1-0 out of 5 stars Buy something else
1. This machine had the worst manual I've ever seen. Even setting the clock required digging in the back of the book somewhere instead of being in the setup section. Did not explain functions clearly or completely.

2. A battery backup would probably be more worthwhile than than the handset spare battery charger feature. Every time the power glitches here (frequently) it loses its settings. Haven't had it working long enough to tell whether it loses its messages when this happens, but I suppose it does. The manual doesn't say one way or the other.

3. Mine (1 wk old) has started talking Mickey Mouse and I can't understand what it's saying when selecting functions any more.

Overall I am totally disillusioned this AT&T product and I certainly would NOT recommend it to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke within 1 Year
This phone started out great. Then within 1 year the answering machine started cutting off incoming messages or not recording them at all. Also, the phone no longer connects correctly with the base so it is difficult to get it to charge. Not a happy customer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Seriously lacking 2-line features
Beware if you are thinking of buying this phone: there is only one outgoing message, and the answering machine does not distinguish at all between the two lines. So you cannot disable answering on one of the lines or have one line automatically routed to a different mailbox. In my opinion that makes this phone useless for a two-line home or office.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone!
I reccommend this phone to anyone who wishes to purchase it.The look really makes this phone a great addition to any family room or somewhere it can stand out.The features are also really nice! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
This phone is fine for receiving phone calls. There is a reason it was only $40 for a 2 line cordless phone -- it is not a tone phone, but a pulse phone. If you call a business that has an extensive voice mail phone tree, you can not get the phone to recognize your entries, unless you remember to put in some code in the process of the phone call.So . . . in short, if you need a 2 line phone for receiving phone calls only, think about this one.If you call businesses that instruct you to dial 2 for customer service, etc., spend the extra money and buy another phone.

3-0 out of 5 stars An Amended Review, Phone Is Just OK
I lauded this phone in an earlier review but felt compelled to amend that praise after using for eighteen months.

I still like the phone's features but find that clarity has become a big issue for me when using this phone.I often have trouble understanding what others are saying, especially if they are also speaking on a portable phone.Clarity when others are on cell phones or land-line phones is a little better, but still not great.

This is not a problem I had when I first started using the phone and there are no problems with the phone lines into my house (I've checked).I've given this phone as a gift to my parents, and they have had some of the same clarity issues as well so I do not think the difficulties are unique to me or my hearing (which is fine).Problems understanding are especially pronounced if the other person is speaking in a low tone of voice or whispering.

After my earlier, glowing review, I had to revise what I said. This phone is just OK.I still use it, and the clarity problems are not bad enough for me to purchase another phone at this time, but they can be annoying.Just wanted any readers to be aware that my opinion has changed after using the phone for a while.

5-0 out of 5 stars This phone is great!
I just bought this phone but am back for another one to save for the future.I've had a lot of two line phones but this one is the best by far.Easy to use.Convenient controls.Just a pleasure.Prior to this one I used a much more expensive Pansonic and it was never as good as this AT&T.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor sound quality
This was the only white, cordless, 2-line, wall-mountable phone I could find (and I think I searched everywhere) which is why I bought it.But the sound quality is so poor as to be almost unusable.Someone described it as overmodulated, and I think that's accurate. There's not a whole lot of static (although more than there should be), but the voice sounds like it's been run through a "robot voice changer" toy.Well not that bad but you get the idea. And people on the other end ask me to repeat myself often so it seems to be both ways.

We have it in the kitchen and only use it to answer calls and then go to another phone to talk.

2-0 out of 5 stars poor sound quality
As i move around my apartment the phone would buzz and hiss.About 9 months after I got it loud cracking static could be heard even when I am close to the base unit. The sound quality is very very poor. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I WOULD SUGGEST YOU SAVE THE CASH, AND AVOID A LOT OF GRIEF
Less than a year ago we purchased a pair of the Casio MA240's, also at a deep discount price that could not be published. Thesephones are just plain Junk! Costly yes, but still Junk. So "Put the credit card down and step away from the computer" Problems are many and they start early in the phones life. Problems such as > Volume gets lower and lower as time goes by. The number pad buttons either stick, or dont make any tones at all.Batteries lose all memory in a short period of time, and on top of that , it can bea little complicated to figure out many of the extra features. The best advice I can give you at this time is good luck finding a phone that will last more than a year as we have bought phones that range in price from 19.99 to 300.00 ( for pair) and they all seem to decay and stop functioning within a years time.We purchased our phones new, not reconditioned, and we surely never expected them to go bad, this quick.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy phone to hook up anywhere in your house.
This Product when using the MH-200 will give you multiple phones with no extra wiring needed. This is the best thing for you who dont want to rewire your home.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy, Even if Discounted
Now I know why the product was on sale, cheaper than the cost of a handset for the system.Range seemed OK although never really tested the full range of the unit.Speaker volume was decreased as previously noted.Battery life can be incredibly short.Truly annoying problem was that our other cordless phones seemed to malfunction periodically (never a problem previously), it would somehow misdial numbers constantly and we would have to revert to the other phones to complete the calls.Bought several of the systems and they are all going back.Should have checked out the reviews previously.

1-0 out of 5 stars Quality is not good
Agreeing with other reviewers, I have found the quality to be really bad on this phone.People I call are constantly asking me to speak up - it sounds like I am calling people from Mars. The buttons are too small and many times they do not "beep" correctly - an annoyance especially when I am calling into phone trees (you know the ones, press 1 then press 2).I am so sorry I bought this phone. What a waste of money!

1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING!! Do not buy this phone!
This product is worthless.Don't expect more than six months worht ofuse, because that's all you'll get.Furthermore, Casio will not assist youin replacing or repairing it.I made the mistakes, but never again. Consider yourself warned. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Battery life is Horrendous
We have had these phones for about 2.5 years with 2 different base systems as we have 2 different business lines coming in and then our residence line. The battery on ALL of the phones (3 total cordless phones) is HORRIBLE.The longest it lasts is 20-30 minutes which is a good day and 5 minutes on a bad day.On some of the expandable headsets they even hang up without warning, definately not a good thing when you are on a business call.We even bought another battery and that didn't work.We are looking into replacing the whole system with another at this time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect? No, but does the trick.
I think when you pay a lot for a state-of-the-art home phone system, you expect a lot.I did when I bought this phone. Is it perfrect? No.Is it serviceable and useful? An emphatic yes!

It gives a very flexible capability to manage two or less telephone lines over a wide physical distance.Three mailboxes with external access are great for large or small families.Sound quality is excellent.I love the speakerphone on the base and each handset. The distinctive ringers for each line let me ignore inbound calls on my outbound line (they're all telemarketers) completely. In short, my life improved for buying this system.

Shortcomings?Here goes:

Battery life on handset batteries is poor with the factory batteries. It may have gotten better in the year since I bought it.My solution has been to simply bite the bullet, go to Circuit City, and buy non-Panasonic replacement batteries for each handset.Problem solved.

When you are on a line and a call comes in on that line, the caller gets a busy signal. Can''t modern science find a way to ship that call directly to the digital answering machine?

Only 15 minutes of available time on the digital answerer. This is simultaneously a blessing and a curse. You can legitimately instruct callers to "leave a brief message" and cut them off at the one minute mark.

Only 50 slots for your directory.Given that this phone is intended to manage up to 8 phones on two lines, Panasonic should have given at least 200 slots.By being clever, you can have 50 slots per phone (i.e., up to 400 numbers) but that defeats one of the sweetest features of this system, which is to swap listings ("copy") from phone to phone.Hey Panasonic -- why not allow the user to create multiple listings for each name, like most cell phone directories now do?This would be a perfectly applicable way to increase the storage in this unit.

The unit is complex to learn initially, but not as bad as some.

In summary, this is an improvement over my previous phone "system," and has allowed me to forego the monthly $7.95 voice mail charge from my local carrier.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too many problems
I bought this model with an extra handset because I got a good price on it and didn't need an answering machine. While the reception was fine (only reason for 2 stars and not 1), I could never get it to work properly...first, the second line indicator light wouldn't go off even when the phone wasn't in use. I wasted hours and hours on the phone with Panasonic customer service and trying different hook ups. I got conflicting advice as well as incorrect information about connections.
I was connecting an answering machine and through that a fax. I had it working fine except for the annoying second light problem, tried a suggested fix and then the second (fax) line would only ring through the fax machine, and no signals were sent to the other handset. After a fyet for a lower price), plugged it in and have had no problems since.
Panasonic's customer service was lousy. I emaileda question the first day, and it took 4-5 days to get a form response that didn't answer the equestion.
While one rep was very helpful, trying to get answers from other reps when she couldn't answer my questions, she referred the problem to someone who was supposed to call me back. That didn't happen for 3-4 days, by which time I had returned the phone. Plus the reply left on my answering machine would have been of no help at all!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Phone I've ever had
Best phone I've ever had. Love the caller id - return call feature and the ability to one button edit whether or not the number needs a "1", area code only or 7 digit local. You can also add the caller id number to your speed dial directory! We also like the battery indicator (like a cell phone has) on the handsets. Without old units we had, you were never quite sure when the battery was about to die until it started beeping in your ear.

We also run a Microsoft wireless computer network and have no issues with the signals conflicting even thought they are both 2.4 gHz devices.

The speaker phone and handset quality are excellent.

I would recommend this phone strongly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, But I Still Want Better
A nice system overall, but not nearly perfect. We purchased a set of these to replace our burnt out Siemens Gigaset 2402 system. While we were happy to have something that worked... the features and design of this system leave much to be desired. Numerous minor inconveniences and awkwardnesses make these phones less than they could be--nothing major, and perhaps only noticeable when compared with the excellently designed Siemens phones (really nothing more than the difference between Japanese and German design).

Two features stand out in comparison with our retired Siemens phones, one negative and one positive. On the positive side, these phones support detection of voice messages on an existing message system, so that it is easy to see from any handset whether there are unplayed messages on either line. On the negative side, the system does not support handset naming. We imagined this would be a minor inconvenience when we bought the phones, but it has proved to be a major drawback: there's simply no way to get the entire family to learn what number goes with what phone. When we had the Siemens system, which supports handset naming, the we had a working intercom system (not to mention convenient transfers of calls); now we're back to shouting

UPDATE: After over a year of use this product is still going strong. Excellent reliability earns an additional star over my initial review. Much more reliable than comparable Siemens systems. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy it!
I purchased this phone and it has been a headache ever since I got it charged up.It has horrible static and clicks when in use. Those that I am talking with complain that they cannot understand me because it constantly cuts out.I have sent it back to the customer service to get it fixed, but who know what will happen with it.I'd recommend passing up this phone and going with a different one.Saving the lower price for a two line phone wasn't worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good phone
OK, I like cordless phones. Always have. When they work well they duplicate the functions of wired phones with freedom to move around the home or office. The problems with them can be: poor range resulting in static or dropped calls, short battery life requiring lots of time on the cradle, poor fidelity, interference with other devices (which I have experienced with some 2.4 Ghz models- so I came back to 900 Mhz). This Panasonic 2-line unit suffers from none of those shortcomings. In addition, the phone features are genuinely useful and work flawlessly. Line 1 and Line 2 indicators tell me which line is ringing, and when another extension is using a line elsewhere in the house (the Panasonic will automatically choose the free line for your outgoing call). Unlike other phones I have had, I can be on the Panasonic and my wife can join in the conversation from another extension (wired or cordless), just like picking up 2 wired extension phones. Caller ID features work well and quick saves from the Caller ID list to the Panasonic's internal phonebook are simple and intuitive. Even the speakerphone works well, so nice when multiple family members want to chime in all together from the patio when the grandparents call. The Amazon price beat everyone else when I bought this phone, but the price went up a little when I went back to buy a second one - I like it that much. It would be nice if Panasonic offered:
a) second battery to stay charged in the phone base to keep the unit operational during power failures. b) Speakerphone at the base station. c) microphone mute- conspicuously absent here. d) More range - they offerSST models they claim to quadruple the range at substantially more money - I may try one to see.
Bottom line- If... youhave Caller ID service from the phone copmpany, this is the phone to buy.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!
This is my third Panasonic 900Mhz cordless phone and I have to say that I am sorely disappointed in it. I purchased this phone about 4 months ago. It seemed to have all the features I wanted in a phone; Two lines so I could answer both my home and office numbers, speakerphone in the hand unit for those times I have to call my DSL provider for support and get put on hold for a 1/2 hour... That stuff is real cool, except the phone itself is useless.
If I go further than 5 feet from the base station, the unit will emit loud pops and clicks. People are constantly asking my to speak up because they can't hear me. It is the most frustrating thing on earth to try speaking with someone while the phone is popping clicking and they can barely hear you.
I returned the phone in exchange for a new unit - I figured I may have received a bad one and it was past the 14 days I had for a full refund. The new unit had the same problem. I thought that maybe my other cordless phones were causing interference, so I unplugged all of them and even turned off all of my computer equipment - everything remotely electrical in the house had been turned off - even my cell phone. The KXTC1723 STILL has the same problem!!!
My other two Panasonic 900Mhz cordless phones are outstanding performers. I have had them for a few years now. I am very severely disappointed in the KXTC1723 model phone and will never purchase another Panasonic item again (so much for that HDTV I had my eye on).

This phone finally pushed me over the edge:

I was on a call earlier this morning with my mortgage agent and again had to play the repeat-myself game over the pops and clicks (as if refinancing isn't stressful enough). Mid sentence, I just could not take it anymore. I snapped off the antenna and threw the phone against the wall hard enough to send the battery into low-earth-orbit. I then courteously escorted the KXTC1723 unit to the garage where I introduced it to the business end of my Stanley 20oz Claw Hammer.

Problem Solved.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent 2-line Cordless Phone, especially Caller ID
I have owned this phone for about 2 months. When I bought it, I was concerned that a second 900 MHz cordless phone might interfere with the Sony SPP-M937 that I already use. I have not had any interference, possibly because of the Panasonic's Auto-scan feature. The clarity is good, even across the house, and it uses a standard replaceable NiCad battery which recharges in the base. I was especially pleased with the search button in the center of the keypad, which accesses many menu functions with oneor two pushes. It works well with Caller ID; all messages are logged, and can be added to the 50 number directory with a single button push. The size of the handset, weight and durability are also good. Two small criticisms: the 50 number directory may be small for some, and I would like a way to switch off the Caller ID log, which logs each call that comes in. For the price, this is a great phone. ... Read more

It features 2-Line operation that accesses two separate phone lines from one phone (requires two-line installation from your local telephone company), and ensures high voice clarity. The 900MHz is used for extended range thanks to superior transmission technology and you can carry your cordless phone further-and still carry on a conversation. If you start walking out of the range the phone will notify you with a special alert. You can always dial the 10 most frequently used numbers stored in phone memory. The base speakerphone feature lets you answer incoming calls at the base. Intercom lets you talk between handset and base unit. Page signal initiates intercom contact in either direction.

For the price, this is a great phone. ...

The sound quality is very very poor. ... Read more
