5-0 out of 5 stars Works with my Motorola Razr
I recently bought this headset because I recently moved to NJ and handsfree is required for car use in most (all) of the places I drive through on a day to day basis.Although the speakerphone on the Razr is ok at low speeds, at highway speeds the volume just isn't sufficient. The Scala 500 solves these problems.

It is seamlessly compatible with the Razr.Once the initial pairing is setup, you need only have the bluetooth power on on your phone and turn the headset on to activate it.

Tapping the CTRL button on the headset to answer a call or activate voice dialing is almost Star-Trekkish and just as easy, and the effective distance is great. The adjustable volume and windscreen technology lets this headset be equally at home in my Mustang GT Convertible with the top down on I-280 and in the quiet confines of my apartment. The talk time is great, and I have yet to manage to deplete the battery in less than 2 days.

My only complaint is the blue LED that constantly flashes when the headset is on.Although this is only a stylistic issue, I think it's unnecessary and a little too geekish for me.Other than that, I'd say go for it!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Didnt work with my Moto V600
I recently bought this headset after reading all the great reviews. The packaging and the headset looks good but the sound quality is pathetic. The other caller had trouble listening to me and I was unable to hear him. Everytime I move my head or move around there is a lot of Static. The range of this device is more like 5-6 feet, it wouldnt work after that, I tested it by connecting to my laptop through BT and the results were same. I think that BT technology has got a long way to go before its ready for consumers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor connectivity with Ipaq h6315
After reading the positive reviews here I decided to give the Scala 500 a try with my Ipaq h6315.Overall, the Scala 500 seems to be an excellent headset, but connecting with the h6315 proved difficult.

The initial pairing is a breeze, but every time the headset or the pda is turned off they lose connection. When the devices are powered on again, it is clear that the headset is connected, but no sound is sent to it.Pressing the activity button for a few seconds properly initiates a redial of the most recent phone number, but again no audio comes to the headset. If a call came to the phone clicking the activity button on the headset does not answer the call, but if the call is answered on the phone then clicking the headset button does end the call. This is directly opposite of the manual's statement that a call on the phone will transfer to the headset when the headset button is clicked.Removing the pairing from the pda and readding it fails to reconnect the headset.Only a soft reset of the pda reestablishes the connection.(Note: I did upgrade the h6315's ROM to the latest version, and the problems persist.)

A peeve of the headset not related to the pda is the requirement to press the multi-function volume know for several seconds to turn the headset on.This is inconvenient for answering calls as I don't wear the headset all of the time.

Also, when the headset is paired and connected properly the phone does not vibrate or audibly ring except in the headset. This makes the setup useless unless I want to either wear the headset constantly or use it for outgoing calls only.

Otherwise, the headset's audio was very clear, and listeners had no problem hearing me.It fit very comfortably on the ear, and stayed in place even when my head was upside down.I liked the look and feel of the headset, and I was disappointed that it did not work properly with my phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars My first Bluetooth experience has been great
Other reviews of Jabra and Bodyglove products led me to this unit.It includes averything needed to get running. The options for carrying the unit are what finally sold me as it includes a neck lanyard, eyeglasses clip, clip on holster and ear hook.I use the earhook and find it comfortable enough that I forget it is on.

The only complaints are the blue LED that blinks when the unit is on (I get BORG coments from my geeky freinds, and it is unnecessarily flashy) and that there is no car charger.

I have only been using it for a couple of weeks, so cannot verify it's durability.I can say that the sound is great, people on the other end say it is very clear and the price was great. I am now looking for a speakerphone option.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Cardo Scal 500 is the Best Bluetooth Headset!
The Cardo Scala 500 is the Best Bluetooth Headset! It is simple to configure and use.The Scala 500 costs half the price of the ones that don't work well (Motorola, Body Glove, Jabba).

The volume is great and there is no static like the others. Most will not work more than a couple of feet away from the phone. The Scala works 30 feets away through steel frame office walls.

Want to add a great wireless headset to your office phone?Consider the version that includes the headset base adapter.Search amazon for: Scala Non-Bluetooth.For $79 you get the500 and the base adapter. There is finally a Bluetooth Headset that WORKS! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not without problems
Most cordless phones theses days are a dissappointment. The Uniden TRU8866 and TCX860 are an improvement in usability, but still have some serious shortcomings.
1. Their microphone reception are very faint (to point of inaudability) on Hello direct and Plantronics headsets that work fine on other phones. Uniden's answer is "buy a Uniden headset." Right. Box doesn't say Only works with Uniden Headset.
2. Their touch tones don't work on many voice response systems I've encountered. My other phones do.
3. While handset voice quality is good, range is less than any other cordless phone I have. Barely the length of my small house.

I won't buy anymore handsets for this system and can't recommend it for the above reasons. I give two stars because they do have some novel features and if they fixed the above would be great.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Addition to the TRU8866 System!Very Satisfied.
This is NO April Fools review!I had an older Uniden 2-line cordless system that developed some problems, but, after some online research, I decided to try this TRU8866 system.I was pleasantly pleased. The clarity of the sound is wonderful! Most people that I talk to can not tell whether I'm on a corded phone or a cordless. The features are well thought out and well integrated. One early-on bonus was that you can easily copy the phonebook that you enter in one handset to the base or to other handsets. It is very easy to add Caller ID info to your phonebook. The two-line operation is intuitive; no intruction book is necessary!Another neat feature is that each handset is a wonderful, hands-free (clear as a bell) speaker phone! I'm back at Amazon to order some more TCX860 Expansion Handsets. The system is great. As far as durability and longevity, only time will tell.

5-0 out of 5 stars How Good Is This Handset/SpeakerPhone?
So good that callers do not even know I am on a speakerphone when I am on this handset outdoors, 100 feet from the base.

With two line operation, and a host of features, this phone is genuinely incomparable ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's good, but not great
I bought this product because I wanted to go wireless and loved the idea of it.I am on the phone for a large part of the day and work out of my home office so I thought this was a great item to buy.

My biggest con about this product is that only one of the headsets has a cushion and is uncomfortable to wear. When you answer and hang up the phone, you are required to press your ear in, which in turn will make your ear red and sore.I tried the behind-the-neck band, which does not have a cusion and just hurts altogether.I've tried wearing the headset off my ear to the front, which makes it sound bad, and you can't raise the volume so high because it sounds scratchy.

Plantronics told me that there is no accessory, nor attachment, nor alternate headband which the device fits into.Only one of the headbands has a cushion which doesn't feel that great either way.

So... now i am using the behind the neck band, with the leatherette inserted between the device and my ear which seems to be the best way so far, and strangely enough, it's not made to be used that way!! so the leatherette falls when you take the headband off.

I still use the headset, I love the mobility of it, but dissatisfied with the performance. But hey, $375+ later I guess I should get some use out of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Earrings problem
The ear rings problem was fixed by Plantronics by the end of 2004. Since late 2004 they have been shipping this product with a different, stronger set of ear rings. Great product. Use it all the time. have one at home & one at the office.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great convenience, good sound, but know your expectations
I have been using this headset for about a week and overall I am very pleased. It was relatively easy to set up, it charges quickly, it's easy to use with the buttons on the earpiece easy to reach and understand.Compared to a couple of other system I bought previously that were not even remotely worth the money I wasted (including a GN wireless headset) this is REALLY worth the current low selling price of $169.

BUT, be sure to realize that you are buying a "wireless" headset and, like wireless phones, there will not be a crystal clear line. Also, if you have other wireless devices, there can be some distortion.

Having said that, I'm thrilled with the performance so far, and HIGHLY recommend the handset lifter that does with this.It works really well.

3-0 out of 5 stars great but must be connected to a regular phone
We bought ours three months ago and use it constantly. The little ring that everybody talks about broke within 24 hours and had to be scotched up.The headset is great because it rests on the head and earpiece does not press on the ear. The base station stays on the desk and is not carried around by the user, like some other systems. On the other hand, with this system you cannot make a call without going back to the base station.

The thing that is amazingly stupid about this is that the base station is not a phone!! So, you have to connect the base station to the handset plug of a regular phone. But since the handset of the regular phone rests on the button that takes the phone off-hook, you have to lift the regular (but unconnected) handset from the regular phone to get the dialing tone, put on and turn on the headset to hear what's going on since the regular handset is unconnected, and then dial using the regular phone.

Likewise, there is an answer button on the headset, but it just connects you to the base station. If you want to answer the phone, you have to go to the base station and unhook the regular receiver.

This headset comes with a contraption with a motor in it connected to a lever that is designed to pick up the regular handset, so that the phone goes online.Since phones come in all shapes and sizes, this contraption isn't likely to fit your fit phone. It didn't on ours.

the advantage with this design is that the headset works on any phone that has a plug-in handset, which means it would work on an office system - if the contraption fits.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great, no broken earpieces
I ordered and received this headset from Amazon during the week of August 14th, and have been using it constantly since then.I have not experienced the problem with broken earpieces that others have been harping about, and my usage has been 3-8 hours a day, every day (minus a week of vacation in September).

I feel paranoid, though, and want to order extra earpieces from Plantronics as they do *look* flimsy.

I do have several gripes; one is that I get echo in the earpiece if I turn up the gain on the microphone too high, but I do not know if this is a problem with the headset, or my phone (Cisco 7960).Another nitpick would be to have some way to put the phone on/off hook w/o using the HL10--it's such an ugly hack...

All in all, the product performs perfectly as advertised, crystal clear communication, the earpiece is comfortable if you don't wear glasses (sometimes I don't wear my contacts and the earpiece can become uncomfortable with glasses on; the headband should rectify this, but I don't like headbands). This is a solid piece of kit that I would definitely recommend and buy again should the need arise.

PS.Why did Amazon raise the price on this lovely little item?($165 -> $199)Regardless, this is still a great value. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken ear clips
I have had this product for just under a month and now the second earclip is cracked and about to break. The little ring that connects to the main unit is thin plastic and snaps easily under light to moderate use. Now I guess I have to find more of them somewhere or stop using the device.

2-0 out of 5 stars It doesn't work with a PC
If you want to use this device with your PC, buy another device. It doesn't work. I have called Plantronics support service and they say that it doesn't work.

It works fine with my mobile phone. But is useless for PC.

The problem is that Plantronics says that it works with PCs... What a shame. I feel I have been cheated

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent noise cancelling
This is the 3rd bluetooth headset I am trying (Jabra & Motorola) being the other two. Even though this is a bit bulky, I feel comfortable wearing it around my right ear. The noise cancelling is the best part of this headset. While driving on both highways & city roads, I have not had anyone complain about the background noise. I do have to attend a bunch of conference calls while I drive and this has been the best headset so far in term of clarity and noise cancelling quality. I have it paired to my Blackberry 7100t phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Sound, Good Fit, Great Price
I had my doubts about this headset when I read the other reviews, but I jumped in and bought it anyway because of the price, and July is around the corner and Chicago's cell phone law goes into effect. I only use it in the car and the sound I get is very good. The battery lasts long but cut the numbers that Plantronics gives you by 25%

I did take a walk away from my phone and the signal did get a little choppy after about 20 feet, but like I said I only use this in the car. It paired with my Motorola V551 instantly with no problems. The ear loop was a little uncomfortable, but after I bent it away from the headset right where the rubber part starts, it fit perfectly after that.

The thing is a little big and if you move your head side to side quickly it flaps on your face but it does sit securely on your ear. You can bend to pick something up or reach up high and it will sit on your ear.

Overall I'm happy with it, and for the price you can't go wrong.

1-0 out of 5 stars Definitely not for PC
From the Product Description, it mentioned it can also be used on PC with bluetooth. Well, it's not true. I tried to set it up but cannot get through. They should have included the Widcomm software to be able to communicate with my notebook. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this phone
I'm inclined to believe I have phone phobia because I generally try to avoid talking on the phone.I got this phone about a year ago and it is my favorite phone of all time. It's like not talking on a phone, so I get very comfortable while talking with it on.If it's not on and I know it's going to be an extended phone call, I always track it down and switch over to it when talking. For some reason, I'm not as perturbed.I actually enjoy using it.It's extremely easy to program both for ring styles and local/long distance numbers so you can easily use one-button dialing for returning calls.I have the rings programmed so that I can tell which of my loved ones are calling.(I give my sons the same ring so I know just to pick it up w/o looking.) The headset is very comfortable and I asked if people had a hard time hearing me.Not at all. The numbers pads are small so you really have to watch what you're doing, but it's the only negative and that is really not a major or even minor problem for me.No big deal.I enjoy using it very much and very happy I got it, even at the price.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor sound quality
After having two Plantronic CT10 phones for years (both of which recently broke), I am very disappointed in this model.

    1. The sound quality is very poor -- there's a constant buzz in the background.I never had this problem with the CT10, so I know Plantronics can do better.

2.You cannot use the phone while it is charging.

3.I liked the clip on the old model, which could hook onto anything. This one will only slide over a belt or a pocket, and it is inclined to pop off.

4.The keypad buttons are tiny and flat, so as you're dialing, you have little sense that you're hitting the right numbers.

4-0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets.
I searched and searched and I really couldn't find anything better than this headset.I have two issues with the headset:

1)It knocks out my 801.2b wireless network sometimes[Netgear ME102 WAP].It's easy to fix, I just have to hit the ch[annel] button, it will move to another channel and everything is happy happy again. Not really a big deal, but annoying how these devices can't play nice together.

2)I use this when I work from home as I try to entertain my kids.Needless to say, there is a lot of speaking and muting in long conference calls to try to limit the number of yells coming from the background. In order to mute, you have to hold down the mute button for about 2 seconds which is annoying.

The headset is comfortable, battery life great, etc etc.I just wish that there wasn't any delay for muting.

    3-0 out of 5 stars It's a good idea...
I bought this wireless phone system to promote multi-tasking; which it does. The battery does seem to last 5.5 hours; and it really does only need about 2 hours to fully recharge. It's also very light on the head when you are using the standard headset form.

There are a few things I would like to see improved upon! For this kind of money they could have done a much better job.

    Needs improving:
    1. Sound quality!: I have had people tell me I sound like I am in a small tunnel whilst using this phone. Also, the speaker sounds slightly muffled; especially when you are using the standard form. The sound via the speaker isn't as bad when you are using the second form; the earpiece. However, the earpiece is not very comfortable at all. It's hard plastic and has very little give.

    2. No battery indicator: This unit will only tell you the battery status when it's dieing. Even cheap phones are able to tell you the current charge status. I guess Plantronics couldn't add this simple feature. So when it comes to battery power; it's all guess work.

    3. Earpiece quality: I have already stated that the earpiece is not ergonomic. Plantronics must realize that not everyone's ears are the same. The earpiece should be able to conform to the user's ear. After a while, your ear will become sore. I have somewhat small ears, so if your ears are a little big; the earpiece will probably hurt you.

    4. Frequency: This phone only operates off the 2.4GHz band. This is very inadequate. Older phones and routers operate off this frequency. So you will can have some issues with interference. Plantronics should upgrade to the latest phone standard; 5.8GHz.

    5. Not enough accessories: Many of the ergonomic problems could be solved via additional accessories. Plantronics could just offer different style earpiece units for the model; yet they don't. They could also just sell improved microphones; yet they don't. Not to say that this is how the problems should have to be solved. For this kind of money, the phone should sound and feel great.

Overall, this phone does its job; which is to keep you multi-tasking. It also prevents you from having a soar neck; as you will not have to pinch a phone against your shoulder anymore.

I recommend this phone; but I wouldn't pay more than $100.00 for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Sound Quality, Works with my wireless network
First, I get excellent sound quality. I use it for conference
calls every day, and the other conferees say that they can
hear me really well, much better than a former cordless (Uniden)
    phone also at 2.4 Ghz.

Next, I have a wireless 802.11b network, based on a Linksys
WET11. Yes it can totally shut down the network, but if I push
the "chan" button while attempting to transmit data on the
network, after several pushes it seems to find a set of channels
(it uses spread spectrum) that allows me to talk and use the
network at the same time.I found that an even more reliable
method is to be accessing a webpage or somesuch at the same time
that I push the "talk" button. In that situation it consistently
chooses a channel combination that coexists peacefully with my
network. In fact I know I've hit the right combination because
I hear a small amount of static in the headset when transferring
data over the network. Oh, and by the way I have my wireless-b
    channel set to 11.

Overall I'm very pleased with the phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but you need to know some things, first
Right. First off, i bought this thing, figuring it would work with my G5 iMac.
I was wrong. Or logitech was shamefully lacking in their info for Mac users.
It SAYS it can work with a Mac, but all I got was the headphones to work.
I had to run out, and pick up this Egg looking thing, called iVoice2. It plugs
into your USB slot, and allows you to use ANY PC mic/headset with your
mac. It is $35-$50 (depending on where you buy it).
But, on plus side, after you buy the iVoice2 from Macally, you can use ANY
PC headsetwith mic you want. :)

Now, on with the headset. This headset is a bit uncomfortable. I like the
behind the ears headsets, but this one is made for big heads, or Large hair.
It has the advantage of not being able to fall off, but it feels loose.
The mic is great. It doesn't reach your mouth. It stops about 2/3rds of the way,
but it does pick up some nice clear sound. I use it for recording voices for
animation and small games I make.
You DO need to turn up the GAIN in your computer, but after that, it's GOLD.
The sound is clear, rich, and not Hissy. i prefer the mic to be closer to the mouth,
because you have to speak up, to get nice levels. If you whisper, you will get
recorded, but you will have to amplify it later in post, and my get some hiss.

All and all, a good product. At the price, you can't do much better.
The long cord is also a plus, when you have people reading from a script, and
don't want them hunched over a table to speak into a desk mic.

Another cool feature, is that the shields on the sides come off, and it comes with
4 colors to place there (black, red, blue, orange), So you know which is yours.

A better mic is the Plantronics DSP-100. It's USB, and has only one head phone,
but it sound beautiful. It also costs $45.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not reliable.
I bought this to use with my Skype (free internet phone service). Ihad high expectations and was happy with the low price. This product turned out to be horrible. After a couple months, three problems:
    1. Only the right ear of the headset is working now,
    2. The little volumn control thing is bad, it does not change volumn smoothly and you have to carefully turn it to some specific place for it to make the right noise.
    3. Connection to the computer not good. I have to press down on the connector with my fingers to hear anything.

    DO NOT BUY THIS

I am editing this review, because this pair of earphones just completely went broke on me. I am angry!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best headset for your computer
Given the price, the sound quality is very good. It's so clear & rich. You can use it only for internet chat or gaming, but also music listening.

Speaking of comfort, I have worn them for 2 hours and my ears still don't have any sign of fatigue.

I think they are worth the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't get these
    Comfort:
Not sure if it's this brand, or all behind the neck headphones/headsets, but the are horribly uncomfortable for me.The plastic part that fits over your ear (between the top of your ear and your head) ends up hurting after about 10 mins of wearing these. My brother has a pair of altec lansing AHS-302 that are the same style, and he likes them.We are the same shape and build (6'2"), so I'm not sure if it's the brand or the style.

    Sound:
The sound from these are lack luster.I mainly used them for playing online games and using teamspeak.I could hear other people's voices just fine, but the sounds on the game (BF1942) where nothing to write home about.I suppose for the price, I can't expect too much.

    Microphone:
This microphone on this or horrible. It comes to the corner of your mouth (as designed) which I like.Problem is, you have to turn the sensitivity up to high to pick up your voice.Using teamspeak, the sound quality of the microphone was the worse of all friends logged in.I know that internet chat sound quality is not a great test, but everyone commented on how "tinny" the sound was from mine, as compared to everyone else (no one else was using these headsets).

    Conclusion:
I would not recommend these even if you like the behind the neck headphones. The sound is rather lack luster and the microphone is one of the worse ones on the market.I took my back to the store and bought a set of over the ear (ear-cup) headsets from Altec Lansing (AHS-502).The AHS-502's where $25.They are far superior to the logitech, although the microphone one both are not as good as the Sennheiser PC-130's.I enjoy the performance of the AHS-502 sound much better than either of the other headsets though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Headset for gaming and chatting
Fits good on your head and sounds great. There is also the volume control on the wire. Fits comfortably around your ears and the cool red ear things look great. The only drawback I have is that I wish the microphone was on the other side. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good One
I bought it thru Amazon.com last month. It has got a clear sound without any unwanted noise. I like the product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Works well for a few months, then it dies
Don't be fooled by people that review a product a few days after they buy it. I bought this headset a year ago and after 6 months ofeveryday use they began falling apart. The first thing I noticed was that the sound stopped working on one side after I dropped the headset one day. You will drop the headset, believe me. Sometimes you just forget they are on and jump out of your chair to pick up the phone or go to the bathroom. I had dropped the headset a few times before and nothing happened. After another month or so the sound in the right side would only work when the cord was positioned in a certain way. That's when I gave up on them.

The headset is worth the money if it is used in a casual way... but for people who listen to music/play games/chat online on a daily basis I would NOT recommend this.

If you think that what happened to me is a rare occurence... do a search online and read it from other people. This happens to others as well and is a design flaw in the headset.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT!
I have to admit normally I don't really bother too much with all the review writing when it comes to items I purchase, but in this case I feel a good review is merited. I got this headset for about half of what I would've paid had I gone to my local computer store.

I checked at several stores in fact for this headset after seeing several good reviews and couldn't find it anywhere for less than $35. Of course that means with the tax, gas, et all, I would have been spreading around $40 for the same headset elsewhere, so I was very pleased to see it on Amazon with free shipping et all.

I must admit I am impressed with the quality of the headset.

I had a Plantronics head set before, that I also paid about $30 for about two years ago that I have been using pretty much constantly due to a disability have and the need for using speech recognition to type. Because I use my headset for just about everything from doing e-mail to doing my job, usually while listening to CDs, I must admit I put considerable wear and tear on my headsets.

I actually went through several of them until I finally got the Plantronics 40 set that I had been using. Except for a bit of tightness on my ears, which I never cared for, that headset held up very well to considerable daily use. The audio quality wasn't bad, and neither was the mike, so when the earpiece, finally broke, after such a long time I must admit I was pretty dismayed.

I did my best MacGyver job, wiring the headset back on with a few garbage bag ties so that I could still use it in the meantime, but I also decided that it was time maybe to upgrade a little to a headset with some larger, more comfortable ear cups. Of course I looked at the Plantronics sets first, why wouldn't I after having such good results with the last set? But I also looked at other brands and read all the reviews there as well.

After doing a considerable bit of reading, and checking out prices online I finally decided on this headset.

What can I say except I am totally thrilled?

This headset is far more comfortable than its predecessor, and the audio quality is just superb in terms of both listening to music and speech recognition. I am sitting here right now listening to a CD and voice typing and both are being done with minimal effort and great enjoyment on my part. This headset is a big improvement, even on the last one.

Yup, I am definitely becoming a confirmed Plantronics fan!

If this headset holds up half as well as its predecessor did, I will have absolutely no complaints!

    :)

3-0 out of 5 stars Works well, Good sound. Short life.
I've gone through two sets of these headsets. The first was good and worked fine till I accidently stepped on the cord and stood up at the same time, ripping the cord out of the headset. I ordered another pair, and they worked fine for 3 months, then the headphone parts stopped working, but the mic still works. For the price, these are pretty decent headphones, but they do not really have a long life. I think my next set of headphones will be the Logitech 980125-0403 Stereo USB Headset 200.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good sound but very poor build quality
I bought this after doing much research for a headset to use on my computer with occasional voice-to-text use. The mic works really well (great for voice applications), although the moveable boom is more marketing hype as it only moves 1 inch with little effect. It is bendable which is good. Audio quality for games and music is very good. Bass response is also surprisingly sufficient. It can output very loud music/sounds without distortion, much better than smaller headsets or earplugs.

If you wear it for longer periods 1 hour+ you may find it hurts your ears.

Also rebranded along the lines of Plantronics GAMECOM Digital Stereo PC Gaming Headset. Identical to the Audio .90 except for some extra printing and different packaging to compete with similar products from Logitech and others.

Volume control works, but isn't very good quality as at max volume you may hear some noise during adjustment. There is also a built in mic mute switch which shows a red sticker when the mic off.

There is also a small clip on the cable which you can adjust to clip to your shirt which keeps the volume control close to you or the cable away from your feet. I haven't really had a need to use it, but it does work.

The plugs are gold plated and have colour coded rings for easy identification.

BUT it is POOR QUALITY - the cable is long (great feature) but fairly thin. Cables on my previous cheapie US$10 Logitech headset were much better quality. After 3 months i noticed the left channel occasionally dropped out, then it permanently stopped working. I took it back to the shop and they took 3 weeks to get it replaced. Now 15 months later the left channel has stopped working agin!

Now this seems like a trend :( I did some research with Google and i've seen stories of other Plantronics products having the same problem. When i jiggle the wire between the headset and the volume control the sound comes on and off. The weirdest thing is that the cable comes in the left speaker then gets routed to the right speaker via the headband. But the right channel works fine and the left does not.
So I opened it up and found that they use a very small PCB to solder the wires together which is the weak spot. I ripped off all the wires, soldered the tips, twisted them together and resoldered them, such a waste of time but now it works again although the cover doesn't close properly.

Also interesting that the warranty is only for 12 months. I'm unimpressed at paying US$50 for something of such poor manufacturing quality compared to $10 headphones which last much longer (the foam ear bits wore off my old Logitech after 3 years but it still worked fine).

Recommend you try something else unless you're OK with replacing it after a year. I've seen it on sale as low as US$18! Open air-headphones are also great but leak much more sound to those around you than closed headphones. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Great features; not so great durability
Phone has good sound quality in handset and speakerphone mode, great range from base station, easy to use presets and other dialing functions. However, many of the keys have already become somewhat lame. They now require you to press very hard; I have missed more than one call because the on/answer button simply would not respond no matter how hard I pressed it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good and not so good
This phone system met our needs perfectly (two lines, no messaging system, speaker phone, multiple handset capability) and from that point of view its been a really good phone. However, the keypads on the handsets have become problematic:you have to really press hard to get a number to register and when you do you often get multiples of the one number you're trying to type.

5-0 out of 5 stars Also Works With VTech 20-2489 System.
This VTech 20-2420 Accessory Handset also works with the VTech 20-2489 Expandable Phone system.

The 20-2489 system is identical to the VTech 20-2481 Expandable Phone system, except that the 20-2489 system has a 20-2420 handset (with stand/charger) included in the box, for a total of *two* handsets, instead of just one.

5 stars because it works well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone system
This is a terrific, well-priced, and reliable phone. Reception is clear, battery life is adequate and it is simple to use. I have tried many, more expensive systems and the v-tech 2 line is the best. Additional phones can be added seamlessly and you do not need an outlet in every room. The answering machine can be acceseed from any handset and the paging functions work quite well. I now have 5 phones using 2 lines on the system and am very pleased.

    Amazon.com Review

The Plantronics lightweight headset is designed to free your hands while you drive or work with a wireless phone. Though the unit's noise-canceling microphone makes it especially suitable for calls placed over a cell phone, it's also appropriate for use with traditional office phones.

Recipients of our phone calls reported no annoying disturbances or distortions during conversation, and audio quality on our end was clear as well, if a bit muffled. The headset works best on phones that feature good volume controls, because the microphone adjust switch raises and lowers the volume in a very narrow range.

The M175 also has the nifty feature of converting from a headband to an over-the-ear-style headset. Unfortunately, this also makes for a somewhat flimsy construction. Pieces immediately began falling off the unit as soon as we removed it from its packaging, though snapping the components back in place took little effort.

Overall, the Plantronics M175 headset is a versatile, quality headset for those looking for a hands-free way to work with their mobile or cordless phones. --John Frederick Moore

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent little headset.
I've owned this unit for at least two years and have found it to work well on both my cell phone and office desk set. It is lightweight and reliable. The sound quality is excellent and I've never received a complaint from any my clients on the other end of the line.It attaches to your cell/cordless, desk set through a 2.5mm plug.It has 3 microphone volume settings and an adjustable volume control wheel on the headset wire, along w/a mute switch (very handy if you're talking to someone in the room at the same time!) It's quite the little gem.I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a inexpensive alternative to Jabra (which has an echo) and to other, more expensive, units.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very happy with this headset
I purchased this headset for use when on the cell phone. The sound quality and way it fits is excellent. The headband could be a bit sturdier but I am careful when expanding or shortening it so I think it is fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for home/office use
For the price, you can't beat this little headset. The mute switch sets it apart from other headsets, which is a must-have feature for conference calls.
It is also comfortable, and in my expererience, fairly durable.I've used this headset for 2 years with no complaints. In fact, I'm listening to a conference call on it right now. :-)

2-0 out of 5 stars Weak sound on both ends.
I wanted to try these for the adjustable mic & ear volume features. While this is a comfortable headset, with a good cord length, the features would only be ideal if they worked well. I strain to hear anyone on them, and they strain to hear me, no matter how high I turn the volume up. I thought maybe my first set was defective, so I returned it and bought a second pair. Same exactl results. I'm sticking with my Panasonic KX-TCA60 headsets from now on, even though they lack the volume control features, the sound is much louder and they're all-around better for half the price.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad for home office, needs an adjustable mic boom.
This headset might be just fine for a cell phone... where we're all used to straining to hear folk. But for the home office, it was the wrong choice, without the adjustable boom people were always complaining they couldn't hear me, and I spent a lot of time pressing the mic closer to my mouth. And it's pretty flimsy, it's broke today, don't remember stepping on it, but that gave it a life of only about 60 days.Tho frankly, I'm relieved, gives me the excuse to buy a better one.I've used a Hello Direct one for years without problems, will probably go back to that. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money!
Heavy, Short Battery Life, Rechargeable Batteries last a couple of months then need replacing. I do not recommend this product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly serious shortcomings
I work on a helpdesk where our employer purchased a set of CS10s (along with a set of older-style lifters for which I cannot find a model number) to allow us to move freely about the office while taking support calls. While generally very functional, they exhibit a few *very* severe problems. We have gone through a total of nine of them without resolving these issues:

The units will, seemingly at random, produce incredibly loud feedback to both sides of the connection. This seems to be related to the phono jack on the remote unit, but also depends on physical location (some areas experience this more frequently than others; so far, air conditioning seems a likely cause).

The units will periodically bleed across channels. Changing channel on the remote unit or range on the base unit does not affect this -- you will be treated to static and the combined calls of all other units in the area, typically until you replace the remote unit (although the remote units appear to correct themselves after time).

They also exhibit frustratingly poor lifter response (even after replacing our older lifters with HL10s). This appears to be a duplexing problem; when placing an outgoing call, the lifter responds fine, but if a call is being received, then the signal used to ring the remote unit (even if ringing is turned off) appears to block the lift signal, not only failing to answer the call but also preventing you from using the Talk button for 5-10 seconds afterward. When this happens multiple times in a row, it becomes entirely impossible to answer the phone at all.

I am very surprised to read so many favorable reviews. After having replaced every single unit at least once, we still find them to be barely adequate for our operations. I do not believe that we have received defective units every single time, nor that our environment is unusual in how we use them. I recommend all potential buyers approach this product with caution.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soooo Handy!
This is an awesome product, saved my neck. It is very easy to use and worth every dime. A bit of advice...Get the handset lifter attachment, very cool!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Headset volume a problem
I found that the headset volume for this phone was low, even when I adjusted the volume all the way up.Perhaps I could buy a better headset to fix this problem. But why should I have to?

    Amazon.com Product Description

A perfect choice for Internet telephony, Web chat, and voice- and speech-recognition applications, Plantronics' lightweight, monaural DSP-100 USB headset ensures accurate speech recognition, unmatched clarity, and uncommon comfort. The DSP-100 features a noise-canceling microphone and comes packaged with the Plantronics PerSono audio control center software for PC and Macintosh computers.

DSP (digital signal processing) technology further reduces background noise. Comfortable swivel earphones and an adjustable microphone boom enhance comfort and extend product life. Other features include inline digital volume and mute controls, integrated third-party software, an easy one-step-installation from CD-ROM, and Plantronics PerSono Audio Control software.

The Plantronics PerSono audio-control software provides a single interface for controlling all computer audio settings, from adjusting the headset's microphone and speaker settings to launching and controlling MP3, CD, and DVD files. Previously, you had to open your computer's control panel to access and adjust these audio functions and settings. With PerSono software it's all right at your fingertips.

Having a single interface lets you quickly and easily adjust volume, balance, bass and treble for the headphone output, as well as mute and volume for the microphone. This makes it easy to set personal preferences and obtain the best performance no matter what your application. You can also select EQ presets for different music styles (i.e. rock, jazz, R&B, classical.)

The USB digital interface module--which resides inline with the headset cord and obviates the need for a sound card--uses 32-bit DSP technology from Texas Instruments, which enhances the input and output signals. (This connection complies with the latest USB standards and is compatible with Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000, and Macintosh 9.04 operating systems.)

The package also includes software titles such as Lernout & Hauspie's Voice Express for speech recognition, Net2Phone for Internet telephony, Voice Pilot for voice-embedded e-mail capabilities, Hearme.com and Firetalk for Internet gaming and conferencing, and an MP3 player for Windows and Mac platforms. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars USB that's cheep, and clear
I just pluged it into my Mac, and it worked. i love mac, sometimes. :)
the sound is far better then other headset mics, I've tried.
I use it to recoed voices, for Animation. You can even whisper, and it
    sounds clear.
A very good choice for Mac.

I use it only for recording voices. i have a different set I use for gaming.
One that will not fall off. I bought this for recording voices. That is why
i don't care if it only has one Headphone.

My review is for the Mic only.
    i love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for VOIP phone calls
Skype is hot for overseas calls (free) but you need a quality mic and earphones. This DSP-100 combines both and is just plug-and-play: stick it into the USB port on Mac or Windows devices and you're ready to talk.(The Mac is easier, no driver needed but included with the Plantronics headset anyway.)

fits over one ear so you can hear normally with the other. And mono is just fine for VOIP phone calls anyway.Full noise-cancelling and digital.Excellent value.

2-0 out of 5 stars underengineered product
The DSP-100 has limited size adjustment and is poorly designed ergonomically. The headset plastic is flimsy and the set does not sit snugly or securely. The microphone does not extend far enough to clear the face or neck. Sound quality is adequate. Voices are recognizable, tone quality is acceptable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well with ViaVoice on Macintosh
I plugged it into the Macintosh.I selected it in the Control Panel. It worked the very first time.I have not loaded any software.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for voice recognition
Been using this on Win2K machine for over a year.Does pretty good job for voice recognition in Dragon, and it's not the most expensive USB headset.Recognition with this is definitely better than analog (non-USB) headset going thru a soundcard.Only drag is that the Plantronics software is not up to snuff -- fairs poorly in comparison to the headset (which is of pretty good quality).I initially had trouble getting the software to recognize the headset at all, and Plantronics support was unhelpful -- as mentioned elsewhere their knee-jerk response is that "it must be your fault, go away."Have overcome their software problems by ignoring their configuation software and just setting up in target application (e.g., in Dragon). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great with a Pansonic phone.
I have a Panasonic 2.4 ghz portable phone and have had excellent results.I've had a couple of headsets before, but this one is the best.I'm not sure about using it on other brand phones, sometimes they are not compatible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for CELL phones too!!
This headset fits great on the head, and has a microphone boom that goes right to the edge of the mouth for loud and clear speech pickup. The incoming audio is also loud and clear, and the speaker fits comfortably over the ear.The headset is large and sturdy -- perfect for the home, office, or car (it is too large to carry around on your person, however). It appears to work with any cell phone that has a universal 2.5mm jack.A fantastic headset for the price!

3-0 out of 5 stars finally found a cordless to use this with
I bought this headset partly based on positive feedback of others. It is a simple design which I like.It works well with my Nokia cell phone. It did not work with a Motorala cordless 5 ghz phone.Oddly enough it did not work with a Panasonic cordless phone either. Both microphone did not amplify nearly enough.I did hook it up to an Olympia 2.4 ghz cordless phone and it works great.Too bad the cordless phones aren't more standardized.

1-0 out of 5 stars May not be compatible with 5.8Ghz cordless phones
I purchased this headset based on the reviews and price. However, the headset did not work with my 5.8GHz, AT&T 5840 cordless handset. There was considerable static and I could not be heard well.I checked the product package and it stated that the headset is compatible with 900MHz and 2.4GHz analog/digital phones. There was no specific compatibility information on Amazon.com so I had no reason not to think it would work with my 5.8GHz phone. Many reviewers have said that the KX-TCA86 is not as good but for me that is not the case.I purchased this headset at Best Buy after checking the package and seeing that it was compatible with 5.8GHz phones.I can be heard perfectly (better than from the handset I am told) and I can hear perfectly. So if you have a 5.8GHz phone I would stay away from this headset and get the KX-TCA86 instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding for the price
I'm shocked of the quality.I tested with several people and they had no idea that I was using a headset. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Wireless headset
When this unit is working, it's great, I have had a lot of problems with it cutting out. I call the customer help line, and they are very nice, but the fixes they have been suggesting are temporary at best. They are now sending me a new battery which they hope will solve the problems but I'm not convinced this will work. Great idea, they just don't seem to have the technology down pat. ... Read more
