Amazon.com Product Description

The KX-TG2314W from Panasonic is a 2.4 GHz phone system with several useful extras, including a second handset and caller ID compatibility. By utilizing a 2.4 GHz signal and frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology, the KX-TG2314W is able to offer clearer reception at greater distances than traditional analog phones, while Panasonic's Voice Enhancer technology expands the frequency range of the phone's signal, resulting in cleaner, more intelligible speech.

The caller ID features a 30-number internal memory, while a 30-number phone directory allows you to store your most important numbers internally for easy recall. A display-and-dial feature also allows you to scroll through the caller ID and phone directory lists and dial a number with the touch of a button.

A handset speakerphone is provided, while headset compatibility and an included belt clip allow you to communicate on the phone while performing other daily tasks. An illuminated keypad makes dialing in poorly-lit environments a snap, and the second handset allows you to have telephone extensions in separate locations, without an additional phone jack. Additionally, a wall-mounting option lets you keep your countertop clear from any unnecessary clutter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Durable,Great reception and long battery life after charge
I'm very happy with all the features as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent full featured cordless system
Everything about this system is excellent.

I would also like to point out that, at least for us, the relatively large form factor has turned out to be more comfortable than smaller units that we have tried.

The speaker mode is very clear and has no feedback but, as one reviewer pointed out, better use it in a quiet room. Another minor issue. The speaker phone feature does not appear to be available if the phone is in the cradle.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great phone if you like static
This phone has so much static it is nearly useless. What a piece of junk. The other features of the phone are fine, but what good are they when all you get out of the receiver is a loud roar.Buy this phone only if you don't want to be able to hear the other party.

4-0 out of 5 stars PANASONIC 2.4GHZ DSS CORDLESS PHONE/DUAL HANDSETS
I HAVE JUST RECEIVED THESE PHONES AND SO FAR I AM QUITE IMPRESSED WITH THIS VALUE!
WHEN I SET THE UP THE SYSTEM/PHONES I WAS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY USE THE PHONES FOR CALLS, WITH JUST ONE (1) BAR READING IN THE BATTERY CHARGING AREA.(PHONE SHOULD BE CHARGED FOR 6 HOURS ACCORDING TO PANASONIC.)
-THE ONLY ISSUE THUSFAR IS THAT THE HEARING/EAR PORTION OF THE HANDSET(S) ARE ROUNDED AND SMALLER THAN WHAT I AM USED TO WITH CORDLESS PHONES.
-I FOUND THIS TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE WHILE HOLDING THE PHONE TO MY EAR(S).
IF YOU HAVE VERY SMALL EARS YOU WILL BE FINE. HOWEVER, ADULTS/CHILDREN WHO HAVE 'AVERAGE' SIZED EARS - YOU MIGHT FEEL LIKE YOUR UPPER EAR IS BEING 'CUT' FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD.
-A FRIEND HAS A SIMILAR CORDLESS HANDSET AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME THING. (I CANT BELIEVE I AM WRITING ABOUT EARS!) BUT...THIS IS TRUE.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone Reasonable Price
This has been a great phone, the reception on all three levels of our home. We love the phone-to-phone feature; I can call the 2nd floor from the basement with out having to walk up two flights of stairs. I do have two issues with the phone. One, when I talk on the phone my jaw tends to hit the keypad and of course create beeps. Two, the keypad on one of the phone has a sticky key and I don't recall ever spilling anything on it. But we are happy with the length of the battery and the reception. We've been through many phones and this one seems to be working out great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful product
I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!! It is easy to use and I like being able to see the time without any problem. The phone is sturdy and works great. I don't listen to the radio much but have been pleased when I do. This phone/radio/alarm clock is exactly what I wanted.

4-0 out of 5 stars Small and Convenient
Finally, a phone with a reasonably good radio that doesn't spill over the edge of my night table. The setup for the radio is excellent, each control easy to find even when the lights are out.Only one problem--the compartment for the 9 volt battery designed to save your setup even if there is a power interruption, caused a burning type smell for a half hour after setup. So far, no further difficulty.

I think most people will be happy with this appliance.I discarded two previous similar purchases of phone/radio combos after using this one for the last month.

4-0 out of 5 stars Complementary synergies
Phone + clock radio: it may be a rare combination, but it makes a lot of sense. At the end of the day, I'm too wiped out to stay at my desk and call the kids; and for incoming morning calls, I'd rather answer the phone while I'm in bed half-conscious than half dead after taking a header or two while trying to get to the next room in time.

I had hoped to replace my original GE model (26981GE1), which was compact, understated, and effective.Unfortunately, I've managed to lose the phone in my own house (either the cat took it or I brought it up to the attic--like looking for a copper penny in the Sahara). Concerning some other consumers' complaints about the successor, I'll admit I did find the dual alarm feature useful--whether as a backup alarm or an alternate setting on the days when it's not necessary to answer the bell so early.Unfortunately, not only is this feature missing in the "new and improved" model but the successor is a postmodern eyesore compared to the original.

Besides missing the dual alarm, the new model lacks the radio pre-sets (6) of the original and the convenient, finger-friendly controls. Not only are the controls tinier and semi-concealed, but the verticality of the design leads to less stability: pushing on the tuning button, for example, pushes the entire radio away from the user. So what's the overall "gain"?The current model has Caller ID, which may be worth the trade-off for some consumers.

Despite the review below (under January 20), the only difference between the GE2 and GE3 is color (white vs. silver). Otherwise, the sensitivity and selectivity of the tuner as well as the quality of the sound, though a shade below the original model, are quite acceptable.(I tried the Conair model for twenty bucks but immediately returned it because of lousy radio reception and sound.)

All in all, a fairly unique but useful product, though you may wish to attach your own cord to the phone.

[Since writing the above, I've discovered another positive and negative about the unit: 1. the new model has a paging button on the base, which may prevent loss of the phone; 2. the sensitivity of the radio is worse than I originally thought, confirmed by a side-by-side comparison of the original and new models. If you're counting on receiving that FM station that's 50 miles away, this new model may not pull it in.I'm beginning to think the Caller ID and paging button aren't enough to atone for the negatives.Back it goes.I'm going to scour the attic one more time.]

3-0 out of 5 stars G3 model I recieved is not a dual alarm clock
Contrary to what the one review said about the alarm clock being dual alarmed, she must have gotten a one of a kind phone, or she didn't order the same phone as the rest of us.I verified that I indeed did get the G3 model and it is NOT dual alarm. The worst part of this is when you visit the GE web page it says the phone IS in its online User Manual.Oddly, though, the phone pictured in their online manual doesn't look anything like the one in the Amazon.com web page. The one I got looks like the one in the Amazon.com web page.An even more interesting note; I tried to see if I could get this phone directly from the GE web site (which is really Thomson electronics, not GE), there is no option to place this phone or it's twin black one, into your cart. When I inquired with the Customer Service Department via email I was told that since it is not available to add to your cart then they have probably discontinued this model.Strange that they would still have it listed as one of their current product lines.I found it in the products link, not in the technical support area. This whole ordeal is just very strange; I wonder how many different phones were made and given the same model number? It kind of makes me leary now of GE products.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Product, But No Dual Alarm
I, too, ordered this clock radio phone (Model 26981GE3) expecting a dual alarm as previous reviews and the product manual (viewed from the Amazon link and the manufacturer's website) both indicated. However, because I liked the other features of this clock radio phone, I decided to keep it.The unit is easy to operate and understand, the phone reception is pretty good (a little occasional static but not bad), and the digital numbers are easy to read. I had recently purchased another brand model that had a 2.4 GHZ cordless phone and the reception was terrible so I returned it. The reception on this phone is much better than the other model I tried and I am happy with this one so far! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone for home use
This is the second set I have gotten. This time for my mother. Works well, nice size, easy to set up second phone. Uniden is the only company I can find that gives the option of audible beeping when there is a new message. I wish the sound of the beep could be turned up a little more, but better than just a blinking light. Very happy with my first set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Uniden Unit
So far ive had no problems, Set up was easy, hearing is very clear, no static at all, i love the 2nd handset,Everything was easy to setup on it,and the price was great, alot of other reviews ive read they say nothing but problems, mine is great.
Thank You!

2-0 out of 5 stars It's ok....but I'm replacing it
I got this phone thinking it would be great - the extra handset is a nice feature and I like that part.I have noticed that the battery life is pretty short and once when I was talking the battery died and then my phone never "hung up" - so for 15 minutes I was without a phone and could not pick up any phone in the house to use it.This has happened two times and is soooo frustrating, especially since the other phones in the house that are corded could not be used.

You can't use the 2 phones at once so that is a bit of an inconvenience as well. The reception is ok but it has it's moments.I have had the phone for about 6 months so it's broken in and the honeymoon's over.I am going to replace it, it was a nice try to get a cheaper phone but it's been more trouble than it's worth.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best portables I've bought
I've gone through a lot of portable phones, and especially for the price, this is by far the best. The Caller ID doesn't seem to function, but neither did the previous phone on our system. Great sound, nice having two handhelds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great, great price
I've had this phone system for a month now & I love it.I bought the 900MHz on purpose because the 2.4GHz interferes with wireless 54g routers & I have one.To date, i'm super impressed with this phone. The sound quality is clear & the extension unit works great in my bedroom (which doesn't have a phone line). The answering system is digital so you get a little distortion (nothing like good old tape) but I can live with that. Also, the battery lasts a long, long time unlike my Vtech which dies out in 2 hours.Overall, I highly recommend this product. ... Amazon.com Product Description

The 2231 from AT&T is a 2.4 GHz phone that comes bundled with an extra handset and charging cradle. It also boasts several useful features, including caller ID/call waiting compatibility and an internal phone directory. The 2331 delivers clear, easily intelligible reception with less interference, thanks to transmitting on the 2.4 GHz band and employing frequency-hopping digital spread spectrum technology.

With its 50-number caller ID memory, you can see a list of all recent calls, while a 50-number phone directory helps you to keep track of all important phone numbers. A display-and-dial feature lets you scroll through the caller ID or phone directory lists and dial the displayed number simply by pressing talk. A voicemail message-waiting indicator lets you know when you have new messages (requires a subscription to a fee-based service), while the low battery-indicator lets you know when to return the handset to its cradle for recharging.

The handset LCD menu can be set to one of three language (French, English, or Spanish), and handset and ringer controls allow you to adjust volume levels to your liking. A handset speakerphone combines with headset compatibility to provide hands-free communication options, while an illuminated keypad makes dialing in poorly lit environments a snap. The intercom function lets you communicate with the other handset, and a conferencing feature allows you to speak with multiple parties at once. The redial button lets you easily dial any of the last five outgoing numbers, and the any-key answer function lets you pick up a call by pressing any of the handset buttons. The 2231 also comes backed by a one-year warranty.

3-0 out of 5 stars A lot of great features, but battery power sucks!
This phone has excellent features, including volume controls for the ringer and the handsets themselves, 2 handsets (an excellent idea), the ability to use the handsets as walkie talkies (haven't tried this yet), a 50-number phone book for storing numbers, caller ID, and notification of voice mail (those last 2 only if you're subscribed to the phone services--not for notification of an answering machine message). It feels great in my hand and comes with belt clips and headphone holes. I think that's useful because i hate speakerphone (it also has that), but want to be mobile while speaking.

I have an AT&T answering machine and it's incredibly durable so i hope this will last a long time as well. I left the handsets off the chargers after completely charging them (the manual says 12 hours minimum, i made it 24 to be safe). I used one of them only twice during this time and that one was completely discharged after only 2 days. Since my conversations were not more than about 20 minutes each, most of that time was spent with the phones just sitting around. I'd call that bad charge retention. The other handset seems to be almost fully charged so I guess this only happens when you use them at all.

My cell phone only loses power that quickly if i actually use it a lot. Cordless phone makers should move away from NiMH and replace them with the longer-lasting LiIon batteries. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars So close, but for one fatal flaw
I really liked this phone, it has a lot going for it.However, as other folks noted on here, the handset was useless when I got within 5 feet of the base.Useless!!!At one point I was dialing a number on the handset, and right in the middle of connecting the phone shut off without completing the call at all.Other times when on the handset and sitting at my desk (near the base unit) people said they couldn't understand me at all.Since I need a phone that works while sitting at my desk, I reluctantly had to return this unit.

I purchased a Motorola MD-671, which has no problems with the handset operating near the base unit. For the benefit of other readers, I'll do a compare and contrast of these two phones, as from what I found, if you want a cordless 5.8g phone to use with phone company provided voicemail (as opposed to the digital answering machinge option) then these two models are probably what you want to choose from.To put my review in perspective, I use my phone for my home office.I spend hours at a time on conference calls. This means I need a phone where I can put the base unit on my desk, next to my computer, and it must have a speaker in the base and handset. Most of the time I am sitting at my desk, but the handset has to be able to travel with me around my house, and also must have a speaker in it.

First, I like the panasonic's big number buttons on the base unit.It really makes it easy to dial numbers. The Motorola has very small keypad and is much harder see.

Next, the Panasonic has a nice button that lets you access your voicemail with a single press, allowing you to program your local access number into the phone. One press and it turns speaker phone on and dials into your voicemail.really nice. The motorola doesn't have this option, leaving you to manually dial your vm account. Both systems have a vm light that notifies you when you have vm, both on the base and handset.

The panasonic offers you four different, pleasing songs to choose from for the ringer tone, while the motorola only offers different pitches of the same ring tone - no songs at all. Also, the panasonic default is for both the base and handset to play (ring) with incoming calls.Quite a cacophony when the handset is charging in the base, as they are both going off at the same time, slightly out of synch with each other. The first thing I did was look for a way to shut-off the base ringer. There is none! You can only turn off the handset.I would have preferred the ability to turn of the base (wherever the handset is, I will be, whereas not true with the base). The Motorola does not have this problem, as when the handset is in the cradle only the base rings.

Panasonic has no backup battery charging in the base unit, which means when your handset battery goes dead, your stuck with the base speaker phone. With the Motorola you can purchase an additional battery and stick it in the base unit, so when your handset gets low, you can switch out batteries and carry on.

Speaker phones for both are very clear and loud enough, and both phones have mute for both base and handset, although the mute button on the panasonic base is a little too close to the speaker on/off button. There was a couple times I hit the speaker button when I meant to hit the mute button, thus ending my call when all I wanted to do was mute it.The Motorola has the speaker on/off in the lower middle of the base unit, and the mute is in the upper right lcd display, so no chance of accidentlly hitting it by mistake. The speaker on the handset for both systems were good, although the Motorola was great:nice and loud, I could hear it from the other room! One oddness:The Motorola handset speaker will NOT operate when a headset is plugged into it, while the panasonic will.I usually leave my headset plugged into the handset, but sometimes I want to temporarily put the speaker on while I am doing something. This makes it a pain with the motorola handset.

Phone books:The panasonic has shared phone book for base and handsets, while the motorola has separate ones for each handset as well as the base (If you key a number into the base unit, you will also have to key the same number in each handset as well! That's a pain in my book.)

Range:Both had good range, I could easily walk around my two-story house and never lose signal.

Belt Clip:Motorola handset's battery cover juts out, and you have about 1/16th of an inch space between the belt clip and the battery cover.I found it hard to clip the unit onto my pants, as the battery cover interfered quite a bit.

Misc:Motorola has a time display on the handset, but, oddly enough, not on the base unit (which has a nice LCD display window), while the panasonic has no time display at all. Both displays are clear and easy to read for the most part, with motorola choosing the nice cobalt blue ligthing, while panasonic goes for the more common yellow-orange kind of lighting.

Summary:Overall, both systems appeared to be very nice.If you can handle the handset not working near the base for the panasonic, then I'd say either system is good.

1-0 out of 5 stars Defected Phone
Its true what other reviewers posted, There is a defect with this phone, if you use it within 6 feet of the base it will break up your conversation. Why havent these defective phones been pulled from the Market by Panasonic? Why does Amazon continue to sell these defected phones?

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's the Intercom??
This is a great phone system. My only complaint is the ease of use of the intercom. My very old Panasonic cordless has an intercom that you can push a button from the handset and begin talking, so I can call the kids from anywhere in the house. Otherwise this is a terrific phone system.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good phone with nice features.
SO FAR this phone has been the best cordless phone I have owned. The sound quality has been very good for me.I do not get static or broken communication while on the handsets (I purchased an additonal handset). The speaker phone on the base is not always that clear unless you are right next to the base. The handset reciever's speakerphones are ok though. The best thing about this phone is that it works correctly with my voice mail service through my local telephone company. All other phones I've had do not.In my area FSK is not available.Only the stutter dial tone is available to me.All other phones I've purchase do not monitor the phone line, and most manufactures do not even understand this concept (I contacted others before seeing this Panasonic model). The message indicator lights always work when I have messages and goes off correctly when I do not. Also the range is much greater than previous 900 mhz & 2.4 ghz phones I've had.I would recommend this phone to anyone with voice mail service. However I would not recommend this phone for frequent use of the base for a speakerphone. The talking caller ID is nice, but as I expected it may not announce listings correctly that have initials or abbreviations. The manual discusses this, and it can be turned off if you desire. However, I can always recognize who the caller is even if it does not speak it properly.

1-0 out of 5 stars All thefeatures I wanted but it didn't work.
I have read other reviews that complain about the problematic nature of 5.8 GHs technology, so maybe they are right. In any event, my phone had tons of static from the start. At first I thought my phone line was at fault, but then the phone stopped working entirely. People complained that I was breaking up and impossible to understand. I didn't believe them, so I left myself voice mail messages at work and found out that I was incomprehensible my voice was breaking up so much. I tried an old phone on the same line to discover it was crystal clear, so I knew it was my Panasonic phone and not my phone line. I returned the phone and purchased a 2.4 GHz AT&T phone (I now don't trust the 5.8 GHz.) I had a 2.4 GHz Panasonic phone I loved. I have a Panasonic TV I love. But I now don't trust the 5.8 technology. And I was even more disappointed because the Panasonic phone had all the features I wanted. My new phone doesn't. ... Read more

The E2525 from AT&T is a 2.4 GHz cordless phone system with multi-user expandability, a built-in answering system, and caller ID/call waiting compatibility. By utilizing the 2.4 GHz band and frequency-hopping digital spread spectrum technology, the phone offers clear reception with less interference.

The 40-2421 from VTech is a four-line, multi-user expandable phone system designed for the small office or busy home. It consists of a base unit, which supports up to four phone lines, and one cordless handset. As your needs grow, you can add up to 11 model VT 40-2420 handsets, for a total of 12. Each handset/charger stand can be placed anywhere you have a power outlet, eliminating the need for additional phone jacks and complicated wiring procedures. The intercom feature lets you communicate with other handsets, while the call transfer function provides a convenient way to route incoming calls from one handset to another. The conference feature allows you to communicate with multiple outside parties, or conference-in an additional handset.

The 40-2421 utilizes 2.4 GHz digital spread spectrum technology, which provides clearer reception over larger distances than traditional cordless phones operating on lower bands and transmitting an analog signal. Call-waiting and caller ID compatible, the phone stores up to 50 numbers in memory, while the speed dial feature lets you quickly dial the 20 most frequently used numbers. A headset jack and handset speakerphone offer comfortable hands-free options.

Handset and ringer volume controls are provided, as are both tone and pulse dialing modes. With the auto pick-up setting turned on, you can answer calls simply by removing the handset from its cradle. A visual voicemail message indicator alerts you when you have messages waiting. (Voicemail, call waiting, and caller ID require subscriptions through your local phone company.) The 40-2421 comes backed by a one-year limited warranty on both parts and labor.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, poor implementation
We've been very happy with our VTech 2431 single-line 2.4MHz
phone system for the past few years, so now that we have
three lines this looked like just the right thing.
Unfortunately this system appears to have been designed by a
completely different team. The handsets are very large (too
large to fit into a pocket), the menus are more difficult to
use, the speed-dial feature is extremely clumsy, and the
signal quality is very poor, with lots of hissing in the
background. We've sent this one back and replaced it with a
two-line VTech 20-2431 system, which is much more like the
original 2431 and doesn't suffer from the problems of the
40-2421 series.

1-0 out of 5 stars worst phone ever
Battery is close to dead only after three months. The volume was never good. The worst phone ever bought.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
I started having problems with the battery within 3 months. It is a real dud. I would not advise anyone to buy this phone regardless of the inexpensive price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Update: Short battery life
I rerate this down to 2 stars and suggest buyers look at other models.

Panasonic says the phone's is capable of providing 5 hours of continuous talk time or 5 days on standby per charge. This is not true. My phone is only 4 months old and the batteries now operate at half their advertized life. That's after only about two or three dozen full charge / discharge cycles. Now there's no more than about 2 hours of continuous talk time per charge. This cordless is for light duty use only.

However the phone is very easy to use.The 40 number caller ID feature makes callbacks, editing and storing to its 10station memory easy. The caller's ID appears after the first full ring in the 3 line backlit LCD.

This phone has good audio quality for a cordless,an easy user interface and good transmission range (at least twice that of my antique AT&T cordless). One neat feature I didn't expect was a plug for a headset, which I am using with an earpiece meant fora Nokia cellphone for handsfree use.Another thoughtful feature is the removable belt clip.

Aside from the weak batteries, another (minor) annoyance with the phone is with the half-second delay after pickup for an incoming call before you can actually speak. Otherwise the design and manufacture are typically Panasonic; solid andstylish. Sony makes great phones too but it seems Panasonic's products are generally built a little tougher even if they are not quite as slick.

1-0 out of 5 stars What Battery?
I concur with all comments concerning the battery. What a piece of [...]!Although I don't have this Panasonic model (I have a Panasonic KX TG2215 - unfortunately, a much more expensive model), the battery is equally worthless.I'm on my second (and LAST) battery within a year.I'm giving the phone to my girl friend's elderly mother who doesn't usually spend more than 15 minutes on the phone at a time, which is the absolute outer limits of the in-use-battery charge.I seriously doubt I will ever buy a Panasonic phone again.

1-0 out of 5 stars sucky phone and battery
This phone has sucky performance and the battery life went away fast. Now it hardly keeps a charge. The caller ID takes too long to come up and if I am in my backyard the phone starts ringing way too late.I have people tell me it rang three or four times before I pickup, except that I pick up during the first ring.I am throwing this away. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone - Great System
Our system is nearly 4 years old & continues to serve our needs.Started w/ only base & 1 handset & have added maximum of 3 handsets total.Continue to explore built-in features that add value to the system - ie: Caller ID, Ringer Selection, Intercom, remote paging.

When teenagers leave the phone in some mysterious place around the house, it can be easily found! That's a huge plus.Smart feature!

It's a GREAT system in fact, I plan to find a set for my family out of state because it would be perfect for them.

The only down side is ... it has been discontinued by Panasonic.
The up side, I'm sure they have created an even better system, and batteries are still available. Thanks Panasonic!

Will I run out & upgrade? No way!In fact, if a portion of my system fails, I will likely try to repair it or replace it with like product rather than replace the entire system with something new.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Extra Handset.
I actually purchased this phone a few years ago when it cost a good bit more than it does now and would still reccomend it at teh original price.I moved from a 2 bedroom small condo into a 3000+ sqft house and still have amazing range.I will only caution you that the expandable handset is a must because the ringers aren't very loud and the speakerphone on the base isn't as clear as the new wave of speakerphones. However, the handsfree speaker option on teh actual handset souns just like you are talking on the phone, none of that echo "can you hear me now" effect.

5-0 out of 5 stars We like it so much, we're getting another
Even though the Panasonic KX-TG1050N base phone has been around for years, we're getting an additional handset rather than ditch the base phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great home system
Have the base with 4 extra handsets.Great range - maintains coverage even where a previous 2.4Ghz set failed.Handsets are small but with great keypads and simple operation.Speakerphone works well and handset will stand unsupported on desk when using speakerphone - improving clarity.Only complaint is the LCD screen can be hard to read in certain lighting conditions.Smaller antenna on handset than the newer extended range handsets make them a better fit in the room.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone system!
Great add-on to the 1000N and 1050N bases. As small as a larger cell phone, belt clip is great to keep the phone on your hip while you use the headset.Range is great -- in the city/suburbs I can go a block or two away from my place and it still works fine.Only complaint is that you can not edit any names stored in memory (just the numbers!) so you have to delete the entry and then re-enter it.

ALSO -- the reason I went with this phone is because it does NOT interfere with 802.11b as some of the others, especially Panasonics, do (the Gigarange Extreme interferes). ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
Discounting other negative reviews here, I went ahead and purchased this phone several months ago.A pretty little phone it is.And relatively easy to get up and running.BUT unless you a real phone "techie" and familiar with multiple menus and cursoring back and forth and up and down, this is not the phone to buy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Battery problems are strange, but avoidable
I recently acquired a 2.4Ghz Panasonic cordless phone after seeing one my parents have had the last 5 months and being very impressed with the features. I wanted to post this because I've seen the many reviews complaining of poor battery life.

My question for all the people experiencing problems: Did you leave the phone charging on the base unit while you weren't using it? If so, you should understand this. For whatever reason, these phones appear to be counterintuitively designed so that the battery lasts longer when NOT left on the base unit.

And in fact, my owner's manual for model KXZ-TG2355 states this under the Battery Information section: "If the battery is fully charged, you do not have to place the handset on the base unit until 'Recharge battery' is displayed and/or [the battery indicator] flashes. This will maximize battery life."

So although this is a very strange way of designing a phone (or a battery), it regardless is not something Panasonic doesn't address in its manual, and therefore it can be avoided. Don't leave the phone charging until it needs it! I hope this review will help balance the many complaints from people who advise against getting these phones because their batteries have inexplicably gone dead.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best phones on the market!
I, too, think this phone is terrific.Crisp, clear connections, sleek design, and all the latest features.I would prefer if it had an on/off switch, but other than that, I can't say enough great things about it.I'm actually purchasing a second one for our home!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Panasonic 2 line cordless phone!
I am very surprised to read negative reviews for this phone. I have had it for over a year and have been completely satisfied. Even my elderly parents with poor hearing say they hear me great when I speak on this phone. Just be sure to place it back on the docking station after you complete your calls, so it can recharge. I highly recommend this phone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Issues, issues!
I've had this phone system for about 2 years. I first purchased the base unit and one additional handset.I had to exchange the handset right away because it wasn't working properly, the base unit didn't recocnize it.After that issue was resolved everything worked fine, other than the slight annoyance that you can't turn the ringer off.....
About 6 months ago the #1 stopped working on the handset which is more than just annoying it makes the handset virtually unusable, except when answering calls.I've resorted to using the caller ID/redial feature to make calls to phone #'s with the #1 in them...
I can see now from reading other people's reviews that this is not a unique problem & is obviously an engineering flaw.I'm going to contact Panasonic Customer Service & see where that gets me (hahaha).Overall, I would not reccommend this phone system, for the high price (I paid over $450 for the base unit & 1 handheld unit) and all the problems I've had....don't bother!

2-0 out of 5 stars PanasonicKX-TGA200B2.4 GHz Handset
We invested over $1100 for the base unit and 8 handsets. At first, the unit worked great. The intercom and call transferring features were especially nice. However, after a year of normal use, the number 1 stopped working on the most-used handset. And last month, the 1 stopped working on 2 more handsets. It's a great phone as long as you don't need do use long distance or have a friend with a 1 in their number. Grrrr. The Panasonic rep in India was of no assistance. He gave us information where we could go PURCHASE more base units.Again, Grrrr.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed
Maybe we just bought a lemon, but our phone system is terrible! The sound quality is often poor. The mobile unit often can't find the base station (even when you're standing next to it).And just last week the #1 stopped working on one of the handsets (which makes it kind of hard to dial long distance).

Even the design of the phone is screwy.Who designs a high end phone without a mute button on the base or handset? And why give only two ring options (2 rings or 5 rings) before rolling into voice mail? And the whole configuration of auto attendant v. voice mail box is just down right odd.

Panasonic ought to discontinue this phone and start over!

3-0 out of 5 stars Phone life
I have had many problems with my phone.I have only had it for 1.5 years and no one can hear me.I have to reset the system each time this happens.Has anyone else run into this problem?hipcheckjeep@yahoo.com

2-0 out of 5 stars Sound Quality Not Great
Bought this cordless phone with good expectations, but I was let down by the sound quality. The greeting and the messages are kinda muddy sounding, also, the message playback volume starts low at the beginning then moves to the normal volume level. This means the first word of your greeting or message can be hard to understand or even lost. This is annoying. I've tried cheaper models in the past that handle messages better.
The sound quality when I'm speaking to someone is only average at best, and when I talk a little loud I can hear some distortion. I'm taking this phone back to the store and getting another, perhaps AT&T or Panasonic.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great
After first purchasing this phone, I thought I really liked it. It seemed very will made, and I liked the way it felt. I bought this phone specifically because I have a wireless LAN that uses the 2.4 Ghz band, and I read a review on another website that said this phone was 5.8 Ghz both to and from the handset. However, I found out from a Motorola salesperson that it actually transmits to the handset at 5.8 Ghz and back to the base at 2.4 Ghz. This didn't bother me too much, and it didn't cause any interference with my wireless router. My one complaint was that the volume of the earpiece on the handset was very low, even at the highest setting, and I had to often ask people to speak up. I was still somewhat satisfied, but after using the phone for about a week, it developed a very loud buzz that was audible on both the base and the handset. It was loud enough that it interfered with conversations on the handset and on the speakerphone. I tested the line with several other older phones, and the line was fine, so back to the store this phone went. I would have exchanged it for another identical phone, but the low earpiece volume made me decide to exchange it for a Panasonic phone, which I'm much, much happier with in every way. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks good, sound quality poor
Nice looking, compact, easy set up but sound quality is very poor.I have excellent hearing but must have NO background noise when talking on this phone or I cannot hear the person I'm speaking to.I also have to strain to hear the answering machine (and have silence for that as well) and the answering machine playback is always garbled and hard to understand.I was very disappointed.I bought this phone for that very reason - I guess I'm going to have to break down and just get voice mail through the phone company.

The redial is ridiculous too - going through an obscure menu to find redial takes longer than just redialing the number. Why didn't they just put a redial button on the phone?

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice phone, looks good too
I have had this phone for the past few months and i like it. The main Pros and cons are:
PRO: Love the speaker phone on the handset, its a very useful feature.
CON: Hate the redial feature. Couldnt Uniden have put a redial button, rather than force the use of the menu.

5-0 out of 5 stars Uniden products rock!
This is the second Uniden phone I have purchased and I love them both. They are easy to set up and use. Can't go wrong with this product!

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice Features, Bad Sound Quality
What a terrible phone. It's reasonably priced, attractive, and has great features, and I really wanted to love it... BUT the sound quality is horrific. For some reason, the volume in the handset fluctuates based on the sound coming from your end.So when you speak, the sound mutes on the other side for a couple seconds, then comes back (which you can track easily because of the ample background static). It's like talking on walkie-talkies.After discovering this problem, I then bought a similar Uniden model (DCT5285) to see if the original phone was defective or if the problem was with the DCT line in general.Sad to say, the DCT5285 had the exact same problem.Bottom line: bad line of phones.I've had good luck previously with the Uniden TRU3465 phones, so I won't write off Uniden altogether -- just the DCT phones.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Features - Annoying Sound
This would be a great pone except for one big problem: when you talk, the earpiece quiets down and cuts out just like talking on speakerphone. The volume in the earpiece is constantly fluctuating. I guess that's because each handset can be a speakerphone (a feature which works quite well... better than most speakerphones). But it was just too annoying more me so I had to return it. Otherwise it has many many features. Useless features like a giant phonebook, the ability to check the answering machine from any handset, and other silly gadgets mostly found on cell phones like playing Fur Elise for a ring tone. It seems built really well but it's just not worth the extra money. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Had to add a mute button.
I had to modify the phone with an on-off pushbutton to mute the mic.I couldn't find another corded phone in this price range with two lines and speakerphone but the lack of mute really sucks on this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice Phone, But Lacks Some Essentials
I have to agree with everyone. Two lines are very nice, but the lack of a mute button makes this phone unusable for conference calls.Unfortunately, I am going to have to replace it with another phone that has two lines and a mute button.Fatal design flaw.Lack of a lighted "message waiting indicator light" is also a big drawback, but there is a faint message waiting indicator on the LCD.

4-0 out of 5 stars I like it better than most
It's true, it's not perfect, but it doesn't cost a fortune either. There is no mute button, but Iuse the speakerphone to listen until I get off the endless hold of banks, tech support, whatever.. so that is not a problem for me. I like that I can use my headset, the handset OR the speaker. The sound quality is good. I set Line 1 as my default line, and I HAVE dialtone on Line 1 when there is no power. I have had the phone unplugged for up to an hour an NOT lost my settings, so I don't think that's all that much of a problem either. Yes, you have to be able to use a menu to set the ringer volume, but once it's set, I leave it, so again, no problem there. For me this phone was a good value for the money, and I am happy with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars No MUTE button while on speakerphone
Great phone for 2 line use in my home office, however lacks a MUTE button for conference calls.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beware No Mute, No Easy Ringer Off
No mute button?Isn't that illegal? How about having to drill down menu after menu to just to turn off the ringer?Otherwise the phone works great and sounds great. But these are biggies to me. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I purchased this phone as a primary answering machine in my home based on my two previous Unidens that I loved and have come to regret it.It's a flimsy machine with poor audio quality. What drives me nuts is the volume - I can barely hear others, but when I speak I feel like my own voice is blasting my eardrum. If I decrease the volume I have a hard time hearing the person on the other end - increase it and I have to hold the phone away from my head when I speak.Nowhere near the quality of the other (more expensive) Unidens. It was so cheap I didn't get around to returning it to Amazon.Oh well, lesson learned. Now I'm going to buy a Panasonic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dont be fool...
Read the reviews for the Black model. There are more negative comments then the positive one.

5-0 out of 5 stars pleased so far...
After a great deal of deliberation I finally settled on this budget Uniden EXAI 978i to replace an older ATT model that was beginning to get buggy. My wife and I were looking for a speaker-phone model but could not find one that matched our needs well enough.I must say that I have been thoroughly pleased with this Uniden, though.Reception and transmission are both very clear and the unit is very small and designed with a small footprint for desktop use.We do not use the caller ID so I can't offer any insight there, but the digital answering system seems to be quite clear and intuitive. All in all, an excellent value. ...
