5-0 out of 5 stars See Loved Ones Over Phone Calls - Send Photos From Camera
I bought this product because I cannot be with family overseas.I bought direct from Vialta, and split my shipment, one to me (Chicago), and one to Philippines (Cebu).

I called my sister I was able to see her on the telephone, I almost cried, I have not seen her in over 4 years!

We later tried sending photos.I loaded my Compact Flash card into the Beamer, and tramitted these pictures without any problem.

This is the perfect 'Stay In Touch' gift you can possibly give your family.Who are you going to 'miss' this Christmas?

Thanks Vialta for a simple to use, wonderful product!

- Janet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Infoglobe is really cool
I've had one of these little toys since Christmas and it works beautifully, no trouble at all. Now I did have probelms with the first one, it wouldn't really ever work, but I think it was damaged because the Radio Shack it was purchased at only had 2, and my mom bought the other one and hers didn't work either. I ordered this one and it has been awesome. I love the messages I can set myself, it has never failed to display an incoming number, you can see the info from across the room, and the whole thing is just really cool in appearance.
Sure the engine is audible- if you're about 3 inches from it! Mine sits on my computer desk next to my phone, and I never evcen notice any sounds. Friends who come over and see it are fascinated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Info Glode....Not bad!
I consider myself lucky after what I have been reading.I do have the version that takes the 3 aaa batteries and for a week have not had a problem.A little noise but when you normally set things up, it is quiet and you have to understand how it works. It is bound to make a little noise....hey, it is a toy!Have fun and enjoy.

The only thing I agree with is the setup is somewhat confusing.Read the instructions a few times and you will figure out how to do it but there are still a lot of "clicks" to enter your 6 messages.

I do want one at work too.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's cool enough for the money.Get it.
Very cool.Has value as a nifty clock/calendar even if you don't hook it to your phone line (though I have).I've often considered getting another one for work just for the "ooh, ahh" effect--and I wouldn't use it as caller ID there.I also enjoy that its operation is so intuitive (I never have to get the instructions out).

And yes, the motor is audible, but with just a bit of trial and error you can find a placement in which the noise is minimal.

2-0 out of 5 stars Does not work properly
I saw this in the store and was excited by its geek appeal, so I had my girlfriend get this for me for my birthday. It has so much potential, but unfortunately it is wasted by the simple fact that it does not do its job well.I checked the other reviews on Amazon which mention many of the same problems, so I know it's not just my unit. These things just were not programmed well, which makes it basically worthless since it doesn't do its job.

* Misses many incoming calls.
* Gets confused and displays random question marks instead of useful info.
* Randomly loses its settings (messages, auto-off time).
* Hard to program.
* Constantly displays annoying "Olympia InfoGlobe" message instead of something more interesting.
* Numbers never expire from the unit unless you manually display each one.
* Poor interface requires excessive button pushing to display each number.
* Makes a good bit of noise unless you sit it on a pillow.
* When it does show a call, it often takes too long for the number to scroll into view.

In short, find another way to get caller ID.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cool - but needs more refinement
I liked this concept so much, however the actually function was not as good as I expected. The machine uses a spinning electrode to display information. This make a fairly audible humming sound that bothered me.

My biggest complaint is that the globe displays information all the time.I was hoping the unit would have a "sleep mode", and would only display a incoming call, but it doesn't.Thus if the unit is turned on, the unit displays date and time, or other messages 24-hrs a day. This was distracting, we sent the unit back for a refund. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars talking caller id
This is the second talking caller id I have used. One drawback is it only announces the caller once.My previous unit (different model/manufacturer) announced twice, however, this one has several features the previous did not have, like setting up a specific message for selected callers. On the whole, I have given 2 as gifts and have suggested to friends who have also purchased for their own use and as gifts. They have been received wonderfully. It is a pleasure to be able to screen your calls from another room! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good little unit for the price
We've had this for a couple of months, and so far it's done exactly what it needs to do.Only two things about it are less than perfect: 1) it's hard to see the caller information in low light, and 2) if there are new calls, a little red light continues to blink until you clear them all out.Overall, though, it's doing exactly what we bought it to do, and is a good value for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great gadget....
Ineeded a caller ID Box for my kithen, since we have gone to a retro corded phone.I reviewed many ID Boxes and found this one at a local "one-stop-shop" store. One viewer said it did not work with DSL, It does. You just need a DSL filter that you can get at any "one-stop-shop" store. It works great so far, easy to set up, and easy to install. The hardest part I had was getting the back off for the batteries....

3-0 out of 5 stars No DSL
The unit does not work with DSL.It displays Caller ID information when you are on the line with another caller, but does not display any Caller ID information when you are not on the line.

When I called GE customer service about this problem, they informed me that the unit does not work with DSL.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice unit
This box is much better than the GE 29016S one I had previously. The return-call feature is nice, and this unit even has a stand underneath in case you need to view it at a higher angle.

4-0 out of 5 stars Batteries, what batteries?
Only when you read the very small print on the box do you find any mention of "batteries not included" and the battery size (3 "AA" bateries). It wasn't until I got home and opened the box that I realized it didn't include the batteries. The LCD display is a little tough to read depending on the room lighting. Otherwise, it seems to be a nice unit. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Works but has issues!
The unit has some nice features. When you are online the right side of the unit flashes bright light green and makes an alert tone to surely get your attention if you're out of the room.Works like any other callerid device. I.E. When you receive a call, you can redial by pressing a button.

When you're online and the alert tone goes off you simply lift your receiver that's connected to the unit and press the "call waiting" button. You can talk as long as your modem will allow (mine is roughly 10-15 seconds) then hang up and your still online.

On the back of the unit are 4 jack ports (line in, phone, computer and fax)

One thing that is annoying is that every once and awhile it will click and I lose internet connection for about 10 seconds.I enjoy playing poker online and this sometimes folds my hands because I time out in the game. It's a little annoying because it can happen every 5-10 minutes or not at all.

I called AT&T and asked them if this was normal operation and they said that I had a defective unit.

I brought it back to the store that I purchased it from and got a new one.I had the same issue with the new one.In my opinion, it's a glitch in the unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars AT&T 438 works great
Have had the AT&T 438 for 10 days & it works great.Changed from cable to dial-up connecton (have caller ID and call waiting).I use internet for messages & websites. The flashing light when a call comes in is really large & no way you could miss it: press button & pick up phone if you want to answer the call.Easy to install-no problem.Bought at Walmart for $25.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gave it a second try!
I purchased this item 2 weeks ago from Wal-Mart for $35, but have only been using it for a few days. When I first connected the box to my computer, I had an expandable cordless phone system connected to it.The box did what it claimed, however when I was using any one of my cordless phones for a voice call, no caller-id / call-waiting information was displayed. Instead it was displayed on the box, which was upstairs by my computer. With me being home during the day (high time for telemarketers), this was not going to work. I had a 2-line phone adapter laying around, so I thought that I would connect my cordless phone system directly into the wall, rather than into the back of the unit. That fixed my CID / CW problem, but when I was on-line and another call came in I had to manually sign off of the internet before I could pick up the call. By the time my connection signed off, most of the callers had hung up. So, in the box this thing went.

After some research, I downloaded computer software which was supposed to do the same thing but through my modem. This worked for a week, but then I noticed that I was being notified of only 50-60% of the calls coming in. On top of that, even if I chose to ignore the call I was quickly disconnected.

I pulled the Internet Call Alert box out again and decided to give it another try. Here is how I got it to work for me. I still use the 2-line adapter for my phone line. My expandable cordless phone system goes directly into the wall using one line. The Internet Call Alert box is plugged into the second line. Into that I have my modem/pc connected, a fax machine, and then I added a corded telephone which I only use to answer incoming calls while on the net. With that, I have also added voice mail to my telephone package to answer calls which I choose to ignore. In the end I have spent less than $45. Up front that's not so good, but in comparison with internet call alert programs charging a monthly fee I would have spent more than that in less than a year.

I have not noticed any type of page freezing, or false signals. I have been able to answer a few very short phone calls without being disconnected, and when I choose to ignore the calls it's happy surfing. I only use the internet for e-mail, research and chatting. I like that this box displays caller id information, and it seems to work like a normal caller id box even when not on the internet. The call waiting alert makes an audible sound and also 1/4 of the box flashes. It's not just a little LED light.

Overall, I gave this product 4 stars because I have been using it for less than a month.

1-0 out of 5 stars For absolute novice users only.
The device appears to work very well at a glance. However, when you're working with any sort of constant data stream (i.e. online games, chat, etc.), the stupid thing renders itself useless.

Once connected to the internet, the device will audibly 'click' at random intervals, and your connection will effectively freeze for several seconds... sometimes as long as 15 seconds. The 'clicks' may subside for as long as ten minutes, or they may occur several times one right after the other (which adds up to almost a full minute of no data going in or out!).It doesn't make any sense, and it's not addressed in the manual.I tried to troubleshoot the problem on my own, but I don't know why it's even happening in the first place.

It's very frustrating.Maybe my unit is defective, maybe it's not.Maybe my line causes the device to behave this way, or maybe not. After experimenting with several devices of this nature, I'm convinced that DSL or Cable internet is the only internet that can peacefully co-exist with a single phone line in the same household.56k is either on or it's not.Software that manages incoming calls is not a viable option for me.

I really wanted to like this device.I really liked the design and features, but I just can't recommend it to anyone.Say, if all you do is surf and check e-mail, it is very likely that this device will *still* slow you down and interrupt your usual online habits.I mean, it does a fine job of alerting you of calls when they come in... but when the connection is this useless, why even bother signing on?1 star.Move along, folks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Performs As Advertised
I have caller ID with caller ID waiting as well as home voice mail. When I am online, incoming calls come up on the display with the name and phone number. The unit beeps and flashes when you receive a call. You can turn down the beep or turn it off altogether. You can hook a phone up to it to take a call that is important, although I have not done this.

I also like that a light will flash and it will display an envelope icon when I have a voice mail message. There is also a light that shows that your modem is connected. If the light goes out you know that your connection has been dropped. In conclusion, it does everything I expected of it. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars HOW DO YOU RESET THE LANGUAGE OPTION?
I bought several of these since they were inexpensive, although they EAT batteries.Unfortunately, I didn't keep the instructions for setting the language (which you must re-do after changing the batteries). Can anyone out there help me with this? Thanks!

1-0 out of 5 stars Hard to Read
Quite simply, this caller ID display is too hard to read from any angle EVEN if it has brand new batteries in it, AND the contrast is turned up all the way.The display is just too dim.Save your money and don't buy this one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Passable product, sham warranty
As with most budget-priced caller ID boxes these days, the display is seriously lacking in contrast, and harder to read than boxes made a decade ago.The contrast control, with about 20 settings, gives you the choice of a too-dark background (showing all 8's) or a too-light foreground. The unit comes with a non-detachable cord, denying you the option of locating the box far away from the jack using a longer cord. The 1-year warranty is nonsense because you must pre-pay a "shipping and handling" charge almost equal to the price of the unit.I wish manufacturers would spend an extra nickel to add two more wires to the feed-through, which would make it possible to use a 2-line phone (although with caller ID only on line 1).Another nice feature would be a way to delete all calls from a specific number simultaneously.Without these features, this Southwestern Bell unit performs its basic function adequately, though not superbly. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Thorougly confused
After reading the previous 8 reviews I am beginning to understand why I am experiencing problems. These reviews have helped me to become aware of many features available or needed to make this type of unit a more user friendly device.

The information re; being incompatible with DSL is true in my case also.I have requested support from atttelephoneproducts@aatphones.com.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with DSL
I like the features of this unit and would like it even better if it had all of features some other reviewers listed, like call sorting and adjustable LCD.Mine has neither of these features. But my real complaint is that when my DSL modem is plugged into the wall, my Caller Display 436 will not work.It works fine as long as the DSL is not plugged in.My phones with caller ID display work at all times.I like the fact that this unit came with a power supply rather than batteries. It would be nice to have a back up battery in case of power failute and a larger display would also be nice.Is anyone aware of other units which have no problem with the DSL line?

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk
This is supposed to display the caller information, and store up to 100 calls in memory. The display of the current call works, but after getting several calls in memory the characters change to display complete gibberish when looking back at the history. If you have a use for the call history, don't buy it because it doesn't work.

2-0 out of 5 stars NO Back Light!!
What a disappointment! After 5 years using a Pacific Bell caller ID box (CIDCO Model DB99), I had no idea that a caller ID box would come with no back lighting. We have to use a flashlight to see the display on our wall! (A lamp washes out the display.)The display is adjustable but, out of 5 settings, 1 is so light you can hardly see it and 4 and 5 have filled in black boxes around the numbers making them mostly unreadable.Only setting 3 is acceptable.
I ordered this from Advanced American Telecom (although the operator said it was "Telephone"). This number was given to me after I called SBC to get a replacement for our current box (fading display).
It was $19.95 and no Shipping over the phone (the operator told me that shipping was usually $8.00 but was a promotion ending in April), but I found it was $14.95 and $6.95 S&H on their website, www.telephones.att.com. Also, you do not receive a packing slip, the label on the outside of the box is required for your warranty (labeled so) and I can't get it off -- I have peeled and peeled it but looks like I am going to have to cut it off and keep it with the cardboard still stuck to it.

Make sure your model says it has adjustable backlighting or something to that effect. Now we have to order another caller ID box and hope for the best.

Our cordless phone has caller ID but you have to pick up the phone to see it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't See its Offspring
I recently purchased the AT&T 436 and it displays call made from land lines as it should. But calls made from AT&T wireless phones don't register, instead it displays "error present" or "line error".Strange, my other caller ID devices, including an AT&T wall phone, Bell South caller ID box and a Panasonic wireless phone all display both cell and land line numbers. What's even more interesting is this AT&T caller ID box is specifically rejecting calls from it's own AT&T family. Go figure! I returned it for a full refund. ... Read more

If you're tired of squinting at your phone's tiny LCD panel, treat yourself to the GE 29016S Caller ID Box. The three-line display is nearly 3 inches long, and it simultaneously provides the name, number, date, and time of the call in the order in which the calls were received. The panel can display Spanish, French, or English titles. The memory can hold up to 60 entries; simple buttons allow you to skip or delete specific calls, and with the battery-operated memory backup, you won't lose calls if there's a power outage. 1-0 out of 5 stars Not the greatest caller ID unit
Takes 3 AAA batteries that in our experience run out too quick. Other units we've owned have lower battery drain. Also the LCD display has poor contrast. All in all, I'd buy another one that costs a few bucks more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Same Name, Better Box
My thanks to everyone who's taken the time to write a review. Reading the reviews and the product manuals enabled me to choose a Caller ID Box that suits me well. Prospective buyers should note that GE's improved this product: The current version stores 99 entries rather than the 60 stored by the earlier model. Perhaps they've modified the reflective material as well: Propped at a handy angle, the three-line readout is sharp, clear and easy to read. I've noticed none of the hesitations reported by other reviewers. Also worth noting: GE includes the line cord you'll need to install the box. A small point perhaps, but not every manufacturer does.

Attached to a single-line cordless phone, the GE Caller ID box performs very well for me. It's bright, clear and reliable. I'm happy to recommend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars caller id not there when phone in use
GE unit works ok if line is not in use. If you have a call in progress and a new call beeps, I expect to see at least the number of the new call, but no new information occurs. My wife insists that since it has three display lines, it should indicate the new caller, because we have a phone with three display lines which works that way. We have tossed out the packing box. Maybe we expected more, because of the three line display on our phone. Anyway it works good before the call is answered, and the price was ok.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor display quality, and a wiring bug
Whatever happened to the good old days, when caller ID boxes featured readable displays?I have a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old unit both of which are far easier to read than this one.The digits contrast poorly with the background, and the display is covered with a cheap, shiny material which reflects light. There are five adjustable contrast settings: bad, worse, awful, atrocious, and worst. The polarity of the feed-through is reversed, which means that an older push-tone phone cannot be plugged in through the box (you can't dial out).Newer phones, and rotary phones, should work OK.When the caller is UNKNOWN (unavailable, out-of-area) the words UNKNOWN NUMBER blink, but very slowly, in an annoying way that forces you to wait a second to see what's going on.This box, in common with most others, cannot be used with a 2-line phone plugged into it (not even the phone will work, let alone the caller ID) because the manufacturer was too cheap to include two extra wires in the feed-through.Another feature missing from this and other boxes is a way to delete all calls from a specific number simultaneously (this would be especially handy with UNKNOWN calls). Not a great product, GE, but you're not alone, I guess. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Dependable and cheap
This is a great product, with all features a home phone user wishes. The price could not be matched even by Amazon, a must have corded phone, by the way, its the best corded phone i ve seen recently, the cordless handset is average voice quality but worth its price two times

5-0 out of 5 stars At&T phone review
Excellent features. Don't discount the corded feature. When the power goes out (like it does in Florida during hurricaines) you still get calls through the corded base.An all-cordless system leaves you stranded.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stopped working the 3rd Day
What a shame. I had such high hopes for this system as it was inexpensive compared to others (you get what you pay for). Ordered from Amazon.com and received promptly, but on the 3rd day both the base and handset unit stopped working!

If trying to make calls, it would not connect from either units. When callers called me, I could hear the ring, but not the caller! Yuck. Next time I'll pay more attention to reviews here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I used my cordless in my attic!!!! It has been wonderful in our household!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a great phone.Don't listen to the naysayers...
I bought the black version of this phone about a year ago and I have to say that I'm extremely pleased with it.The corded unit looks so good it's practically a work of art and it's backlit LCD screen is by far the most clear/legible that I've ever seen. All of the buttons on both the cordless and base units are very responsive (no sticking or hard pressing) and the general feel of each phone is very solid. The cordless unit works pretty much flawlessly, but I do have to admit that the reception is not quite as clear as the corded base unit (very few corless phones are). It's still very clear and nothing even noticeable when you're using it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars worth every penny!
I bought one of these on a lark, not expecting it to live up to expectations. After trying it out, I went and bought one for every phone in my house and bought 2 for my parents as well. Now that I've registered my phone w/ the Federal "Do Not Call" list, I almost never get telemarketer calls anymore, but they do occur.

When you get a call from someone you don't want to hear from, simply press the button on this device and hang up. It beeps to get the person's attention and says, "Hello, this number does not accept calls of this nature. Please take this as notice to remove this number from your list. Goodbye." The beeping and the message repeat once and then hang up on the caller, freeing you to do other things.

The red LED on the device lets you know that the automated message is still playing. When the person on the other end has hung up or your device has hung up on them, the LED light turns off, so you know it's safe to pick up your phone.

The sound quality of the message is excellent. There are no tapes - just the message on an encoded chip. It's unfortunate that they didn't set up a way to put in your own message - that would be a hoot!. The voice is obviously from someone who does voice-overs for a living - extremely well enunciated and easy-to-understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ZEP-100 Ruined My Life!
I used to be a productive member of society. But recently, I purchased the ZEP100, and now I find myself sitting by the phone day and night, just waiting for a telemarketer to call so I can press that magic button.I haven't showered, gone to the office, or brushed my teeth in weeks. My only fear is this device may work TOO well, and eventually I will not get any more calls. I hope I will still have a job.

The ZEP100 actually exceeded my expectations (how often does that happen?).I assumed I would at least have to pick up the phone and engage in conversation with the telemarketer. But luckily, I have Caller ID, and luckier yet, the ZEP-100 will work even without lifting the phone from the hook.

When an incoming call shows "UNAVAILABLE" on the Caller ID unit, I simply press the button. The phone stops ringing and the recording plays twice. And that's a key feature: Most calls are generated by a computer, which does not switch the line to a human salesperson until it hears a voice.By repeating the message twice, the ZEP100 guarantees that someone will hear the entire message, even though the first few seconds may be playing to deaf ears (the computer).

Even if you don't have Caller ID, you need not have a conversation with the caller. If you say "hello" and do not hear an immediate response, you know you've been called by a computer. At that point, simply press the button and hang up (in that order!).

My only very minor complaint is the chintzy strip of weak double-surface tape supplied with the device. It didn't stick very well to the caller-ID box.So I simply cut a larger piece from higher quality stock.

My conclusion:If you dislike telemarketer calls, the ZEP100 is a MUST-BUY device. It's inexpensive and it WORKS!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Relief
I use this device almost every day. Because I work out of my own home, several different phone numbers funnel into my home. So I get a range of unwanted solicitations.
Installation was extremely easy. It worked immediately.
I still try and tell the salesperson that I am not interested, but if they don't pay atention and continue on their spiel, I hit the button and let the machine take care of it. The message from the machine tells them to take you off their calling list, and maybe even that works, because I don't get calls from stockbrokers anymore, in my experience they were the worst.
In short, its a piece of technology that makes your life easier and lowers your stress level--a rare combination in my experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blast the Telemarketers!
Wow, telemarketers are annoying!I can't tell you how many times I get called each day from some outfit trying to give (sell) me insurance for a low-low rate, or how many "free" vacation trips I have won!I got "caller ID" thinking it would solve the problem, but it hasn't, neither does "anonymous call rejection."So here is a device that allows you to "fight back" at the telemarketers. It plugs right into your phone then you plug the phone line into it.Once your 30 second install is complete, you sit back and wait, it won't be long!Once you get that annoying telemarketer, simply push the button and hang up.They will then hear a nice tone and then told "I'm sorry, this number doesn't accept calls ..."This is the best thing since Caller ID!I liked it so much, I now have one on all my phones!
