phone, not GE this time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
We have had this crappy phone for one year. and its like we had it for 6 years. it won't dial the correct number, it makes loud funny noises, you have to press the key pad very hard to dial, and it doesn't last as long off charge like they say...

I am very happy with my purchase. The best part about the phone is the headset. The quality of the headset is very good.I also like the message-waiting feature. The phone will blink when you have a new message on your voicemail. I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Phone
About six weeks ago I purchased this phone to replace one that was probably 15 years old. I paid $9.99 for it at Big Lots and have been satisfied with it so far, but for ten bucks how can you go wrong. It sounds good and is nice and clear. So far I have no complaints.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Phone for the Money!
I recently bought the GE 900 MHz phone for like $15 bucks. I mean for a 15 dollar phone you really can't go wrong.. This phone has a 10 number storage feature and a on/off button on the phone for the ringer. Overall this phone is pretty nice but I think GE needs to do some adjusting with the sound. When you talk on this phone you can't hear what the people are saying hardly. But other than that the phone is awesome.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cool looking, can't set time, lousy quality
Okay...i'll admit I was sold by the translucent tangerine faceplate and the blinky lights. I was also sold by the fact that I could actually turn off the ringer (somthing not found in most of the cheap models). The price is right...it's cheap and "disposable". So...it does the job and earns some stars.

What the phone doesn't do is why I it only gets 2 stars.Sure, you can set up options and language, BUT YOU CANNOT SET THE TIME!!!Stupid. Waiting for a callerID call to set the time by is just silliness that is NOT explained in the manual.Duh.

The sound quality is tin-box and the range is sub-standard.I WOULD NOT PURCHASE THIS PHONE IF YOU HAVE A WI-FI BASE STATION. Seriously...i could hear the "tick-tick-tick" background noise of my router over this phone. They are on the same frequency and simply do not play well together.

Oh well....it's good enouh to throw in my garage and use as a spare just in case.

1-0 out of 5 stars One of the Most crapy phone in Amazon
I hate this piece of crap. I dont call it as a phone. Its looks like toy. Never ever buy this phone. Voice quality is so bad that u cannot listen to other side voice. It will give all kind of noise and low voice. If u increase the volume it will cry like a hell but will not increase volume. I am going to throw this phone to trash.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap and annoying
The phone feels cheap, probably because it is. It looks pretty ugly, and, unless you're looking for something kitschy or you're a 12-year-old girl, the flashing LED lights don't help. I was unable to adjust the volume on the the handset, even when I followed the procedures in the manual. Pressing the volume +/- buttons just caused the handset to beep LOUDLY in your ear but failed to produce any discernable difference in the volume. Long story short, don't buy this. There must be something better, even at the low price.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money!!
I purchased this phone recently and would not recommend it unless you like to see the "dancing" light display. Make sure that you have another phone close by to actually answer the phone because this phone is not usable. The volume is too low and if you adjust it upwards there is a terrible feedback noise. It is simply not worth your time or money!

3-0 out of 5 stars "Caveat Emptor," whined the phone.
This phone's best feature is its price. If cost is your primary concern, this phone is for you. I mean, it's an acceptable phone. Everything works. Just barely, though.

Feels cheap: Not surprisingly so, but it may leave you feeling that maybe you should have spent more money on something a little more substantial and longer-lasting. The handset feels too light and flimsy in your hand.

Voice quality is so-so at best: The sound is tinny, with the occasional feedback squeal. This is not the phone for long conversations.

A lot of annoying little details: The ringer volume can't be adjusted. Each incoming call gets Caller ID'd and sets off a blinking red light at the base of the handset antenna. The instruction manual is anemic. (e.g. the user is left on their own to figure out that it automatically sets its internal clock when it gets its first Caller ID-able call) The interface is quirky, requiring you to use the "*" and "#" keys to page through its Caller ID log.

Not a bad phone for the money, but sadly, this is the 2.4GHz equivalent of those cheap 99-cent disposable lighters you see at the corner market store. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I've Ever Wanted in a Cordless Phone
I have no technical aptitude and no patiencereading instructional manuals. Nevertheless, I was able to set up this phone. What's more, it's sturdy (I've had it for six months or so with no problems), attractive (in a form follows function sort of way) and gets clear sound from every room of my spacious (by New York City standards) one-bedroom apartment.

1-0 out of 5 stars too many problems
I bought my SW Bell FF908 about two years ago.Afterowning it for 10 months it failed for no apparentreason.I sent it to Conair (the manufacturer)for waranty repair. They sent it back with a freshbattery but still nonfunctional.(I guess they don't read the problem description if the battery is old). After I returned it again they sent me a replacement phone that worked fairly well for a year.

When the battery wore out recently I looked in every storein town that carries cordless phone batteries butcouldn't find a compatable battery so I ordereda replacement battery from Conair.I unquestionably gave them the correct model number for the phone but they sent the wrong battery. When I called to request the correct battery, their computers were down and they told me to call back another day.I called back a couple days later and finally got them to send the correctbattery. Now that I have a working battery again I have discovered that the phone doesn't dial correctly. Most of the time I get silence or a "wrong number" recording when I use the FF908 to dial. The keys must be worn out.

I suggest trying another brand if you are looking for an inexpensive cordless phone that will last (butnot GE/Thomson: their low-end 900Mhz phone has awfulaudio quality and range)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent cordless phone
We have used this phone nearly 1 year. The reception is always clear, indoors and out. Talk time is surprisingly long, my teenager talks literally for hours without recharging. It is a great value, simple toprogram and use. The handset takes lots of physical abuse without crackingor malfunctioning. Highly recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Static on line
I purchased the white version of this phone when it was on sale for $15.00 at amazon.com and the reviews were good.Unfortunately the phone has static on it when in use.Changing the channel or anything else doesn'thelp.I guess I'll have to send it back because it is basically unusable. None of the other reviews had mentioned this problem, so maybe it is amanufacturing defect rather than a design problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars best cordless phone i have ever used!
this is a really simple phone.you can store memory numbers and it has lots of other buttons.it's really easy to set up because it has step-by-step instructions.after you dial the number it has a little pause, but that's because it's looking for the clearest channel for yourconversation.i haven't used it for very long, a few days maybe, but thereception isn't the clearest i have ever heard, but the good thing aboutthat is that you can manually change reception channels to find the bestone yourself.you can page people with it, too.my other cordless phone(before it broke) was never clear, and i had to recharge it every fiveminutes.this is a big change, and i'm glad i got it.i really reallyreally recommend it! ...
