4-0 out of 5 stars Superior sound quality, great for headset, but no mute?!
I got this phone for my home office; I bought a quality "Hello Direct" headset (and 6' extension) to go with it.It's really worked out great.I've had many phones, both personal and PBX-quality, but this one is the best.My previous home business phone was a $99 AT&T model... it was nowhere near the quality of this Panasonic model. Both the handset and speakerphone are "hi-fi" compared to other phones.

It really shines with it's headset capability (such a beautiful thing when you work at a keyboard for a living). Also, there's no need for an external amplifier, like some phones.(Although I do work in a quiet home office, so a loud environment would probably require the amp... I often have the volume at max, which works fine for me.)

Using it to store numbers, review caller ID calls, redials, etc. is a little tricky, but no worse than any other business phone.

It handles 2 lines well, with all the business features you'd expect. For example, it has a voice mail light that indicates when your voice mail (purchased from your local phone company) has new messages. You can program that button to automatically dial your voice mail, and even type in your password (adding some "pause" spacers after your voice mail access number). It's really convenient to press one button, then pick up the line (or hit speakerphone) and get your messages.

My biggest complain (and it cost a star!) is that there's no mute button. There is a "hold" button, but this also cuts your audio so you can't listen, so I never use it. The problem has made some conference calls a little awkward, especially when my wife is yelling for me from across the house.:-(
If I ever get the time I may try taking apart the phone to add a toggle switch to cut out the microphone when on speaker... but obviously that's not a fun project, or something Panasonic should expect of a consumer.

In case you didn't realize, this phone has to be plugged into an electrical outlet too (with a usual clumbsy AC adapter).Luckily the phone remembers all settings and phone numbers if you lose power, and it still works as a plain phone while power is out.No batteries.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but lack of 'Mute' button is serious flaw.
As others have noted this phone has many well thought-out features.

I particularly like the flashing light/button that announces whether our phone-company supplied voice-mail has any new messages and can dial directly in to pick up our messages.

I find the display is hard to read - it really does need a back-light, and I need to have fairly strong office lighting on in order to read it.

However, the most significant day-to-day problem is that (as the technical-details link shows) the speaker-phone does not have a Mute feature.

This makes using the speaker phone problematic.
Most of the speaker-phone scenarios that I run into require an easily accessed mute function.

Finally, there are 8 levels of speaker-phone volume, but the 4 highest levels are too way too loud - the entire plastic housing buzzes and vibrates with the dial-tone.

If only Panasonic had made the lowest volume setting into 'Mute' they wouldn't have needed to add an additional button and they could have done away with the (useless) highest volume setting.

If I was going to do it again, I'd buy a different desk/speaker phone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Home Office Phone
Good features , the jog dial and the voice mail alert light are what I like the best. My only gripe is that thescreen is not lighted.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good phone
Very good phone. The intreface is as good as usually every Panasonic product. There are bunch of usefull features, like choosing the open line when one of lines is busy, "voicemail" light blinking for phone company voicemail and big memory.

Fonts are very big and very easy to read.

You should be very happy with this purchase.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone, But One Flaw
The designers added a lot of human-engineered common sense features such as auto-selecting the ringing line when you pick up the handset. Also, when one line is in use elsewhere and you pick up the handset, the phone selects the unused line. The buttons are large and well-labeled. The Voice Mail lamp works well.

Caller ID has a quirk, though. Ocassionally, when the first ring is brief, it does not display the Caller ID. I have to go to another (different brand) phone I have in another room to look at the Caller ID. The Caller ID was in fact received; you can find it in the log. However, you can't get to the log via the Jog Dial while the phone is still ringing. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Panasonic's KX-TSC7 Corded Phone with Caller ID is an ideal phone for those who just need a simple phone and want to know who's calling. It doesn't have a lot of advanced features, but its sensible design makes it easy to use and keeps the cost down.

The KX-TSC7 has small touches that make it a great overall telephone. The LCD screen has adjustable contrast settings, and it can be configured to show either Spanish or English text. It also has a call timer, convenient for business users or people using prepaid calling cards. The LCD shows three lines at a time, so the caller's name and number can be displayed at the same time, and the phone supports caller ID/call waiting (also called visual call waiting), so you can see who's trying to reach you while you're talking to someone else. Voice-mail subscribers will appreciate the phone's ability to intercept signals from your voice mailbox and flash an alert to let you know that new messages are waiting.

When contacts call, it's easy to move their number from the caller-ID memory to a virtual address book. You can store up to 50 numbers in the phone, which you can later dial at the touch of a button. The phone's voice quality is great, helped by the fact that the handset has six volume settings instead of the usual three. The ringer on the base also has two volume settings, not including an off position.

For people with voice mail and caller ID who are looking for the voice quality of a corded phone but don't want to spend a lot of money, the KX-TSC7 is an excellent choice. --T. Byrl Baker

  • Supports caller ID/call waiting, voice mail, and 50-number caller ID memory

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken as Designed...
I got this phone and promptly returned it.The problem was that the
Caller ID didn't work when I called in on my Verizon cell phone.I
know for a fact that the Caller ID is coming through, since I see it
on other phones (including other Panasonic phones!), but this one just
says OUT OF AREA.Broken as designed.I ended up getting an AT&T
Model 858.It's a shame there are so few options in traditional
corded phones that keep up on the newer features.I was loyal to
Panasonic for a long time but not anymore.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a Good Choice
I bought this phone for the caller ID feature. The display can only be read if you look at it just right and the caller ID stopped working after about 3 months.
Poor design. Poor quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken-Right out of the Box
I was really looking forward to this phone. I needed a caller ID phone that didn't use an AC outlet. There aren't many out there.I respected the Panasonic name but what I got was awful.First, I hung it on the wall but I couldn't read the display while I was standing next to it.I had to stoop down to about 5 feet above the floor to read the display. To program the phone I had to get a chair and sit in it to perform the program. That's when the big problem was discovered.

The LCD is about three lines tall. But only half of the middle line was "lighting" up.The LCD was busted!I waited a week for this?So far the Amazon return process has been friendly, but I dread looking for another phone.

Other drawbacks: no short cable for wall mounting, no free AA batteries.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too small and hard-to-read display
When I read the reviews before buying this phone, I was thinking maybe some reviewers were just being too picky about the caller ID LCD display. Now that I've bought it myself, I totally agree that it's caller ID display is a pain to read. If you just sit at your desk looking at it, what you see is 888888888888888, and everything that the LCD has on it.The only way to read the display is to hold up the phone in ONE particular angle; any slight change of angle will make it impossible to read. In addition, even if the angle is right, the readings are too tiny. This is in contrast to the large dial buttons which is a good thing about this phone. I like the small size of the phone. But the settings and display are very frustrating. It's better to buy a cheaper phone without caller ID and buy a separate calelr ID.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disapponted
I really like panasonic phones in general - I have 2 cordless phones & an answering machine which are panasonic. When I went looking for a corded phone with caller id, I was excited to find this one - the size and design were exactly what I was looking for. However, the display is difficult to read unless you're standing above it and the caller id feature is lacking.Specifically, I found that I cannot recognize cell phone numbers - it displays them as "out of area" with no number attached to them.By contrast, my other panasonic cordless phone displays "out of area" AND the phone number for cell phones. This is important because I like to distinguish between telemarkets and my friends with cell phones. With this phone, I can't. ... The Polycom Soundpoint Pro two-line desktop conference phone combinessupport for two lines, three-way conference calling, and caller ID with callwaiting into one easy-to-operate unit. Its well-chosen convenience andproductivity features make it ideal for your busy family or homeoffice.

Setting up the SoundPoint Pro is simple, following the included quicksetup guide. A quick reference guide is also included for convenient access tobasic phone operations. The slim handset is sturdy and comfortable to hold. Thebase includes 28 buttons, intuitively arranged, and a large-print LCD. TheSoundpoint Pro has seven programming menus, including speed dialing, ringvolume, local number storage, line selection, time of day, LCD contrast, andcaller ID. While the ringer can only be set to one sound, the volume can beadjusted and the piano-like tone is unique and pleasant.

You can store up to20 numbers in memory dialing, and you can import them from the caller ID log. Toset up a number for memory dialing, we pressed the program button to display theLCD menu. We entered a number between 1 and 20, dialed the phone number andname, and pressed the program button after each step to save. To dial a storednumber, we pressed the program button once, used the volume buttons to selectthe stored number, and then pressed the speed dial button to make the call. Theonly way to erase a stored number is to program over the old number. If yousubscribe to caller ID with call waiting, you can access these functions usingthe flash button and LCD. There is a 99-number caller ID log.

Other SoundPointPro features are a rear microphone, redial, hold, mute, headset, and speakerbuttons. A conference button conveniently brings all callers off hold and into athree-way conversation. All buttons associated with conference calling includered and green lights to let you know the status of a call. For example, a redlight means the line is in use, while a blinking green light means the caller ison hold.

In our tests of the Soundpoint Pro, we found the voice transmissionto be clear and did not detect any background interference. Overall, it makes afine addition to an office environment. --Emily Bakko

3-0 out of 5 stars Little Disappointed
The quality of the conference phone is not near as good as the Polycom phones on your conference room table. You have to be pretty close to the phone and speaking into it for others to hear you clearly. If all you want to do is listen to others talk on speakerphone then it is fine....good for listening to conference calls on speakerphone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just Stopped Working One Day
Suddenly, after 16 months of use, the phone just stopped working. Neither the handset nor the speaker phone works and the LCD display has gone blank (but the LEDs light-up). I called the customer support line and they recognized the problem. But they will not replace or fix the phone without charging me ... since the one-year warranty period ran out four months ago. Obviously I am not going to pay ... for a refurbised phone, especially since I was never really happy with it. Its duplex feature never quite worked well and the mic was not sensitive enough and the speaker volume never went high enough. Overall, the quality of Polycom's home products are drastically inferior to its office products.

2-0 out of 5 stars Needs more volume
I have one. The only reason why I am looking for a different phone now is because the volume is too low. Just like some of the other reviewers, I have the control on 5 (highest) and I still need more volume.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Support
The speaker phone is clear but the maximum volume is too low.

Our phone stopped working after 13 months.Polycom offered to sell us a rebuilt one for the same price as a new one.Such a deal.

Obviously we are not happy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
I've used Polycom pod phones at work for years and think they're great. This phone, though, is a disappointment. I'll echo what the others say about speakerphone quality.OK, but I've heard cheaper phones give quality nearly as good. It has no backlit display which is a crime in a phone this expensive. The biggest annoyance is that the incoming volume is just not loud enough.People will call in and I'll have the volume on 5... and not be able to hear them.Note: My phone is over a year old, maybe they've improved it since then (I hope so). ... 2-0 out of 5 stars OK Phone, Better Choices Available
This Sony phone, like most of the other models they make, works fine but the sound quality is "flat" and as a result long conversations tend to be difficult. I find the ergonomics (e.g., no lighted buttons, feel of the buttons, design of the headset) of Sony phones to be a notch or two below AT&T and Panasonic which is surprising because most of their other products are generally pretty good. As a phone in a room where you will not use it too much this is ok, but I'd suggest looking elsewhere for your primary phone.

2-0 out of 5 stars The volume is too low.
It is very hard to hear the other party's voice since the volume is simply too low. ... Read more

Sony's jog-dial feature offers one-touch access to your personal directory and to caller ID memory. The push of a button lets you scroll to find the entry you're looking for, and another push of the same button dials the number. Three-way conferencing is made easy with the speakerphone, allowing you to talk simultaneously on both lines with two separate parties. The mute button blocks the handset or speakerphone's microphone, allowing you to speak privately to others in the room. The speakerphone also provides hands-free dialing with adjustable volume so that you can talk without picking up the handset. Sony's data port capability allows you to connect a computer, modem, fax, or answering machine without adding an additional telephone jack.

Note that caller ID, call waiting, voicemail, and a second phone line all require activation and service fees through your local phone company.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aa Fantastic 2-Line Phone-
I have nothing but praise for this phone. It's not perfect as other reviews show, especially about the point about the caller ID number being replaced by the words "ringing'.However, I presently have five (5) of these phones in use at my home at the present time.I have used three of them over 3 years, and the other two less than 18 months. They are very reliable, having been dropped numerous times (at least twice a month). I would not recommend them for business lines, if features such as having quality conference calls are very important to you.But for all around general communication use as a two-line phone they cannot be beat!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone
I bought this phone almost 2 years ago.I was very surprised by the reviews that I read.Maybe I bought the only good one out there, but have never had a problem with it.It sits on my kitchen countertop and has dropped on our tile floor several times and is still working great.I love the call waiting/caller ID feature (which is why I bought it). I have been happy with my purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Phone
The Caller ID information is replaced on the next ring with the word "ringing"

1-0 out of 5 stars Not impressed at all ...
I bought this phone because it offered Caller ID and two-line conferencing. In my experience, neither feature works well.

All too often, but not every time, the Caller ID information is replaced on the next ring with the word "ringing" (not terribly useful information) before I've had a chance to comprehend it.I've had to resort to placing a Caller ID box next to the phone.

When using the conferencing feature, I've found that while I can hear the two outside parties just fine, they can barely hear each other.Conference calls are so filled with "can you repeat that" that I've had to abandon them entirely with this phone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked just past the warranty
I'm extremely disappointed with this phone. When I first purchased it it had all the capabilities I was looking for. I only had two problems with the phone but the second one was a killer.
The first problem was that I had to select which line I was going to use rather than have a switch that defaulted to my preferred line. I use the phone mostly for business and wanted to use line 2 but it defaulted to line 1. Switching the incoming lines didn't work so I was stuck pushing the line button every time I wanted to make a call.
The second problem was that the phone quit working on line 2 about 14 months after I purchased it, 2 months after the warranty expired. I've used it for about a week as a one line phone but that just quit also.
All in all I'm very disappointed with a product from a premier company such as Sony that failed to last much past the warranty. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Sony IT-M602 offers the expected conveniences of a corded phone plus the benefit of supporting two separate incoming telephone lines, with adjustable rings for each number. For a busy home with several phone users or for a small but growing business, Sony incorporated many desirable features, including speakerphone, electronic hold, and data port compatibility. The unit's memory is programmable for 20 speed dial telephone numbers. The last 50 incoming calls are stored in caller ID memory, along with the caller's name, number, date, and time of each call. A three-line LCD provides clear and readable information.

If you receive a second call while you're already on the phone, you can view the second caller's name and number and then decide whether to put your first caller on hold. Line status indicators tell you that a line is in use. A new call indicator on the base illuminates to indicate new calls during your absence, and the visual message-waiting indicator lets you know when you have a voicemail message.

Amazon.com Review

VTech's 4121 four-line phone with caller ID/call waiting is a capable model that wouldn't look out of place in mission control at NASA. It has a few drawbacks, but for the money it's an excellent phone for a small business user.

Besides support for four telephone lines, the 4121 offers a two-line caller ID display that is easy to read, comes with 18 dedicated speed-dial buttons, has a speakerphone and intercom, and handles three-way conference calls. Sound quality through the corded handset was excellent, and we also got good results when using a headset with the built-in headphone jack. The speakerphone on the base also worked well, thanks in part to the volume buttons that let us fine-tune the speaker output.

The caller ID can remember the phone numbers and names of the last 99 callers. Considering the size of the phone, it would be nice if the LCD screen displayed three lines of information, but the two-line display works adequately. Our only other complaint with the 4121 is that many of the buttons are needlessly small. The speed-dial buttons are tiny little nubs, and all the buttons have small labels that are hard to read from across a desk. Regardless, there are few phones at this price level with similar features that can be expanded into an up-to-12-station setup, so the 4121 might be just what your business is looking for. --T. 1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
I had high hopes for this product but between the fact that you cannot adjust the ringer volume separately for each line and the annoying delay on tones when you dial a number, it isn't going to me much use to me unless I find a location where I can hear the appropriate bells ringing from another phone and don't ever have to dial out.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware: The hold button doesn't work as expected
In addition to the annoying delay when you dial numbers, when you put someone on hold with this phone, and then take the call on another phone and then you hang up, the VT4121 doesn't release the line. You need to go to the VT4121, and pick up and then hang up the line.VTech support says this is normal, and they tried to tell me that all phones behave this way!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone
I am very pleased with this phone, it didn't cost alot and it seems to work very well. We have eleven of them in our house. I use the intercom and paging features alot. It doesn't have call waitig with called ID(which is no big deal because I don't have call waiting, I have other incoming calls forwarded to another line). The only thing I wish it had that most other phones like this have is a battery back-up. If the power fails, I have to reset the clock on each phone. Other than that, compared to other 4-line phones, they were a bargain. I got them at different stores over time between $50-$80 each.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 line wonder
While one reviewer was unhappy line identifier was not automatically supplied, (this is of course a line supplier item not a phone supplier item only.)the phone itself has large easily used buttons, with easy to see at a glance red indicator lights. It does every thing the instructions cover, you can even program a time delay before the second line rings. It works well with other phones on our line (which were A T & T )- While we rated it a 4 star it is really a four star plus - oh and it also accepts headphone operation, something most other phones in this area do not.

3-0 out of 5 stars Wrong Information
I ordered this phone based on a number of its features.Unfortunately one of the most important for me was the Caller ID/CW.The phone does not have this feature.I contacted Vtech myself after receiving the phone to verify, and I am correct.Do not order this phone if you want that specific feature.I really can not rate the rest of the phone. ...
