5-0 out of 5 stars Best phone I've ever owned!!!
This is the best telephone I have ever owned. The reception is great!!!
(And yes it does have a back light on the clock.)
I love the speaker phone, it works great and anyone I have spoken to using the speaker phone feature informs me I sound clear with no breaking up. I also love the different melodies for the ring tones, it has one that has a soft melody so it doesn't scare me from my sleep if someone calls late at night, or early mornings. Not having to run wires to a telephone outlet is another great feature too. Just plug it in your wall and register it to the base unit and your in business. It works great all around the house even the basement.
I very happy with it!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone
I had no choice but to go 5.8 because the 2.4 phones were causing my wireless internet to drop. And the reason I went with this set is because I switched to vonage and did not want mess with the existing phone wiring. So I bought this phone system with 3 additional handsets. They work great. And the clock is back lit. I don't see brightness settings but the default backlit setting is good enough to make seeing the clock in the dark easy. And the ability to store 5 radio stations and have alarm clock functions is great. I do have one handset not registering though. I am working with Panasonic on that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes there's a bnacklight and it's a great phone
I have to admit, I almost did not get this expansion handset for my panasonic phone set-up.The previous reviewer said that it did not have a backlight for the clock, that is not true.I have it set up next to my bed and the backlight has two intesity levels. So, now I have a great 5.8 gig phone with a nice little clock radio/alarm.I'mhappy.

3-0 out of 5 stars No back lighting on the clock -- Useless!
i was interested in this product but since i has no backlit clock -- no sale. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Junky
I was looking for a handset that would not interfere with 2.4Ghz wireless that has taken over my neighborhood and caused many reception problems. Saw the Motorola 5.8Ghz and thought I'd give it a try after trying out a Panasonic 5.8Ghz which sounded like I was talking through atin can. Unfortunately Motorola was just a bit better on sound quality, but not much. The last part of every word gets cut off. I couldn't go far from the base without loosing signal and the volume was low to medium. Battery life was marginal at best.I am slightly hard of hearing, (but have perfect pitch) so having a little more juice in this department would be good. The features are okay but, layout and interface are primitive compared to other phones in this price range. I guess the3rd time is the charm because I ended up finding the5.8GHz Uniden Tru 8860-2 finally with normal human voice quality and volume when needed. The layout and functionality for the features are intuitive and easy where the phone is not drawing attention to itself because of it's quirkieness and low quality audio(Motorola and Panasonic.) Take it from me, if you are looking for a 5.8 Ghz phone, get the Uniden.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too hot!
earpiece on MD71 handset gets uncomfortably hot when in use. the same is also true of base model MD761.

4-0 out of 5 stars No syncronization with the primary handset
As with the MD751 (required to use this expansion phone), this phone offers superior sound quality. In my opinion Panasonic is the best when it comes to sound quality, but this was a close second and was a vast improvement over all AT&T, VTech and GE phones I tried. The features are excellent, including expandability, handsfree/speakerphone, and all the other standard bells and whistles for a top of the line phone. The one feature that seems unique to Motorola is the Area Code Format feature.Among other things, this means that when I get a call from a long-distance area code, it either knows to add a 1 at the beginning or allows me to change the format to do so to facilitate calling back that number without needing to key it in manually.I have not found this on any other phone and it is a great feature. The only problem I have is that there is a lack of connectivity between the expansion units and the base units. Each phone is more or less designed to work on its own, so it is necessary to manually delete caller ID logs from each phone and to store auto-dial and Area Code Format preferences separately as well.Still, this is a great buy even at the high price. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars If you love static, buy this phone.
I have had this phone for a year and a half. It is in a room where it is rarely used. The static is terrible and changing channels doesn't help. I have used it in more than one home with no change in quality. Now I am beginning to have other problems--works in one location and not another. Buy at your own risk.

2-0 out of 5 stars STATIC
I just bought this phone 3 days ago and I have had a problem witht he static coming from the handset while the phone is one the base.It is loud and annoying.I initally liked the way the phone looked and after using it I thought it was a really good buy until the static started. It will be returned today.

1-0 out of 5 stars Intermittant static when on base!
I liked this phone until I got it home. When the handset is sitting on the base, the handset will intermittantly emit static every few seconds - CONSTANTLY.But only when its sitting on the base. I even took it to work and tried plugging it in at my desk and it did the same thing (I live in an older house and thought it might be the 50+ year old electrical - nope!)I've had it for 5 days and its going back tonight.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hello?
This is a great phone! We have two and my daughter loves her purple version!Buy it!

3-0 out of 5 stars skeptic
I purchased mine in May '04. So far no problems but the phone is rarely used. I was going upgrade to additional models but I think I will hold out and see how long this one lasts. I was skeptical purchasing a motorola model after working for a cellular company and motorola's answer to all phone problems was one of three things your carrier, physical damage or water damage. Like I said so far no problems, clear sound and battery lasting a good length of time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Phone!!!
I have always wondered why Cordless phones had to be so big.
Finally Uniden came out with this new line of Cordless flip phones.
I don't know why...but I seem to buy 1 new cordless phone per year.
So, I feel I'm a bit of an expert on nearly every upscale 5.8 phone on the market having tried nearly all of them.
The best thing about this Uniden, and a big surprise to me is the GREAT sound on both receiving and talking. My brother actually told my my Uniden sounds BETTER than my corded phone. The range is very good as well. My only slight criticisim is you can hear YOURSELF a bit too much in the earpiece. I do like to hear a little of my own voice in the earpiece but in my opinion Uniden messed this part up slightly. However I owned the top of the line AT&T and V TECH 5.8 phones. On those you can't hear yourself AT ALL, thru the earpiece. To me THAT was very disconcerting and I felt disconnected while speaking on these phones.
So again The Uniden's overall sound is simply THE best I've heard...
As far as a FUN/feature rich phone I can see no phone being better than this Uniden. It even has little animated animals showing you time duration of phone call etc. I LOVE the downloadable ringer faeture. You can record 20 seconds of GOOD quality sound...and make it your ringer. For me just for fun...I have a Favorite Beatle song as my ringer. You can also assign different ringers to different callers....very useful.
Another nice feature is you can upload your favorite pictures to this phone and use them for the background wallpaper.
I can go on and on...but it's ALL good news with this phone.
I don't think any cordless phone can top this phone now or in the near future. As a side note, Amazon.com is a great place to buy this product! 24 hours after placing my order this phone went on sale at Amazon. A quick note to Amazon... they adjusted my price down to the new lower price...with a very considerate letter from Cus Service. I'm a big fan of Amazon...!
Back to this Uniden...
You will LOVE this phone! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Good phone but zero battery life
Before I mention some of the phone's good qualities, I must state that I too have horrible battery life. This phone, even after replacing the battery, will only stay on for 10-20 minutes. If you leave it off the charger overnight, the next day it will be dead.

The phone, when it does work, has good sound quality during calls. The plastic buttons are large but they are too smooth and slippery. I would prefer a more silicone-like material and grip to them.Menu system is easy to use.If it weren't for that major battery problem, this could be a 4 or 5 star phone. This phone should come w/ a corded phone to use while your phone is charging.

1-0 out of 5 stars I wish I had read these reviews before I spent the MONEY!!!!
It seems as though most of the people that wrote a review have the same exact problem that I have had with our phone... I researched this purchase thoroughly, and felt that even though it was very expensive, it had all the things we needed in a phone for our home. Soon after setting it up (within 3 months of purchase) we began having problems with the phone keeping a charge. We were going to buy a new battery, but decided to call panasonic customer service to see if they had any information about it. Pat answers... the said that they would send us a new battery and that should solve the problem. We waited and waited and waited, no battery came so we called and called and called...now we had to leave our information on a service and someone would get back to us, no one did.... still no battery!!! I couldn't believe it and I was so sick of the situation I went online to see if I could get some answers there... I was sure there had to be some type of recall or something, I mean this thing didn't work!Within 24 hours a tech emailed me back saying that I should send the unit back to Panasonic and they would check it out, if there was a problem they would send me a new (refurbished) unit, since it was under warranty (covered for the first year, which if you think about it is really rediculous, shouldn't it work for at least a few years?) I decided to send it in. I had to pay to send it to Texas, and there was a problem, (I was relieved, at least there was something they could do about it!) so they sent me a whole new system (refurbished!)... the new (refurbished!) unit only comes with a 90 day warranty, which is about how long it took for the problems to arise again... within a few months, the phone began to cut out after about 20 minutes of use, and now, it barely holds a charge for more than afew minutes... I have also had the same problem with the display saying to move closer to base, when I have been standing right in front of it... so basically it is worthless... the worst part? I still need a phone and this is the only one that has all the options we need... so I called Panasonic and I emailed them too, they said that for a charge (not cheap) they will look at it and see what is wrong.... etc, basically the same thing as before, are they kidding? I won't be buying from Panasonic ever again... I was pissed off before when it was just my phone, but knowing that so many people are having the exact same problem really is aggravating. I can't believe that they do not stand byt their product and I have no confidence in their company as a result. I will never, ever buy from Panasonic again!!
I wouldn't if I were you either!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice features, terrible battery, quality problems
Had this phone for 1.5 years. Like features, i.e. directory that can be shared and sent across the base unit and a handset or ability to correct a number before dialing it (like in a cell phone).

From the very beginning battery life was a problem. It was around 1-1.5 hour talk time. Do not even think about having a conference call with this phone. It got worse and worse and currently I get ~30-40 min. talk time after charging for more than a day. My very old 900MHz Uniden gives me around 5-6 hours of talk time.

Sometime after using a phone for ~6 months LCD display on the handset started failing when the battery is fully charged. After talking on the phone for a few minutes display starts working again. The problem is that you need display when you are dialing.

The sound quality is OK. It is not better than analog 900Mhz Uniden but not worse.

I was pleasantly surprised than I do not get any interference with WiFi 802.11 B/G network.

Very disappointed in quality of implementation even though like features in this 2-line phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PHONE SYSTEM, one MAJOR failing
I love it, but- today I discovered, you cannot change the outgoing (greeting) messaging from remote access.

I needed to put in a temp message, and it's just not possible from anywhere but at the base/at home...

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad batteries small display
Worked (OK) for a couple months. Batteries got progressively short charge. Display is so small and poorly lit. Tried to contact tech support - no response. Hard to find a good pickle! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent phone for the price...some flaws.
I was so excited when I purchased this phone. We had 2 Panasonic 900MHz cordless phones. We LOVED these, but we decided that it was time for an upgrade. For the price, you get 3 phones that have good reception and AT&T quality as far as durability is concerned. They are attractive and a decent buy overall. My main problem is that the base does not allow transfer of info to the other handsets (ie phone books), you have to manually put numbers in each one of the handsets. There is no message waiting indicator light if you subscribe to the phone company's voicemail. The indicator is for the answering machine connected to the phone (which I don't use). If you choose to take the clock display off, the phone shows the handset number(which for some reason is annoying to me!).Also, the time doesn't automatically set. You have to set the time on each phone seperately. Again, the At&t phones look nice and have some good features, but the problems are what have made me give this a not so perfect review.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disposable
I have the base and three other handsets.Best I can say is that they work. The problems would seem to have simple solutions--they must have rushed this to market without putting on the finishing touches.
Problems:
(1) The handsets don't synch with the base with respect to time, caller ID, and memory dialing. You have to repeatedly set the time on each handset. And caller ID only records on the handset where you take the call.Same issue with memory--who wants to punch inmemory dial numbers on 4 separate handsets.
(2) The text on the screen (numbers, letters, and a digitied analogue clock) look very Atari.
(3) The controls on the base simply stink--not intuitive and somewhat clumsy.
Pros:
The system isn't that expensive.Buy it, keep it for a couple of three years, and dispose.

2-0 out of 5 stars functional but not perfect
I had a Sony multiple handset phone that I LOVED.Unfortunately, I found, when I moved into a bigger house, that the phone had been discontinued, and I could no longer get additional handsets for it.

I purchased the AT&T 5840 to replace it, and I suppose my disappointment with the handsets is probably more based on the fact that they pale in comparison to the former Sony ones, than that there is anything intrinsically wrong with them.

My primary complaints with the handsets are these:

1. The blue light that indicates that the handset is charging is bright enough to make it hard for me to get to sleep at night.

2. The caller ID lists incoming calls strictly based on what the phone company has in their system (i.e. "Cellular Call" instead of the name of the caller). The Sony phone would display a name for any number I had stored in memory (so if I had stored a number as "Annoying Guy" that is what the caller ID would say when that person called - and of course it also displayed my friends' names or nicknames as I had entered them too). This was particularly useful for me, as I have a terrible memory for numbers, and need a name in order to know who is calling. This is the feature I am most disappointed about losing.

3. The phone does not automatically store caller ID numbers in a format that allows me to call back with a single button press. In order to call a person back from the caller ID feature, I have to hit CID, then OPT #, and then select the appropriate number format.Although this process is not excessively difficult, it's annoying when I used to have a phone that allowed me to simply hit 'talk' to call a person back.It is also more difficult due to issue number 4 below.

4. The menu buttons 'wear out.'After regularly using the menu buttons for about a year, I have found that it now requires me to really push them hard, and sometimes several times, to get them to work.

I would recommend this phone to people who a) have a great memory for numbers and don't need a name listed on the caller ID and b) people who don't push buttons often. It does what a phone is meant to do, and so far, aside from the failing button issue, I have had no maintenance issues with it.I just became spoiled with all the features of my previous phone, and this one just doesn't come close in comparison.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect phone!
I'm fussy about small buttons, hard to program menues, poorly lighted dials....this phone has none of that! The talking caller ID on the base unit is terrific and the plug in add-on units are very convenient.Very good reception, easy to use call log...I like this phone a lot!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad cordless phone
We bought this phone with the hopes of having one corded phone (in case of power outages) and one cordless phone. The cordless phone works intermittently. It does not matter how close or far you are from the base, sometimes the volume just cuts out.It does not hang up on the person you are talking to, just the volume acts as if it drops down to "1" and you can't hear what they are saying. We now can only use the corded phone.

In the past I have been very happy with Uniden, I will be returningthis phone perhaps for a Motorolla. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My 8825/8800 is great
My Siemens 8825 works great as did my Siemens 2420.Besides working very well mine have proven to be very rugged. The handsets are my 2-year old grandaughter's favorite toys. She has pushed every button on on all four of them, dunked one in a cup of juice, and threw one onto the tile floor. They all still work fine.I wouldn't buy any other brand.

I've had expensive Sony and Panasonic phone systems that didn't even come close to the Siemens.

I agree with the other satisfied Siemens owners here--if reading directions for electronic equipment isn't your forte a simpler system might be for you.One question--Why the heck has the 8800 handset price increased from $65 to $200?

1-0 out of 5 stars Siemens 8825 2.4 Gig. Base for Corded 8800 System
I agree with most of the comments I have read on this web page about the 8825 system.I owned an earlier 2420 system and it was the best.I bought a used 8825 system with 4 handsets. The sound clarity is terrible.Range is not as good as earlier 2420 system.Terrible clicking sound on all handsets.Despite all of these issues, however, the most terrible problem is that when the base system (8825) is fried by a storm or surge, there is no way to use the cordless handsets (I have 4).There is no way to repair them and Siemens has no answers or tells one where to get service.Siemens told me when they get one back that is under warranty, they send out new ones.I told the technician that they have to know who fixes the refurbished phones but they claim they do not.So, I had to spend another $250.00 to get another used base system in order to use my 4 cordless phones. No technical repair support has caused me not to ever consider Siemens phones again.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY SEIMENS PRODUCTS THEY ARE UNRELIABLE, NO SUPPORT
Do yourself a favor and don't buy any Siemens product.Their phone systems are VERY UNRELIABLE (I have two and they both have failed). The customer support is COMPLETELY USELESS.I called when my 4015 started blinking and didn't work. They said, "It appears to have failed, buy a new base station".When I asked about repairs they said "We don't repair them, you have to buy a new base station".I said I wasn't going to give them any more of my money and their support sucked. They said "go ahead, your choice".BE WARNED.

If I could givem them 0 stars, I would.

3-0 out of 5 stars Handy, but very complicated to learn.
I've been using this phone for over year now and it work. However, I cannot say it was easy to use this products. Buttons are small for one and instruction on each mobile unit is not very clear.

If you are considering cordless two line phone, try to get the manual for this unit before buyign. Or check out panasonic.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy these...if there's wireless anywhere near
I have a set of three Siemens 2.4 GHz phones (my mistake to buy all at once). They have had problems from Day One.I have had to return them to Siemens -- only to get the same problems back.None of their recommended fixes have worked. And worst of all, customer support has been atrocious.I recommend not buying these.I bought two other 2.4 Ghz phones from AT&T, and they have been flawless in the exact same environment. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very good but not perfect
I left a full review of the system under the Uniden CLX485, but I wanted to rate the handset as a standalone item.It would be a 4.5 if that was possible. It is a very slick handset with lots of great features.Plus, you can update much of the info on the base model and have it transfer to the handset, which is very convenient. The battery life is also fantastic so far (although I've only had it 1 month). It is easy to get your messages off of each handset and it is easy to page each handset as you can individually label it (basement, kids room, etc). The biggest drawbacks are the ring tones (1990 cell phones come to mind) and the range. The sound quality is fine but the range is not as good as the 2.4 GHZ.We used to be able to be down our block a decent distance without a problem, now we can barely leave the house and the phone becomes only static. Not a huge drawback as we don't take the phone outside, but it is a concern to some people.Overall, we like the handsets quite bit. 4.5 out of 5. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Worst customer service experience
The service itself is a little below expectation. Esp when
making int'l calls, often broken up, or need to call couple
times in order to connect. The customer service is really
bad. The CSR is so rude that I can't even finish describing
the issue. And when requested to talk to a supervisor, he's
basically won't do it. After I insist and another long hold,
only then able to talk to a not-so-helpful supervisor. And they
actually delete your account from their system when you cancel
the service. Now they need to charge me
for the disconnect fee, but since they have deleted the account,
they cannot charge my credit card (they only tell me AFTER taking
my credit card information!). And now they need me to send in a
check. And no detail on what to write on the check, what
should be the payable to, what number to write etc, nothing.
A very bad business model, plus not-so-good technology, and
very bad customer service. I should sell my 8x8 stock.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works.

Intro:

Packet8 is one of the leading VOIP companies. They have one of the largest selections of rate centers, and were among the first to offer E911. They offer a phone number in whatever area code you would like, provided that it is available, and offer additional"virtual numbers" in other area codes, for $5 a month. The features included with this plan are very similar to other offers, but Packet8's price is still cheaper than the rest.

My Experience:

When a member of my family had to move to another state for months, I realized that the phone bill was going to go up. I started looking at alternative options, I decided I either could use calling cards, at a few cents a minute, or I could run up my phone bill. I decided that neither was a good option, so I was going to have to be content with speaking to them a few times a week. When I was browsing some broadband forums, I stumbled accross VOIP forums, and after a little bit of reasreach, I found that I could get unlimited long distance and all of the feautures I had never had for only $20.00 a month! I think this is an exceptional deal.

I placed my order for the DTA from Amazon.com on a Friday evening, and it arrived Tuesday. Ordering from them gave two months free, and a $60 rebate, which will reduce the cost of my DTA to -$4.00. The DTA arrived in a well decorated box, that protected the DTA well. (...)

Once the main box is opened, there is smaller box inside, with all of the components wrapped in bubble wrap. (Not pictured, as these pictures were taken a few days after I had unpacked the equipment)

The items in the box included the DTA, a phone cord, power cord, power adapter, ethernet cable, startup note, tips sheet, and an invoice.

After I took the DTA out of the box, and plugged in the power, the power light immediately turned on. I next plugged the ethernet cable into a free port of my router, and the Link light tuned on .I then connected a phone, and picked up, to find a dial tone. When a number was dialed, a packet8 recording telling you the URL to activate your service was heard. I went to the web address supplied in the recording, which matched the instructions on the sheet, and was told to enter my MAC address that was found on the bottom of the DTA. When I entered my MAC address, it returned an error which is shown below.

I tried three times, and each time the same error came up. I then placed a call to packet8 support, who answered after a few rings. I had no hold time at all. They confirmed my MAC address, and changed something in their system. I then tried again, and was put through. The problem, so far as I can tell, was caused by me buying it through Amazon, and the DTA must not have been registered properly in their system. After I had filled out the required billing information, I paid an activation fee, and printed my account details. I then picked up the phone, and placed a long distance call with perfect quality. I felt that the quality was almost as good as my land line, if not better. I did not have to configure anything special on my router, the DTA was truly "plug and play". The phone light turns on steady when the phone is in use, and flashes while it is ringing.

After making several calls over a few days, I am almost satisfied with the Packet8 service. There are however some issues. One day, I placed a long distance call, and suffered horrible quality, and lost the call. When I checked the call log, I had 12% packet loss. However this was not Packet8's fault, as it was my internet connection. After a quick reboot of modem and router, everything was working perfectly again. In normal calls, I lose about .2% packets, but this may or may not have something to do with Packet8. This does not cause any quality problems though. The voicemail works reasonably well, except for the timestamp is sometimes off. I do wish we had the name on the Caller-ID, as we currently only have the number. After I was satisfied with the service, I went outside and unplugged my land line from the box, and marked it clearly. (Well, clearly as the 10 year old child I let do it could)

Then I connected my DTA to the wall outlet, and all phones were powered. I am able to hear people clearly with four phones up, which is all I have use for at this time. As for the quality, long distance calls sound much better, and local calls are loud and clear, people say they notice an increase in quality. The quality is much better than cellphones, and I can confirm it sounds better than my old landline.

My only real problems with the service, so far, is the fact that 911 will not work perfect, and if I lose power, or my internet breaks, I will not have phone service to call and have it fixed. Out of the 7,000 min. I have used so far, less than 50 have had a problem, which is equal to less than 1 percent. I love that the billing is done online, and they just bill my credit card each month. When a visitor used the phone, and forgot to dial one, it was billed as an international call, but when I called Packet8, they credited my account quickly. I haven't had any major outage problems as of yet, just waiting to see when new featues are coming out.

The picture below shows you the Packet8 billing interface, which lets you view your bills for each month, and what you have ordered in the past.

Below is a shot of the call log. Very handy to see who called where, when, and for how long.

Next we have a picture of the settings that you can change in our account.

1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL!!!
I signed up for Packet 8 after reviewing the services online and finding pretty good reviews for this service and the price.I also liked that they had the enhanced 911 service. What a mistake! After I activated my account the company sent me an email to tell me that E911 was NOT available in my area after they said it was when I checked online.3 days after I activated I still didn't have service.Family and friends were calling on my cell phone to tell me that the message said I had a disconnected phone. When it was working, the service would drop out in themiddle of conversation.I do NOT recommend this service. When I called the cancel, I waited about 10 mins and got a rep.He was very nice and helpful and didn't make me feel bad for canceling.I have now signed up with Optimum Voice and love it!It's worth every extra penny.

1-0 out of 5 stars Packet8 might just have the worlds worst customer service...
OK- so on April 20th- we trotted out & bought the packet8 set up.We followed the set up step by step... and waited. And waited. It's nice that they gave us 2 free months of service - because our local number STILL hasn't been set up.They haven't contacted us- or returned our email(s) to them. When I check out account on their site- all I see is "Pending" for the number porting...

Today I contacted them & was told there is some form they need-and the set up process *should* have prompted us to complete it.SO I was annoyed- but wait for it.....this form is nowhere to be found on their site. They couldn't find - I couldn't find it.It was like some kind of joke. And the whole time all I got from their customer support is " I understand"NO- you DONT!I am still paying for my home phone and in a couple of weeks- will be paying for theirs as well!

When I mentioned that we had emailed 3 weeks ago & hadn't gotten a response- my thinking here was this could have been resolved 3 weeks ago.. she couldn't find any email... and said to me " Well, I'm not saying you're lying.. but we don't have this email..."Uhhh-YEAH-I think you ARE saying I'm lying- despite having a printed out copy of the email in my hand!

And this is just to get us set up- just to give them our business!I can't imagine when we have a real problem with the phone- god help us!

ANYWAY-If you are prepared for headache after headache- have at it.If I had been more aware of their heinous customer service- I would have thought twice!

You've been warned... ;)

Amazon.com Product Description

Ever feel like you need a second phone? The KX-TG2344B from Panasonic may be the solution, since it's packaged with a second handset and charging cradle. It also comes with a built-in answering system, helping you to consolidate all your communications needs in one easy-to-use machine.

The all-digital answering machine has a 15-minute maximum recording time and can be operated remotely, allowing you to stay on top of your incoming messages even while you are away from home. You can set the outgoing message length to one, two, or three minutes, while voice prompts guide you through operation of the answering system. An LCD call counter lets you know how many messages you have waiting, and a time/date stamp lets you know when each message was received. Additionally, all messages are stored in Flash memory, so if you ever experience a power outage, your messages will be there when you get back up and running.

Caller ID and call waiting compatible, the KX-TG2344B stores up to 30 incoming names and numbers. The log is easily accessible via the handset LCD, while a 32-number phone directory helps you to keep track of all your most frequently used phone numbers. A new message indicator lets you know when you have messages waiting, while a low-battery indicator lets you know when to return the phone to its cradle for recharging.

If you are running short on countertop space, fret not, the KX-TG2344B is wall-mountable. Handset and ringer controls allow you to adjust volume levels to your liking, while an illuminated keypad makes dialing a snap, even in the dark. Headset compatible for hands-free communication, this phone also comes with a belt clip. A page/handset locator lets you easily find a lost handset, and voice paging from the base allows you to communicate with both handsets at the same time. An intercom function lets you talk between handsets or between a handset and the base, while three-way conferencing allows you to communicate with multiple parties at once.

By transmitting on the 2.4 GHz band and utilizing a digital spread spectrum signal and Panasonic's voice enhancer technology, this phone is able to offer clearer reception and greater range than many older cordless phones. Easy-to-use and packed with useful features, the KX-TG2344B also comes backed with a one year limited warranty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good quality/reasonable price
We bought this phone about 6 months ago and it's met all my expectations since then.Sound come through clearly and I enjoy the features it has - answering machine, caller ID, speakerphone, dual handsets. It was easy to set up and it's easy to program. From what we found, it was very reasonably priced considering all the features, and dual handsets makes it like 2 phones for the price of one!I'm very happy with my purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dead after 3 months
I was actually quite happy with the phone regarding features and reception, until this week! Realizing that I have not heard the phone ring for a couple(?) of days, I glanced at the base unit to see if everything was alright. There I spied no lights at all glowing. I checked the outlet for power, and then the power transformer from the phone- both were working fine. Re-read the instruction manual for any reset tips, but the base unit was dead. I have 3 other Panasonic phones in the house, but this model is the first dud I have ever had from this company.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great deal on great phone.
We've had this set for a few months now, and it works great. Always clear, never drops, works all around the house and out to the street. Handset-to-handset conference function is definitely a plus. I'd recommend to anyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars So Far I Love It
This phone is everything my Uniden wasn't. Easy to set up, easy to use, good sound on the handset speakerphone. I can use it out in the yard. Plus it's a little longer, so that when I hold it to my ear, the mouthpiece is near my mouth, instead of the middle of my cheek. What a concept! Also, coolness: there is a red ring-shaped LED on the top of the antenna, which lights up when you have a message on the answering machine (or when you push the "find handset" button on the base unit.) Anyway, I think it's a very good unit, I hope it lasts. My old, tank-tough Uniden lasted many years, the new Uniden replacement only lasted a few months, died twice, and the second time, Uniden wanted 48 bucks to fix it, even though it was still under warranty. To heck with that.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible reception
We bought this phone system knowing that Panasonic is a decent brand, but were completely disappointed. The phones have a terrible static noise and calls fade in/out. I looked in the manual for troubleshooting tips and it suggested moving the phones away from other electric devices, which I did, but it didn't help at all.

What good are all the other great features if the basic reception is not there?

5-0 out of 5 stars Does everything its supposed to
I bought this as a reconditioned phone via an amazon re-seller.

If you have two lines at home, this is the phone for you. (Assuming you can find one).

It's sound quality is fine and given its relative complexity, it is easy to use.If it has the features you are looking for, go for it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this phone
This phone will cut off your callers when they are leaving a voice-mail (see other reviews to see that this is common). It appears that it is dectecting tones in the callers voice which triggers the phone to think you are trying to access your voice mail.

Avoid this phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad phone, poor customer service
The answering machine cuts off messages. After three months use static came on the line with each use.House telephone lines checked out; we were told phone was defective.Customer service of no use.Avoid this phone and avoid AT&T "service".

5-0 out of 5 stars AT&T 2462 Saves drowning poodle!!
Actually - No.But this phone system has been with us for over a year now, and the quality and features still impress us.Many of our clients don't recognize when they are speakerphone, and the feature-set - for a two-line phone - is impressive. The menu system for speed-dial can be a bit bothersome - but works fine, once you are used to it.One feature we would have liked to see, is a way to add 'hold music'...but this is a minor peeve.

2-0 out of 5 stars AT & T Model 2462
The voice quality is GREAT.The answering system, cuts off messages.AT&T support is terrible.Sent replacement...it failed also...sent upgrade model E2562,(with wrong remote units - which had be returned for the correct ones)...now line one is disconnected when put on hold to answer line two.It has been 10 months of dealing with a very poorly run customer service department. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Try to get one not two...
I don't have the two set but I do have this phone.I understand many people are not happy with this phone. But, I can say we have had our own which is exactlly the same only it is one phone not two for about two years. And we talk quite a bit so replacing the battery once is not too bad.I would recommend going to Walmart as they sell this same phone and you can get one phone. It works fine for us and even looks great still. We charge it over night and can get a full use of it all day.I also love the Caller ID fucntion as it still is crisp and sharp.I don't personally have a problem with my phone in hearing on it, yet, maybe they changed something on the dual one.My recommendation, try looking around to see if you buy this phone indivudually we got ours a walmart and a friend of mine also recently got the same phone at walmart so I know they still sell it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Reasonable phone
I've been using the previous model (DXI-386-2) for a couple of years, and one of the handset stopped connecting to the base. Giving the going price, I bought this set as a replacement. It is one advantage of having the low price phone: one won't go heartbreak if it stopped working.

This phone set has only basic functions according to today's standard. The multi-line LCD display does help on dialing even if one doesn't need CID. Nothing fancy here and nothing wrong. Note that the two handsets can't be used at the same time for conference, but transfer from one handset to the other is allowed.

The battery life is good. I never measured exact talk time, but it seems to be able to support full-day talking.

The sound quality is pretty good, but there are occasional clicking noise even not too far away. The range is not great inside the house. In theory, this 900MHz phone should work better in obstructed setting compare to higher frequency phones (2.4G and 5.8G). It doesn't fare that well though, for the both model versions I have. In short, it doesn't cover the whole house well for me (noise gets higher when away from the base). The new model also get complains from the other side of the line for soft voice, which was not a problem in the older version. Overall, however, it is acceptable quality and when I say it doesn't cover the whole house well, it does cover the whole (medium size) house, nevertheless. At this price range, I think this may even qualify as a great deal, depend on your expectation.

I have a 5.8G (digital) phone which beats this one on range and noise level, but more expensive. I don't have a 2.4G phone to compare with (I use wi-fi network, so trying to avoid 2.4G).

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Phones with a potential problem
I recently purchased these on Amazon 'coz I needed a decent 900Mhz phone and this was the best priced one especially w/ dual handsets. The reviews on Amazon for this unit led me to try 'em out. Worked fine for the 1st week and then I lost dial tone on the voice portion of my phone line while the DSL was working fine. The SBC repair technician checked everything and said the he had seen this particular problem numerous times especially where Uniden cordless phones were involved. He said that sometimes the phones don't hang up the line as they're supposed to even after you press the "End" button. This causes a "short" on the line resulting in loss of dial-tone on the voice portion. After my line started working, the dial tone was lost again the following day (in less than 24 hours) and this time the DSL is also down. I'm waiting for the repair technician to come back to diagnose the problem. If it turns out that the Unidens are causing this, I'm going back to the Panasonics. I like the Uniden look, form factor and price and am hoping they're not the culprits. Will post a followup review once I diagnose this problem completely.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good phones for the price.
** You can NOT use both handsets at once **

I wasn't aware of this when purchasing the phones. Although it isn't enough of a reason for me to return them, I think it needs to be stated clearly. You can only use one handset at a time.

Otherwise I have been happy with the clarity of the calls as well as the battery life. The caller ID with call waiting is also quite a bonus. The phones are easy to use and the reception is great! Too bad you can't use both at once!

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor sound with headset
When used with a headset I can barely hear the other person.
Adjusting the volume only seems to increase the sound of the ambient room noise that the mic pics up.
    I'm NOT happy.
I've tried 2 different model headsets. Both behave the same.
The headsets have excellent sound quality and volume on a Toshiba phone I've been using for awhile.
I should have bought locally..... ... Read more

    2-0 out of 5 stars so-so product
I decided to buy the v-tech phone after reading many positive reviews, but I was unimpressed with it and decided to return it.On the plus side, the hand-set speaker-phone is handy and has fairly good sound quality, and the dual hand-sets are a nice feature. However, I found the sound quality very poor - there was often a hissing noise as well as echoing. Also, the hand-sets would run out of batteries very quickly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Who designed this thing?
I haven't had the best of luck with phones, but this is bad even for me. This isn't a phone so much as a cruel practical joke. Perhaps a twisted experiment to see if people will pay good money to be tortured in their own homes by a small electronic device. A few of my favorite features include:

    1. Poor sound quality
    2. Intermittently cuts out
    3. Randomly forgets numbers in memory and/or caller ID
    4. Beeps loudly and incessantly whenever the battery runs low (usually around 3am)
    5. Sounds the low battery alarm even while sitting in the charger!
    6. Is interfered with by WiFi, baby monitors, or anything else at 2.4GHz
    7. Occasionally refuses to dial phone numbers for no apparent reason
    8. Did I mention the poor sound quality?

Buying this phone is a recipe for disaster. As for me, I'm going back to the tin can and string that worked so well when I was a kid.

    1-0 out of 5 stars Don't....
I purchased this set in October and here it is May, barely 7 mos. later and it has died.I should contact the company, in the meantime I went with GE and will give that a try. I will never ever purchase V-Tech again. It started with a stuttered dial tone and eventually we could not use it at all.We tried new batteries, re-setting the whole system - nothing worked.Fried.Major thumbs down.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad...
I was an owner of the Vtech model 20-2420 with two handsets and a master base. That was until recently when my rotten cat decided to chew on the end of one of the antennas. Enter my search for a replacement. I knew I wanted the exact same phone, but realized too late that the 20-2420 was discontinued. Pricing a "like new" used/or refurbished model from a stranger didn't seem to appealing, so off I went in search of another similar V-tech model. Along came the ev2625 while on an excursion to Target. I concour that the quality of plastic used on this model is not up to par with that of the 20-2420 or similar models. However, I doubt I will engage my friends and neighbors to a blindfold test and play "which phone feels like it's made of better quality plastic". I believe that part of the low price also has to do with the fact that these phones use regular rechagable batteries, instead of the expensive nimh nicads that the other models usually come with. The phone can get a little warm when sitting in the base for long periods of time, yet I don't see any harm in leaving it off the charger overnight once in a while. Sound quality does not appear to be an issue, as I have made numerous calls from this new phone with nary a "Can you hear me now?...Good" comment. The orange hue that the phone lights up to(annoying, but will get used to) reminds me of a Pontiac Bonneville STS dashboard at night. Aside from these niggling nuances, this model has everything my other model did at almost a third the price. Score!

1-0 out of 5 stars piece of crap!
well, I've had my phone roughly two weeks and at first, it was all smooth sailing. worked well.

suddenly, after a week of use, the extension refused to let me pick up the phone when it rang--I would hear no dial tone, no friend's voice, just a beep, like a busy signal.

things worsened. crazy static started to kick in. the phone will constantly ring once, than when I try to pick up nothing. or worse, it will claim the line is in use and won't disconnect for several minutes. then--happy thing--it rings just once. as it to let you know it's done. it's starting to drive me to distraction, as I'm feeling a little like a character out some psycho-thriller movie with all this crazy ringing.

I have consulted the user's manual and the vtech site for aid in getting my phones to work. neither is much help (remove the batteries?). I've removed the batteries so many times to try and resolve this, my thumbs are sore.

I have called customer service and they are apparently closed till nine in the morning on monday. I'll try and report back with good news.

or maybe I can report about the return policy? ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of garbage! Don't waste your time & $$ !!!
Brought this phone at Wal Mart, Plugged it in. As others here said (I am not sure why I tried my own luck!) this was not even worth the hassle to take it back, I might just put it straight where this belongs!

It turned out exactly true what others wrote here: the volume is extremely low. Bad reception with all kind of noises. People could hardly hear me on the other end talking.

I wonder how a decent company can make such a bad product? I hope they don't manufacture cars or airplanes one day or we'll all be in trouble...!

I truly wonder why the companies are manufacturing such garbage lately? I believe it is true what some say, that they want you to come back and purchase a new phone each year! I once tried returning the unit to the company; you won't believe what a hassle they gave me!

I already brought for just 5$ more at Target a Motorola, which works much better! I will stick with that.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good phone, but no Mute
I've had this phone for about three weeks and the reception to the base station is good, with some minor interference across multiple floors in a fair size home.Other reviews will denote features, so I will focus on my complaints:

This phone has no mute.I do a lot of business calls and during long conferences, I rely on the mute function so that attendees do not need to participate in me pouring my coffee, typing on my laptop, etc.

Also, this phone has an anemic display with only 3 lines of very rudimentary information. It brings back memories of the original LCD watches that offered only minimal information to the wearer.Yes, I owned one...

I have other, more sophisticated, albeit - more expensive phone systems in my home and comparatively, this phone is fairly primitive. If you need only the basics, this is a decent phone, but advances in the technology force me to believe that in this price point, we should get more. In this day of electronic wonders, is it too much for a mute button on a phone costing in the $50 range?

1-0 out of 5 stars Is there anything LESS than 1 Star??
Do NOT buy this phone. It does NOT have the range it claims to have.It doesn't work and now I have to buy a new phone...again!

1-0 out of 5 stars Cheap Feeling and Lousy Range
Undoubtedly the worst phone I have ever owned!Despite promises of crystal clarity and long range, I can't really leave my 20 sq.ft. office without a lot of interference-- and I live on a farm with very little in the way of electical interference!

Our old 900mhz phone has better range and clarity and doesn't feel so cheaply made.I still use that for 'important calls.'The earpiece speaker on this phone is a loser--I get much better quality on my Sanyo cell phone.

Whoever the 'electronics fan' who wrote two rave reviews for this phone is, he or she is certainly a phone-y.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stopped working after 2 months
The range was never good and the phone no longer works...I recommend the $19.99 version! ... Read more
