Amazon.com Product Description

The P5085 telephone recorder from P3 International lets you record telephone conversations through both single-line and multi-line telephones. Ideal for use in interviews or for recording directions and other important information, the P5085 is able to record over eight hours of conversation using a standard 120-minute cassette. The recorder hooks up to any available RJ-11 phone jack and has a built-in speaker that lets you listen to recorded material.

Two tape speeds (4.8 cm/sec and 1.2 cm/sec) are available, while voice activated recording helps to conserve tape space. An automatic level controller helps compensate for bad connections, and power and level LEDs provide a visual indication of the recorders inputs. With manual record, play, rewind, fast-forward, stop/eject, and pause buttons, you can record, audition, and cue the tape. Four AAA batteries provide the recorder's power source. The P5085 comes backed with a six-month limited warranty.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never worked properly
As stated by another reviewer, the device turns itself off after recording for a few seconds.E-mail to the company resulted in explaining the same info in the manual i.e., how to plug in, switch settings, etc.Concludes that if that doesn't work, it must be the drive belt.I fastened the Play-Record buttons down with rubber bands, and although it tries to turn itself off (clicking away), I have managed to record conversations.Sometimes I find it taping when nothing is going on.Too much of a hassle to send back, I guess I'll keep it while I look for a more reliable machine.

2-0 out of 5 stars P3 International Telephone recorder
It seems like it has the right idea, but the adapter for the telephone jack in the wall didn't work, and the recorder shuts off after about 90 seconds, (you can't record calls longer then 90 seconds without manually restarting the machine).Overall, it's been a hassle so far, and I'm not happy with it.I'm hoping this is only specific to the machine I got, and am hoping the company I got it from will exchange it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Purchase
I purchased the VTech i5820 phone system along with 4 additional handsets (i5801)..They worked fine in the beginning..Then one of the batteries failed.A quick call to VTech customer service for a new one.Not the case.I was informed by VTech customer service that these models are no longer made..and they DO NOT have any batteries or accessories available for them.Trying to find OEM replacement batteries is almost impossible. The usual stores.. Best Buy, Staples, Office Max, Circuit City, Target no longer stock these modes.VTech's solution was for me to "upgrade" to another one of their phone systems...Of course.."At a BIG discount because I am an existing customer"!I loved the phones in the beginning.... and still do..Put purchasing replacement parts will be impossible.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this phone if you have a wireless network
As some have mentioned in this review section., this is not a true 5.8 phone.I have a G-wireless network set up and use vonage as phone service. The calls I make from this always break up and I thought it was Vonage.I used a corded phone and the sound quality of my call was impeccable.I bought this phone because I thought it was true 5.8 and wouldn't interfere with wireless, boy was I wrong.

DON'T BUY THIS PHONE IF YOU HAVE A WIRELESS NETWORK.

however, the speakerphone on the handset and the console are superb, extremely loud.I think this could be a great phone if you don't have a wireless network.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked great when it would charge
This phone system worked great for our house -- in conjunction with our wireless network as well -- for a little while. After about 4 months of use, whenever the phones were put onto the charging cradles, they would charge for a few seconds, but then the charging light would go out and the phones stopped charging. When this first started happening, I only had to adjust the position of the phone or clean the connections -- annoying but it worked for a little while. Now, nothing works and we can't get the phones to charge consistently. We're trashing these phones and now looking for new ones.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone, but NOT 5.8 GHz
This is a very good phone. In nearly a year I have not experienced one thing negative. Sure, you pratically have to have a PHd in EE if you want to delve into anything but the basic usage of this phone, but that is another story for another time. What needs to be said about this phone is this :IT IS NOT A 5.8 GHz PHONE!

RTFM, People! It is a 2.4/5.8 GHz phone. The base transmits 5.8 GHz, but the handset transmits at 2.4 GHz. So, people looking for a phone that won't screw up their 802.11x wireless home networks better look elsewhere.

What goes unsung about this phone is the speakerphone built into the handset and the base station. For the money, it is doubtful you are going to find better. Yes, people can still tell you are on a speakerphone, but I have yet to have someone complain about the sound quality.A go-nearly-anywhere speakerphone with an almost-never-say die battery? Fuhgedaboudit!

Oh, one other unsung feature of the this phone. The charger for a spare battery (and if you have teen girls you know of whence I speak!) is built into the base station. Now that is a cool touch. Push the button, out pops the tray, slap in the battery, slide it closed, and you are chargin', man!

Bottom line : Great value, unsung features, and solid performance. It is NOT a true 5.8 GHz phone, however.

2-0 out of 5 stars Can't communicate with Talk America Caller ID
We bought this phone to replace an old Pansonic cordless. It would not show who was calling on caller ID.Tried talking to VTech customer support but they are located somewhere outside the country and really couldn't help beyond reading from various manuals they must keep on line.Thought maybe it was just this model so ventured off to Best Buy to try a new VTech model. It wouldn't communicate either.Returned both and have settled for a Uniden with base speaker phone.First try it recognized and displayed caller ID info.Be careful if you use Talk America as your provider! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Look, Ma - no wires!
Well, not exactly - the base does need to plug into the wall, but what a handy extra phone. I have the base phone and I love it, and this makes a nice addition to the home network. I have this extra one plugged into the wall of a room that does not have a phone jack, but it doesn't need one, since it communicates w/ the base on the other side of the house.

I bought my base phone about a year ago, but just got the additional handset 2 weeks ago. All I had to do was to put it in the base cradle for 3 seconds and it automatically was programmed for use.

The built-in speaker phone is not the best in the world, but still pretty awesome, all things considered. The jack for the hands-free mike is awesome, and in my opinion, absolutely necessary. I won't buy a handset that doens't have a hands-free option anymore... and it's a normal jack, not some funky jack that needs an expensive adapter.

The caller ID holds 99 numbers and you can easily begin and end calls and use all the features without a manual or a degree in rocketry science.

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally..........a better cordless system
I am very impressed with this system. I never liked cordless phones but needed one. The range is amazing and I've bought two extensions. Thank you Uniden!

2-0 out of 5 stars Slick looking but lacking in performance
I purchased this phone but returned it.My initial reaction was to the sound quality. When comparing this item to my Panasonic 2 line 900 mhz spread spectrum phone, I noticed that the sound quality was noticeably worse.

My second reaction was to the inability to use both handsets simultaneously.I feel that if a cordless system has two handsets, they should both be able to talk on one line at the same time.Plus, there is no feature to transfer the address book from one phone to another.

Overall, this phone is very slick looking, and might work for someone who is satisfied with only 10 minutes of answering machine recording time and doesn't mind mediocre sound quality.I find that the older 900 mhz DSS panasonic phones offer much higher sound quality and extended range in comparison to this phone. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good phone, but not a great one
Last year, I bout Panasonic TX-TG2224 which is a great phone. And I just bout this one cuz I wanted to have even greater one.Well, I didn't find anything better about this phone over TX-TG2224.This phone is about $40 more than the 2224 phone and this one is 5.8GHz instead of 2.4GHz.When I switched the phone from 2224 to this new one during the conversation, the other party complained about weaker volume. The ringer tone and melody is not that great, either. My old 2224 has better ringer options. This phone shoul've been priced just about $10 more than the KX-TG2224.If you are looking for a good phone w/ decent price, I definitely recommed KX-TG2224 over this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good function, ugly appearance
First, the good news. Panasonic has fixed all of the problems the 2.4GHz phones experienced. They have finally seen the light and are using NiMH batteries. These are a huge improvement over the previous NiCad batteries. Sound quality is good, as is range. Setup is easy, and the features all work as they should. This phone functions so much better than the Siemens phone it replaces that there is simply no basis for comparison. Function early a solid five stars.

The bad news for many will be the appearance. What are the product stylists at Panasonic thinking and who do they imagine the buyer is? One wonders what sort of décor they imagine will be enhanced by bright silver phones with orange LCD screens and antennas sticking up everywhere? Before you buy one, make sure that any other decision makers in the household are consulted on the appearance. The icing on the cake is the rather large baby blue and black logo announcing to the world that this is the "5.8GHz Gigarange Supreme" which completes the overall cheesy appearance nicely. Our Siemens phone may have been had functional issues, but it was well styled and disappeared into virtually any background. On the other hand, the Uniden phones make the Panasonic styling look positively restrained. Appearance earns a dismal two stars.

Keypad layout is pretty typical of what one expects these days from Asian mass-market electronics companies, busy and cluttered. Why use a single button for talk/hang up when you can use a separate one for each? If there was space to add more buttons, rest assured Panasonic would have. Since the buttons actually feel good in use, are not overly sensitive and don't stick when pushed, the layout earns three stars.

In the end I weighted my rating more toward function, as that's really the only area one can be objective about, and the function is strong. If you can stand to look at it, and you're not married to someone that will hold a grudge because you brought something hideous looking into the house, you probably won't be disappointed. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Lousy Range
Other reviews fairly reflected my feelings about the system. My complaint is the range from the base set to the handset. I live in a fairly large townhome. My baseset is at the front of the first floor and one of the handsets is at the rear of the second floor. The distance is only 80' plus 12' up. The handset can not communicate at that range. This is a normal house with regard to heating ducts, electrical wiring, etc.

AT&T cusomter service was great when I first brought this to their attention and even sent me a new base unit. I also tried different handsets, all to no avail.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone!
My husband bought me this phone for Christmas to replace a V-tech model that had just wasn't working quite right for us.

I love this phone - the only reason that I'm not giving it 5 stars is because there is one feature that I'd really like that seems to be missing, which is that the memory and caller-ID still don't communicate quite as much as I'd like.

The talking caller-ID function is great - no running around the house trying to find the phone just to figure out if I even want to answer. You can program in the names for your most frequent callers (which are recognized via caller-ID, even if they're not programmed the exact same way as your memory), and it can also be set up to announce full numbers of those who aren't in your memory, so you might still recognize the number without having to get to the actual phone.

The 5.8 GHz works great in our house. The 2.4 that we replaced had major interference with the microwave, but this one is terrific - no static at all, ever.

The piece that's still missing is the actual caller ID/memory interface. Even though you can program the talking bit, the caller ID always comes up as the official listing and not "mom", for example. This isn't bad, except that so many of my calls come in from "wireless caller", so I have to actually recognize the number. Again, the voice announce caller ID works, but if you happen to miss that (you're not close enough to the base when the phone rings, for example) then you're stuck with going, "Hmmm, I think that's my mother-in-law's cell number..." Back a few years and two phones ago, we had an AT&T model that DID include this feature, as do most cell phones. Also, that old phone had a feature that would allow you to customize outgoing messages to 10 numbers in caller ID, so that you could tell your buddy "Hey, meet me at 4:00 at the bar," but not let the whole world know where you were. That was cool, and I wish it was still a feature.

The speaker phone options work well, both from the base and from the handset. The base speaker could use a few more ticks on the volume - or maybe my house is just loud - but it does work great if you stay close. It's also nice because you can answer the phone from the base if you can't immediately find a handset - a typical problem in my house!

The digital answering machine function is also typically fine. There are 3 mailboxes, though we only use one. There are several ring tone options, and you can even have the handset vibrate.

All in all, this is a great phone. If you've had some issues with interference on a 2.4, this is a great upgrade.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not quite perfect
After a friend of mine purchased the 5830 several months ago, I've been debating between the 5830 and 5840.After finding that the 5870 was released, I thought I had found my perfect phone.

Positives are pretty much what everyone as said:
- Solid feel
- Nifty blue lighting
- The clock in the display
- Sound quality is excellent while listening to the other end
- Speakerphone on the handset works very well.Used it on a few calls so far without any complaints.Makes those long conference calls less painful.
- Even though the 5870 is 5.8GHz / 2.4GHz, it doesn't appear to be interfering with the wireless network (802.11b).My old Panasonic Gigarange Extreme is 2.4GHz/900MHz, and it will occasionally knock me offline.
- Registering a second handset was very easy; just punch in the code from the bottom of the base unit on the new handset.
- Battery life appears good. Was on a 3.5-4 hour conference call and the handset still showed at least a half charge.

Negatives:
- while the handsets will set their clock from caller id, the base unit / answering machine requires manual setting
- there is no time display on the base unit, so setting the time must be done audibly. Not a bad process, but tedious. You must hit the "Change" button to iterate through the options instead of just punching in the numbers. For example, to set the time as 7:25 pm, you have to press the set time button, then press it again to go into set mode.First up is the day; hit Change and it will announce Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. for every press.Get to the correct day, then hit the set time button to go into hours.Change button again, starting from 12 am.Every press of Change will increment one hour.Get the proper hour (make sure AM/PM is right), then set time again to get to minutes. The Change button is then used to increment minute by minute. On the plus side, you can hit the button rapidly instead of listening to the voice announce every minute.
- Handsets will display the time in the idle screen, but not the date. The caller ID log does display the date.
- While on a call, you have no access to the clock on that handset. You just get options of Hold, Xfer, and Mute.If you place the call on hold and wait a few seconds, you'll get the time display though.
- There seems to be a very faint echo when I speak. Not obnoxious, but it's on both handsets and noticeable when compared to my other phones (Panasonic Gigarange Extreme and an old Nortel Meridian) which don't echo.
- No button available to change the channel. My Panasonic has it, and it's how I get the network functional again when the phone collides with the network.
-There is no call timer.
- Remote access code is only 2 digits.Yes, 2 digits.Seems rather poor security in my opinion.

Mixed feelings:
- A saved name / number in the phone's memory doesn't override the incoming caller id info.In other words, if you save a name, when the call comes in, only the caller id name shows, not the saved name.I think this has been touched on before.
- Each handset's memory (caller id log and stored phone book) is fully independent. That means no sharing of phone books between handsets, and clearing the log on one handset does nothing to the others.
- As said by others, caller id announce is only from base.
- If you screen calls, you have to be near the base to hear the caller leaving the message. There is no way to screen calls using only the handset.
- Caller id display seems somewhat slow to appear on the handset when a call comes in.It shows up line by line (name, number, time), unlike my other phones where all the information appears immediately.
- For some reason, if you have a headset plugged in, the handset will not allow you to switch to speaker phone. You have to unplug the headset, then hit the speaker phone button.
- You can only pickup messages on the answering machine from the base unit.

Overall, a good, solid phone, butit isn't quite perfect.I'm not sure yet if I'm going to keep it or return it and continue waiting for the perfect phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars 5870 phone system
Pro's Many features easy to program nice style and comfortable to use. Better than average reception almost no hiss and I have lots of electrical equipment set up in the house.

Con's Call waiting ID feature did not work (might be isolated case I don't know)
Conversation volume fades in and out during use. went to support web site says this is normal for this type of phone (5.8 GHz).

Sorry I had to return it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Aural Caller ID Only On Base Unit
Was going to purchase the ATT 5840 but elected to purchase the 5870 due to the aural caller ID feature. I thought the caller ID would be announced from handsets but that is not the case. You have to be within earshot of the base to hear the talking caller ID. Frequency band 5.8 only used between handset to base - 2.4 used between base to handset. Range has not been a problem for me but then I don't wander too far from home.Phone book entries must be entered into each handset manually.Look, feel, sound quality and other features of the phone are top notch. You can use more than one handset to get in on phone calls which was not the case with the Sony 2.4 phone system I replaced.Best price I could find on the net for base unit and two 5800 handsets came from sellcom.com ($290). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very good phone
Didn't feel like signing in, soI used a kid's form. Contrary to popular belief, this phone is very good. Most of the myths of the phone are horribly fabricated (long wait to talk, doesn't charge). I've had the phone for six years, and am planning on buying more for the other rooms in my home. I would definitely recommend this phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE
I've owned 3 AT&T phones in this line, 2 of which are the 9345 model, the other is the same phone but with the answering machine base and all 3 have had problems within the first 2 years. The screen begins to fade after about a year of regular use, which renders the caller ID and directory completely useless as the numbers become illegible. Contacting AT&T is a joke, as they only issue a standard email telling you to refer to your user manual or the FAQ on their website, neither of which address the fading caller ID screen. The cust service phone number is equally frustrating, as you get only recorded responses and cannot speak to a representative. The final straw with the last phone came when I found that callers could hear me, but I could not hear them. Between the ridiculously short life of its most appealing features (caller ID and 50 number storage) and the utter lack of customer service, I have decided that the quality AT&T used to be famous for is now sorely lacking and I will never purchase another of their phones. Save your money and do some research on other brands!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars I can't hear you.
I purchased this telephone after a series of Uniden phones that broke after any abuse. We own another AT&T phone that has worked fine for about 10 years so I thought this might be more durable.Indeed it may be more durable but that is not the problem.

My main issue with this phone is that even at the highest volume level I still cannot hear the person at the other end of the phone. Some other problems I have encountered is the programable telephone directory which saves your numbers in alphabetical order. This is fine in theory but if you call someone frequently and their last name begins with a Z, you will spend a lot of time scrolling through the directory. In addition, there does not appear to be any way to call someone back from caller ID if they are calling long distance. The caller ID displays the area code and number and there is no way to add a 1 to the number to return the call.

I think that I would have been better off buying a series of Uniden phones that I could have at least used.

1-0 out of 5 stars This Phone Is Horrible!!!!
I have had this phone for less than a year and have had nothing but problems with it since I've had it.First, it takes forever to answer. Then, it doesn't even charge right. So you put the phone on the charger overnight, thinking you'll be able to use it in the morning....but no such luck because it only charges when it feels like it.The base of my phone is completely useless. At this point I can't get my phone to charge at all. This was the worst money that I've ever spent.I might as well get a cup and some string to talk on!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Most uncomfortable phone I've ever owned
I know that since the break-up of Ma-Bell, nobody takes any time to design phones for comfort or useabilility, but it seems to me that the designers of this phone went out of their way to make it as uncomfortable as possible. I've had it out of the box for about an hour now, and its going right back where it came from. Pass this one by! ... Read more

2-Line 2.4 GHz GigaRange Digital Cordless Phone with Call Waiting Caller ID Reduced Interference, Improved Security against Eavesdropping 2.4 GHz Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum Technology. That's a mouthful, but what does it mean? Our technology hops constantly through a range of available channels to reduce interference and to provide improved security against eavesdropping. And since it is all digital technology, you get long range and incredible clarity. Two-Line Operation Helps You Manage Your Calls With two-line operation, you can conference in two outside lines to have a three-way conversation. Or place your current call on hold to make another call. Being able to use two phone lines with just one phone makes it convenient and efficient to manage your calls. See Who's Calling, Even if You're Already on the Phone We've all become accustomed to Caller ID and its ability to let us see who's calling before we answer the phone. Then there's call waiting, a beep letting us know there's another call coming in. But until now, you wouldn't know who was beeping in unless you answered it. With Call Waiting Caller ID1 you get the best of both worlds. Now when you get a beep, you can see who's calling before you answer. But we'll leave that decision up to you! Put the Phone Down While You Talk Having a handset speakerphone may not seem like such a big deal-until you have to call an automated phone system. By the time you press 2 and return the phone to your ear, you missed half the next option! And when they put you on hold for ten minutes, do you really need to hold the phone? Not with the handset speakerphone. Just listen along, and press a button or pick up when it's convenient. You'll think up other great uses, like letting Grandma and Grandpa listen to their new grandchild at the same time, painting your nails as you talk to your best friend, or just being able to set the phone down while you talk. Designed for optimal sound quality, convenience, and security, the VTech i5881 5.8 GHz digital spread spectrum phone system comes loaded with a three-mailbox digital answering system and two-in-one convenience--a fully functional handset and cordless base unit. You get call waiting/caller ID (with paid service from your phone company) on both the handset and base unit, and the i5881 also offers a dial-in-base speakerphone and both analog and digital clocks on the handset.

Use the system's intercom to make conference calls and to transfer calls between the handsets and base. Sound Select lets you personalize the phone's sounds to suit your taste using four different presets. Other key features include any-key answer (which saves time in answering when you're in danger of missing a call), headset compatibility (for hands-free conversations), and a dual-battery charger with power backup (which lets you make and receive calls--even during a power outage).

You can expand the VTech i5881 system to a total of six handsets while still using only one phone jack (five additional handsets not included), and you can station the additional handsets almost anywhere in your home. Each of the handsets communicates through the base, which requires only a single power outlet for operation.

The included handset and any optional handsets can each function as speakerphones and also allow handset-to-handset communication. Each handset offers a choice of a silent or vibrating ringer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy this phone...
I've had this phone for 6 months and the handset that came with it won't charge anymore.A new battery didn't solve the problem. A quick call to VTech for a replacement handset reveals that they don't make this phone anymore and the only option I have is to buy a completely new setup.Don't waste your money.

3-0 out of 5 stars it's okay, but it's not true 5.8GHz
I got the new version set (with color handset)
it claims it runs at 5.8GHz, but actually handset to base is still running on 2.4GHz, only base to handset is running 5.8GHz, the reason I get 5.8GHz model is I run wireless LAN and bluetooth, the old 2.4GHz phone often kills the connection
the mailbox is not that clear, and the setup is not that easy as well, and the mailbox can be monitored ONLY on base, not any handset
the call voice is fine, speakerphone on handset is okay, not too loud, but the speakerphone on base is pretty loud if I set the volume to max
it has no hold function, you have to use mute instead
you can use walkie-talkie between handsets, and transfer calls between base and handsets
the battery is easily removable, and you can buy an extra battery for the base, that you can keep using the WHOLE system during power outage, this is very handy feature for un-interruptted use

if you're running wireless LAN at home, think twice before buying this set

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good phones for Voice over IP
This set of cordless phones is very good for VoIP users.I'm using Vonage and it only requires one phone jack.I have three add-on handsets. Also, since it's 5.8Ghz, it does not interfere with my home wireless 2.4Ghz network. There's a great speakerphone feature on each as well.I found this very useful and better than having to connect a headset to the phone.I also like the fact that each phone has its own caller ID log.I've never really tested the advertised distance capability of these phones but I've never had a problem with it within my 3 story house. The only CON about these phones and the reason I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5 star, is because the quality isn't superb.Sometimes you can get some static but overall it's a great set of phones and beats the regular 900Mhz, 2.4 Ghz cordless phones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good
Crystal sound. Build in equalizer. Excellent reception. Good range. High capacity battery. Shock resistant.

1-0 out of 5 stars Vtech answering machine problems
I've been burned by Vtech like a lot of people. The answering machine part is awful. The volume is way too low and the recording quality is terrible. But if someone is leaving a message and you are screening and try to turn up the volume, wham, the caller is disconnected and there is no message. That happened on my last Vtech phone. Consistently. I called them twice and they had trouble accepting that it might be defective (or just bad design) but said they could replace it if I sent it back (and waited without a phone for who knows how long). No more terrible Vtech products for us!! Be warned! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars sudden low battery cut-out
Overall, this is a pretty good phone and I'm going to stick with it (despite buying and dumping two or three similar phones in the past). The reception is good and the construction is solid.

The only problem after several months of use is that the battery dies suddenly without warning and I usually loose the call.It starts beeping, then a few seconds later the call is gone.I wish it gave like a one minute morning or something.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't go outside
After much review - including Consumer Reports - I decided to purchase this phone. We were extrememly happy until we tried to go outside of the house with it.The static became untolerable during calls.Other than this the phone is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy
I bought the Uniden 5.8 model as a replacement for my old and worthless Seimens phone system. After having mixed feelings from reading the reviews and looking at the 'Uniden' company name that seemed almost unheard of, I decided to purchase the phone once and for all. Boy was it a good buy. I don't know about whoever said that the reception was horrible, but this baby rings out a nice, clear tone. The dual handsets make talking around the house simple and easy, and with the extra charging cradle, both my phones are always charged. The look is professional, and the glowing orange screen gives it a nice snazzy look. I love the way each handset is light and has its own 'speaker' mode.

Overall, this Uniden phone system is great, and it hasn't let me down since I bought it several months ago. If perhaps you have a larger family and you're looking for a Uniden package with 3 phones instead of 2 that comes with a headset, check out the Uniden PowerMax 5.8; it is a awesome deal too.

2-0 out of 5 stars High price for little features
I wanted a 5.8Ghz phone, due to the fact my current cordless phones and WiFi run on 2.4Ghz. So I got the Uniden TRU5885-2 only to find out that it didn't do wait my current phones do - intercom, from handset to handset or to base. Just a page/call transfer feature. I found out how handy intercom was with my 2.4Ghz phone, when you're in back yard and the other is in the house, you don't have to yell out the window to talk, just intercom with the phones. Also it didn't have a "line in use" light/led, so you didn' know if someone is having a conversation before picking up and dialing...really annoying there. Other then that, which I deemed very important; I'm spoiled now yes, but for the price of these phones, not worth it. I'll look around more and/or wait to see if other models come out with all the cool features one might require in a $200 phone without going to a multi-line system.

4-0 out of 5 stars Know the limitations before you buy
I've had this phone for over a year now.It has an excellent feature set, but has some limitations of which I was not aware at time of purchase. Here are some features and drawbacks that others have not mentioned here:

+ Handsets each have speaker phone capabilities
+ Remote message retrieval (especially nice w/ above feature)
+ Intuitive base controls. Finally a decent user interface on a phone's base station.
+ Handsets are quite durable, surviving a few unplanned trips to the kitchen floor from the counter without damage.Bad kitty!

- Unit doesn't support more than two handsets.

Here's the bombshell:
- You can't use both handsets at the same time.Let me say that again: only one handset can be in use at any given time!If you want more than one person to take part in your side of the conversation, you have to use the speaker phone function of one of the handsets, or use one handset and the speaker phone built into the base station.

It's that last little gem of a drawback that makes me give 4 out of 5 stars. This would be my ultimate phone if not for that. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Speakerphone blur
To me the issue was the speakerphone. The voice of the caller was blurred and felt overlapped.I called AT&T customer service and they suggested that I return the item.I am doing just that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reliable, Conveniant
This is an excellent cordless phone, the extremely low price was just a plus. I needed something with a cordless module, but also a speakerphone that was clear and didn't sound like you were speaking through a megaphone. The reception is also unbelievable, I have quite a large house and this phone works floors away from the phone cradle! This product delivered, I full heartedly recommend it. ... Read more

The KX-TG2000B is a full telephone system capability on 2 separate telephone lines. The base master unit and each cordless handset communicate in both directions using Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) Digital transmission for secure, ultra clear conversations. Up to 8 cordless handsets can be used in this system offering many PBX functions without wiring as in conventional small telephone systems. The KX-TG2000B base unit houses an all-digital voice mail system that provides one general delivery mailbox and up to 8 personal mailboxes, with a total recording time of 100 minutes. Each mailbox has its own individual greeting and can be accessed from any of the cordless handset stations. 1-0 out of 5 stars Worst PHONE ever!!!!
I purchased this phone in May 2004 - I have had nothing but problems with the unit and handsets.Panasonic states the base unit most be situated in a room with out a computer or 9 feet away from the closest one in order to not get garbly staticy reception on the handsets - wonder what office doesn't have a computer near a phone??Low and behold you move the base unit away from the computers and the handsets still are garbled.Panasonic now states to reset the base unit and handset - i have to do this 5-6 times a day, while trying to talk to customers. And that still doesn't work all the time!!
Terrible System!! - Panasonic's warranty (I bought 3 yr extended) only covers giving me another model - I ship my base unit out to them, which leaves me with no phone system in the meantime. My recommendation - Stay away, far away from this phone system!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!! BEST PURCHASE I HAVE EVER MADE!!!!
I just bought this thing from Amazon and all I can say

is WOW!!!!

This is probably the best purchase I have ever made.

This thing is everything I ever expected and more!! It's

very easy to use as well!

I have bought other brands before, and this one just

blows everything else out of the water! I have to say,

everyone out there who is thinking of buying this, stop

thinking. I bought it and I am extremely happy with it

the moment I powered this thing on. YOU ABSOLUTELY

POSITIVELY CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THIS PURCHASE! I

GUARANTEE IT!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Evaluate your phone needs first!
As you can read from the many reviews there is a love/hate relationship with these multi-line phones. We run a small business from home with the need to have access to our home line along with the business line (2 line phone KXTG-2000B).The Panasonic phone had the features we wanted but we ran into a quality control issue. The first phone system lasted 2 weeks and Amazon sent us a second system. That phone lasted one week before we started to encounter poor reception on the remote handsets.Amazon refused to send us a third replacement and said they would refund all our money. We live 30 minutes away from the Panasonic repair center located in Langhorne, PA USA.I dropped the phone off for repair and got the phone back in a week.I have to agree with a previous reviewer that the Panasonic repair phone number is constantly busy and I had to call many times to get a person to see if the phone was repaired.Panasonic did not call me when phone repairs were completed. However, after the repair the phone performed perfectly. The audio quality is excellent without the constant cutting in and out (remote handsets) as before. The range is about 50 feet further than our old Sony 900 Mhz cordless phones. The phone has been working well for the last 2 months, so for now all sins are forgiven. We kept working with this phone system because the alternative phones (Siemens 8825) had just as many if not more problems than the Panasonic multi-line phone system.

1-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic dropped the ball with this one!
The bottom line is, 90% of us purchased this phone for the "auto-attendant" feature. Unfortunately, Panasonic skimped on everything in this area. The auto-attendant functionality is basic, bare-bones, and completely unconfigurable.

The only thing you can change is the general greeting message and the mailbox messages. YOU CAN'T set your own extention numbers, define how many rings to allow before picking up, set to go to mail box automatically if there's no answer, etc, etc, etc.

If all you really need is a multi-line phone with answering machine, look elsewhere, there are far better phones for 1/3 the price. If you need the auto-attendant functionality, this is unfortunatly the only phone available short of purchasing a more expensive PBX system. If you want an idea of how limited this system is: go to Panasonic's web site and download the product manual PDF from the support section.

3-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic KXTG2000B
So far so good after 2 weeks of use. Some static problems with the handset which seemed to fix themselves.I am a little concerned about the battery life in the handset and am trying to use the charge up completely before placing it in the recharger as it says in the manual.Of course in an office situation that doesn't always work and I sometimes pick it up in the morning and find it has no charge which means I can't use it for 8 hours.....Thankfully I have the main base handset as a backup.
I am getting a battery light on the base station that stays on all of the time.Maybe that just means that the battery in the main base unit is charged. It does not explain that in the guide.
After looking at all of my options before buying this phone it seems Panasonic could fix most of their problems by using batteries with memory.....Most people have old Panasonic phones that they love and can't work out why the new versions have older technology. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth the cost
This phone is unreliable. The batteries eventually quit recharging, then later buttons quit working.I used the system for less than a year before it began to have problems.I recommend passing this one, get anything else you can find.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I have had this phone for over a year and it is ideal for my situation. I have one jack upstairs and one in the kitchen. You get two phones in one with only one base set to plug in. I keep the base and one handset upstairs and the extension phone downstairs that doesn't have to be plugged in. It is the best phone I have owned and I have bought expensive ones in the past. I wish I could get another extension phone to add to it. I may just buy another set for myself for Xmas.

1-0 out of 5 stars poor
My husband bought this phone shortly before we were married and never had any trouble with it, than shortly after we were married it started acting up sometimes not even letting us answer it.The caller ID is totally unreliable and is iffy at times.<br /> The reseption on it is mute at times.I have answered the phone before to find that it hung up on me all on its own.I tell my husband that it is the demon phone. We tried to replace it but had just as much trouble from that one.All in all im still on the hunt for the perfect phone. One thats not possesed.

1-0 out of 5 stars nice if you like to hear yourself speak
If I could give this phone no stars I would have. It is the worst phone I ever bought. There is always an echo on the line when you are on it and the sound quality is terrible. If you read the reviews for this phone you will see that the good ones are in a very small minority. Listen to us: "DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE"!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Unreliable
This phone worked great for about four months. After four months, one phone began displaying the message "Out of Order." After that message appeared, the phone never worked again - despite changing it's battery. The second phone lasted about two additional months before it began displaying the same "Out of Order" message. Someone should have indicated on the box that it was really a disposable phone! ... Amazon.com Product Description

The VT 1511 wireless headset is a revolution in cordless telephones. Unlike most other digital 900 MHz cordless phones, the VT 1511 is a completely wireless headset telephone--and one with a very unique space-age design. When using the headset, you have complete freedom of movement. There are no cords or cables to worry about, so your hands will be free to keep working.

In addition to the headset, the VT 1511 comes with a corded desk set with a keypad, from which you can access the 20-number speed dial and intercom feature between base unit and headset. It also comes with an infrared remote-control dial card, which you can use to dial numbers when away from the base unit.

The VT 1511 digitizes your voice using advanced ADPCM digital voice encoding to provide noise- and distortion-free performance. In most conditions, you will not be able to tell you are using a cordless phone. The VT 1511 informs you when another extension is currently in use on the same phone line. It also has an out-of-range alert, even when you're not on the phone. Other features include tone/pulse dialing, 10-channel operation with auto channel selection, spare battery charger in base unit, and a hearing aid compatible receiver.

The VT 1511 uses special memory that is not susceptible to power failures. This provides permanent storage of all memory dial numbers and security codes. With an optional battery pack installed in the base unit, the VT 1511 can provide full operational backup in case of power failure. Calls can still be placed and received on the headset without interruption. With a fully charged battery pack in the base unit, you'll have up to five hours of backup usage time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE ABSOLUTE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD !
First I must say that I can't understand why they stopped making this phone. This is such a unique product.I am dismayed that it has been discontinued.

I bought my first one on Ebay after having great hearing difficulties. My medical problem actually (at times) distorts sounds on a regular telephone handset... to the point where all I can hear is a vibration but not able to distinguish what the caller is saying.

That medical condition is what prompted me to search for some kind of phone that had dual earpieces and wouldn't distort the voices on the other end.

I took my chances and purchased the Vtech 1511.It actually has been a LIFESAVER for me because I NEED to be able to talk on the phone quite a bit during the course of running my home-based business.

I LOVE THIS PHONE.

When mine broke / wore out I called Vtech to find out about servicing it and I was told they no longer did since it had been discontinued. I was FRANTIC.

I found another on Ebay and purchased it and was off an running.

Recently I came across one on Ebay and bought it just to put it in the cupboard for when and if I need this phone again someday.

I think I could not live without this product... and I RARELY say that about anything.

It is crystal clear... gives you total freedom... and the fact that the ear pieces don't actually sit "on" your ears was just exactly the type of hearing device I needed.

Like I said.... the BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!

5-0 out of 5 stars These things are great
I really like my Vtech 1511s.However, they are apparently discontinued by the manufacturer. [...]

It's true that they are a weird configuration where all of the stuff sits on your head, but I think it's more than worth it to not have wires everywhere.Reception is good, for me it worked flawlessly to about 50 feet through interior & exterior walls.

The boom mike can break off if flexed by pulling on it repeatedly. That's a problem. But otherwise, this is some very good engineering from what I see as a usually [...] vendor (vtech).[...], but in the case of the 1511 it's really a [nice] unit.

The charger for the headset is inductively coupled; no metal contacts to corrode.VERY COOL!

The small box hides the fact that in addition to the headset, charging stand, and dial pad, you get a full-on desk unit with intelligently done speed dials (unfortunately not in true executive phone style [extra buttons] but intuitively programmable). It's missing a speakerphone, however.

I worked out of a home office for a year doing a lot of phone consultation and sales, and this thing was great.Unfortunately, one of the units' mikes has broken (due to flexion) and now I don't know whether I should scrounge used units or what.I hope they come out with a very slightly refined version of this great product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great at first but thin plastic
There is a real fine thin piece of plastic that attaches the side with the microphone. It easily broke after a couple months of use, which made the headset totaly useless. Yet another headset tossed in the garbage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I feel like the phone was in excellent condition and the seller gave superb customer service.Any and all issues were handled promptly.I would recommend anyone to buy from this seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Wireless!! And good sound features.
I'm a mom and housefrau, and I wanted a phone that was truly wireless, with nothing to clip on my belt - that type always falls off or gets tangled or is otherwise awkward for me. When I saw this at a friend's house, I wanted one right away.I couldn't believe it was the only such (truly wireless) model in existence, and that the company had stopped making them ???!!!

Anyway, now I have one, and I am quite (if not 100%) satisfied.

THE PLUSES ARE:

1)Truly wireless and hands-free.

2)Relatively very comfortable on my head; easy to wear for a long conversation. (Earphones not directly on your ears, but above them, so it's not only more comfortable, but if another family member leans in close, they can participate in the conversation and still hear and be heard.)

3)Two phones in one; one cordless headset, one corded deskset.

4)Charging base for headset is *separate* from the corded phone base; therefore it need not be near a phone jack, but needs only an electrical outlet. (Great in our house, since we have no phone jack in the kitchen!)

5)Sound quality, range and clarity seem great - we've had it only one week, but so far it's terrific - even out to the garden. No interference; no cutting out, which we had read that others experienced. Sound quality on our receiver is good, and people tell us it sounds good on the other end. Compared to our old cordless phone it picks up WAY less background noise - very important for a cordless, hands-free phone!

6)Good volume control and range. I have hearing loss - need to turn it up! My husband doesn't - likes it quieter.Other phones have not been loud enough for me.This one is great, but see negative #4, below.

7)It's super-easy and convenient to turn on and off by just flipping the microphone arm down or up.But see negative #3, below. Microphone arm also very adjustable to help adjust volume.

8)Price!Because this phone has been discontinued, you can find it at a huge discount. But act fast - they seem to be disappearing (we're trying to get more for friends/relatives).

THE NEGATIVES ARE:

1)It's easy to lose the remote dialer, or for it to get separated from the headset - it's little and a separate piece.Of course, that's what makes the phone truly wireless, but it would be great if they could have attached it to the headset in a removeable way - I'm thinking about adding velcro, maybe.

2)The remote dialer is almost too small - keypad is tiny so dialing has to be done carefully and precisely, and it's hard to see the commands like "mute", etc.

3)If you want to nibble or drink or make a private comment to someone in the room without the person on the other end of the phone hearing you - you can't get the microphone of this phone very far away from your mouth without turning off the phone and cutting off the connection! But maybe those are bad phone habits/etiquette anyway.

4)Volume adjustment buttons on headset are a little hard to find by touch and awkward to use, but maybe I'll get more used to them over time.

5)Battery is non-standard. ... Read more
