5-0 out of 5 stars I love this phone
I'm inclined to believe I have phone phobia because I generally try to avoid talking on the phone.I got this phone about a year ago and it is my favorite phone of all time. It's like not talking on a phone, so I get very comfortable while talking with it on.If it's not on and I know it's going to be an extended phone call, I always track it down and switch over to it when talking. For some reason, I'm not as perturbed.I actually enjoy using it.It's extremely easy to program both for ring styles and local/long distance numbers so you can easily use one-button dialing for returning calls.I have the rings programmed so that I can tell which of my loved ones are calling.(I give my sons the same ring so I know just to pick it up w/o looking.) The headset is very comfortable and I asked if people had a hard time hearing me.Not at all. The numbers pads are small so you really have to watch what you're doing, but it's the only negative and that is really not a major or even minor problem for me.No big deal.I enjoy using it very much and very happy I got it, even at the price.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor sound quality
After having two Plantronic CT10 phones for years (both of which recently broke), I am very disappointed in this model.

1. The sound quality is very poor -- there's a constant buzz in the background.I never had this problem with the CT10, so I know Plantronics can do better.

2.You cannot use the phone while it is charging.

3.I liked the clip on the old model, which could hook onto anything. This one will only slide over a belt or a pocket, and it is inclined to pop off.

4.The keypad buttons are tiny and flat, so as you're dialing, you have little sense that you're hitting the right numbers.

4-0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets.
I searched and searched and I really couldn't find anything better than this headset.I have two issues with the headset:

1)It knocks out my 801.2b wireless network sometimes[Netgear ME102 WAP].It's easy to fix, I just have to hit the ch[annel] button, it will move to another channel and everything is happy happy again. Not really a big deal, but annoying how these devices can't play nice together.

2)I use this when I work from home as I try to entertain my kids.Needless to say, there is a lot of speaking and muting in long conference calls to try to limit the number of yells coming from the background. In order to mute, you have to hold down the mute button for about 2 seconds which is annoying.

The headset is comfortable, battery life great, etc etc.I just wish that there wasn't any delay for muting.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's a good idea...
I bought this wireless phone system to promote multi-tasking; which it does. The battery does seem to last 5.5 hours; and it really does only need about 2 hours to fully recharge. It's also very light on the head when you are using the standard headset form.

There are a few things I would like to see improved upon! For this kind of money they could have done a much better job.

Needs improving:
1. Sound quality!: I have had people tell me I sound like I am in a small tunnel whilst using this phone. Also, the speaker sounds slightly muffled; especially when you are using the standard form. The sound via the speaker isn't as bad when you are using the second form; the earpiece. However, the earpiece is not very comfortable at all. It's hard plastic and has very little give.

2. No battery indicator: This unit will only tell you the battery status when it's dieing. Even cheap phones are able to tell you the current charge status. I guess Plantronics couldn't add this simple feature. So when it comes to battery power; it's all guess work.

3. Earpiece quality: I have already stated that the earpiece is not ergonomic. Plantronics must realize that not everyone's ears are the same. The earpiece should be able to conform to the user's ear. After a while, your ear will become sore. I have somewhat small ears, so if your ears are a little big; the earpiece will probably hurt you.

4. Frequency: This phone only operates off the 2.4GHz band. This is very inadequate. Older phones and routers operate off this frequency. So you will can have some issues with interference. Plantronics should upgrade to the latest phone standard; 5.8GHz.

5. Not enough accessories: Many of the ergonomic problems could be solved via additional accessories. Plantronics could just offer different style earpiece units for the model; yet they don't. They could also just sell improved microphones; yet they don't. Not to say that this is how the problems should have to be solved. For this kind of money, the phone should sound and feel great.

Overall, this phone does its job; which is to keep you multi-tasking. It also prevents you from having a soar neck; as you will not have to pinch a phone against your shoulder anymore.

I recommend this phone; but I wouldn't pay more than $100.00 for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Sound Quality, Works with my wireless network
First, I get excellent sound quality. I use it for conference
calls every day, and the other conferees say that they can
hear me really well, much better than a former cordless (Uniden)
phone also at 2.4 Ghz.

Next, I have a wireless 802.11b network, based on a Linksys
WET11. Yes it can totally shut down the network, but if I push
the "chan" button while attempting to transmit data on the
network, after several pushes it seems to find a set of channels
(it uses spread spectrum) that allows me to talk and use the
network at the same time.I found that an even more reliable
method is to be accessing a webpage or somesuch at the same time
that I push the "talk" button. In that situation it consistently
chooses a channel combination that coexists peacefully with my
network. In fact I know I've hit the right combination because
I hear a small amount of static in the headset when transferring
data over the network. Oh, and by the way I have my wireless-b
channel set to 11.

Overall I'm very pleased with the phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars GARBAGE
This video phone is the biggest garbage in the world. I bought one it is a waste of money. Video quality is horrible and cheap!! U will not be happy with this. I also have a motorola OJO video phone. That is much better than this. If your gonna get a video phone get the OJO. The price is higher but the video quality is superb!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Defective out of the box
I bought the "2 fer the price of 1" units.1 for me, 1 for my folks in New England so they can see my daughter via the video phone.Seems like a good deal, right? The 2 pairs arrived to me in the Midwest.I kept one and shipped the other to New England. My folks and I set up our units only to discover their unit is defective and does not power up when plugged in.Great!Terrific! Now my folks have to repack and ship the defective unit to me.I then have to re-repack it and send it with my working unit back to Amazon.By the time we factor in all of the extra postage required for the returns and the forwarding this dual deal is hardly worth it.We are going to try again and I've ordered a replacement pair.I guess I'm a sucker. Is it too much to expect this product to work?Buyer beware. And patient.

2-0 out of 5 stars Costly repair
I bought two units of the beamer and sent one to my family.Turn out one unit is defective - something wrong with the camera. If I send it back to Vialta for repair, they charge me close to $100 + shipping.I think this is a ridiculous amount, as it is almost enough to get a new one.

1-0 out of 5 stars They call this video
Simply doesn't work.Tried on number phone line connections.Definitely not video - at best can use for a snapshot of the person on the other end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vialta Beamer - 2 pack
We purchased the Beamer video phone just before our baby was born 2 months ago and LOVE it! We gave one to my parents and kept the other. We use it almost daily so my parents can watch their grandson grow from a distance. Since no family members live near by, we are planning to give them to the rest of our family for Christmas so everyone can take part in the fun. Of course the picture is not always crystal clear. We have learned that you shouldn't move around too much and you can adjust the picture quality with the buttons on the side. You can also take a snapshot photo, which stays on the screen until you push the button to take it off. This is a good feature when you have to walk away from the camera or do something you don't want the other party to see. Overall, this is a fun new device that we love to use daily. Be sure to call your long distance carrier to get the best rates so you can use this frequently! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment
bought two. returned both.first unit broke after two days of light use, and was completely non-functional.Second unit confirmed performance issues I had with the first before it broke, so it was returned as well.

The speakerphone's full duplex action is not nearly as good as the marketing suggests. The microphone is rather weak, so my listeners tell me. The unit runs very hot all the time, which is a little worrisome. And even the handset doesn't give good voice transmission.i recorded a message with the handset and then listened to it, and it was mediocre quality.Sounded like I was on a headset, not the handset.

Wish this thing was as good as it looked.Still looking for a true top of the line quality 2-line speakerphone without voice mail.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Speaker phone
Got this phone because of the great success I had with Polycom phone systems in conference rooms accross Enterpise America.I am not disappointed. It is VERY loud and everyone has said I sound great.I think the echo-ing is a function of room dynamics.Mine are fine, but I have been in rooms where this has been a problem. If you like multi-tasking while on the phone, this is your phone (and mine).Full-Duplex is a must.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product at a rather high price.
This is a great phone for office. But the price is a bit higher than it shoud be.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for the price
With some trepidation I bought the PolyCom SoundPoint Pro #225 but it turns out to be just fine *for the price*.I suspect that a lot of the disappointment comes from making a direct comparison of this phone with the high end PolyCom equipment found in so many office conference environments.I think it's unrealistic to expect this desk top phone (...) to be as good as PolyCom's conference phones selling for three to four times as much.

It is the best desk top speaker phone I've used. The loud speaker perhaps emphasises the bass too much. Thus sometimes recorded voices sound "boomy" but normal conversation seems excellent. It's a bit like hearing voice programs on a high fi system designed for music.I find it definitely good to acceptable. My correspondents have reported good quality sound.

Full duplex operation is excellent *as long as the highest volume for the speaker isn't used*.This is important since at the maximum volume full duplex seems to break down a bit.I suspect that some of the disappointment comes from trying to use this phone at the high volumes normally used for a conference phone. For normal conversations at my desk, I find setting the volume up half way is plenty loud enough and full duplex works well.Conversations are extremely natural.

All in all, I find this a good desk top speakerphone, better than anything else I know of.Yes, I would like and would pay for something better in the configuration of a desk top phone.Until I find one this phone is serving me well.

Note: I would save the money of buying the model with the second speaker.I never use it.This is not a true conference phone.Buy a high end PolyCom phone for that. You won't be disappointed.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not good for the long haul
When I bought this phone about two years ago I was excited, expecting for the price that it would be a great speakerphone and have other good features.

All during my phone usage people I talk to through the speakerphone say it's echo-ey.My my office may be a bad place for a speakerphone.Along with some other reviewers, I have found the volume too low.

In the past year:
The ringer on line one has stopped working,
The hand set has stopped working,
The headset has begun to squeak in a piecing tone.

Overall, I'm in the market for a new phone, and this one is not on my list!Especially for the price--no way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars See Loved Ones Over Phone Calls - Send Photos From Camera
I bought this product because I cannot be with family overseas.I bought direct from Vialta, and split my shipment, one to me (Chicago), and one to Philippines (Cebu).

I called my sister I was able to see her on the telephone, I almost cried, I have not seen her in over 4 years!

We later tried sending photos.I loaded my Compact Flash card into the Beamer, and tramitted these pictures without any problem.

This is the perfect 'Stay In Touch' gift you can possibly give your family.Who are you going to 'miss' this Christmas?

Thanks Vialta for a simple to use, wonderful product!

Amazon.com Product Description

Add color, motion video to any phone call between yourself and another party using Vialta's Beamer. There are no hookup hassles, service fees, or extra per-call expenses. The Beamer is compatible with any home phone over a standard analog phone line. It requires no additional equipment or wiring, although to use the video features, the other party you're calling will also need a Beamer phone (sold separately).

Setup takes only a few minutes. Just plug your phone line into the Beamer and then connect the Beamer to your phone. When you call another Beamer owner and press Start, video is transmitted to the other party at up to 15 frames per second. For your party's privacy, the unit displays only a message on your screen until the other party also presses the Start button and transmits video back to you.

In addition to video, you can use the snapshot feature to send a high-resolution still image of yourself to the other party. The snapshot feature doubles as a privacy mode, temporarily preventing video transmission for as long as you want. Enjoy three viewing options: self, to view just yourself (how you will appear to the other party); other party, to view your called party; and combo, to display both you and the other party at the same time. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Works great for technically challenged relatives
We bought 2 Beamers to use with my elderly in-laws.They were able to work it, the image is okay, and they enjoy seeing our kids.We also have webcams for our computer enabled family, and they work much better and there is no phone charges, but this would not work with my in-laws.The videophone is obviously a little choppy, but if you make sure to have a well lit room it shows a nice picture. My 2 year old son goes up to it and says "Pop-Pop, Pop-Pop" when he wants to see his grandfather.Even though they live 3000 miles away, it feels like you are much closer

5-0 out of 5 stars Hi Mom!
Appearance: Lightly tinted bluish beveled glass surrounding the palm-sized LCD and camera aperture. The rest of the unit is that type of matte finish hard plastic used in laptops. It resembles a picture frame or a small LCD monitor (which it is, in part).Three simple controls on the side of the unit, and three ports in the rear -- two for phone jacks and one for the power supply. With this unit, you supply your own phone, which may be more convenient in some cases and saves on space.
Function: You call into the other location and ask them to activate their video station, and the unit on your side activates automatically. There is a 20 second delay for the video to rev up, then both sides can see each other. The unit tilts about 30 degrees on the base.
Quality: Not bad, meaning, it's fair, but comparable to the standard line speed of 33K.The screen is big enough and bright enough for my parents to be able to view with their not so good eyesight. The unit doesn't respond well to movement like all videophones, but if the image shown is relatively constant, voice and video transmission is good and synchronized. The unit has a simple switch to decrease the resolution which prevents rebuffering delay. The unit also has a picture in picture feature so you can see what you look like.Activating this feature does not seem to slow transmission.
Ease of Use: So easy, my parents could hook it up with phone tech support. (Me.)Very easy to activate and non-threatening interface.Hook up time is about 2 minutes; installation instructions are good.Connection time for calls is really no more than 25 seconds. The unit provides good, clear responses to inform about delays in transmission or problems with connection.
Problems: The unit generates some slight heat when plugged into the adapter.I pull the power adapter out of the unit to rid this problem. It doesn't work with all phone lines, like PBX.It works with my run of the mill ten year old phone.
Overall: This is a solid, well-designed and engineered unit. It's been made to be usable, unlike some amalgams of technology I've seen.I remember the videophones of five years ago with prices in the fifteen-hundred dollar range with quality that wasn't half as good as what this unit. This unit is affordable enough to buy a few of them to distribute to the family. This unit is good for grandkids to see grandparents and closes the physical distance in an amazing way, because its like looking at grandma through a really small window in the house.I had serious doubts about this technology actually working, having not seen this unit prior to buying it, but it works.

This is a fantastic product that allows my husband and I to stay connected with the children and grandchildren who are located throughout the United States! It took a little bit of effort to get set-up the first time, but the Vialta Customer Service was very helpful. It has been very easy to use subsequently. The video quality can be a bit jumpy when the little ones are moving around excessively (e.g., demonstrating their karate moves), but is made up by the ability to see our family live. The grandchildren (located 2500 miles away) were able to celebrate their grandfather's birthday party and watch him open up thier present. We love it!

Paired with your existing cordless or corded phone and an analog phone line (one or two lines), the Beamer FX Videophone Station with Digital Picture Frame lets you talk face to face and also share digital pictures with friends and family who may be right next door, or on the other side of the country.

As a videophone, the Beamer FX offers a low-profile design with a built-in 0.25-inch CMOS camera that can capture and transmit motion video. Transmission speed is dependant on phone line quality and connection rate, and both parties involved require a Beamer product. There are no additional service fees required for video operation, so the only charge to your phone bill will be for normal long-distance.

As a digital picture frame, the Beamer FX lets you view images directly from your digital camera's memory card--no PC or additional card reader is required. The unit supports five popular memory card formats--CompactFlash (Type I only), Memory Stick, SD, SmartMedia, and MultiMedia Card--and saves up to 12 of your favorite images on its internal memory for later viewing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Loses its Charm Quickly
I bought this phone almost two years ago and, let me tell you, it loses its charm FAST.The different Disney song ring tones that are at first cute, quickly become annoying and there really isn't a "standard" ring tone to enable.Further, the phone has several major drawbacks:

1- You can't cradle it between ear and neck and go "hands-free" while doing dishes or folding laundry because the adorable Mickey shaped on/off button is at just the right spot to hangup on you every time.

2- There is a ring delay/disconnect delay. So, when my house phones are all ringing, this phone is behind.By the time Mickey starts singing, the answering machine downstairs has picked up.

3- The phone doesn't keep a charge and has to be in the base after almost every call.

4- This is my second phone; the first caught fire when I plugged it in for the initial charge and had to be exchanged.

Overall- cute concept but definitely needs some design revisions.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hang up problem is a deal breaker....
No matter how cute & stylish this phone is, it just doesn't make up for the fact that I hang up on the person I'm talking to EVERY SINGLE TIME I attempt to hold the phone on my shoulder. I go out of my way to walk to another room to answer a different phone so I don't have to deal with this constant problem. So I might as well not even have it....

3-0 out of 5 stars Didn't last to long
The mickey-mouse phone was nice while it lasted, after a while it stopped working, the phone doesn't turn on anymore and sometimes it doesnt ring. i thought that it was the battery so i replaced it but that didnt work i replaced it twice thinking it was the wrong one that i bought the first time but nothing its still down so its cute and the ring tone are addorable but its just for show and tell now thats it. SORRY TO SAY BUT ITS NOT WORTH THE $60.00 THAT I PAID FOR IT.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Design
Let me first say, I love the look and idea behind this phone...I am a big Disney addict, BUT whoever designed this phone should be fired!I have 2 kids and I work out of my home and need to use the phone a lot.I cannot even count how many times I have hung up on poor unsuspecting souls on the other end.If you even press the phone into your ear too hard while holding on to it, it will hang up!And, the caller id feature is horrible also.It constantly misses calls.I do not use this phone anymore! (but I keep it plugged in because I like the Mickey Music when I get calls)

1-0 out of 5 stars Love the thought behind it, but bad design!!
This phone is cute and I loved the ringer sounds and the thought behind the design, but the people who designed this obviously never really tested it. You can not do ANYTHING while you are on this phone...you hang up on people constantly. I am a very busy mother of 3 and it is soooo embrassing to have to call people back and apologize for hanging up on them.I do not have a time where my hands can just sit and hold a phone to my ear.I am constantly resting the phone between my shoulder and ear, this phone is not made properly to allow you to do that. I highly recommend against purchasing this phone!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent "old time look"
I love my red payphone, it has been getting alot of attention from everyone who sees it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good conversation piece and great way to save spare change
Telephone works well and looks and feels like a real pay phone. It does double as a bank and the family puts extra change in it to save up for DVD rentals and pizza nights. The red phone looks great against the yellow wall in our kitchen. The Amazon price including shipping is still less than anywhere else including Ebay ($68). The only drawbacks are the chrome accents are over plastic and there is a modern ringer on the telephone. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful!
I was skeptical of ordering this online - however I was pleasantly surprised when I received the phone, it is great, it is a Real Phone, not these modern plastic faux chrome phones that have no personality. This phone has plenty of personality and the ring is also authentic. The only reason I did not rate this a 5 star is that I wish the dial had a light in it - that lights up at night - my original princess phone had that and I just loved that feature but all in all - you princesses out there will love it!!! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars It could have been better
I had this phone for over a year. At times I loved it and at times I went searching for other phones. I replaced it once but the replacement died and decided to give this one another chance. Part of the problem was I didn't read the instructions or just forgot some. I think some of the people reviewing this phone are having the same problem. If you are getting a bad connection you should try changing the channel. Everytime you add a wireless device or electronic device you run the chance of causing problems with other wireless devices. Changing the channel fixed a problem I had and I bet it would have fixed some of the other reviewers problems also.
Pros
ringtones
silent flash
good range I can take it outside
good lcd

cons
no EASY way to add ringtones
no speakerphone option

1-0 out of 5 stars INSECURE
Note this is an ANALOG phone, despite being on the 2.5GHz spectrum, and its signal can be picked up by other wireless analog devices, like wireless headphone or speaker systems

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst phone i ever bought
i thought you know maybe this phone would be cool for the dorm, ive had it for a little over a year now and its horrible, granted the changeable faceplates and ringers are neat but it has very poor reception, i keep losing a signal, then i get this weird noise when im on the phone the person im talking to can hear me but i can't hear them and end result of that is i have to put it back on the charger for a few mins. its just a piece of crap.

1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy
I bought this phone and 3 months later it wouldn't work right. I would talk on it for about 10 minutes and it would start to make noise and I couldn't hear the person on the phone. And then it would cut off.

1-0 out of 5 stars Garbage
I bought one of these and had to have the company send me a new one. All that I had was constant static and the caller id call waiting didn't work. I decided to return the first one and send the second one back to the company. Save your money and time and aggravation. Don't buy this. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Purchase at own risk
This phone is a piece of junk.I bought this phone six months
ago and now the info globe no longer works. The buttons on
the phone are small and the volume level is practically
non-existent.It was really difficult to hear callers.
The one feature that I liked was the info globe (when it worked)
as I could see the caller id from across the room without
having to view the screen on the phone. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Looks cool, works bad
I had the previous model of the st louis phone and it lasted awhile and was great, but it quit working and I got this model. Its absolutely worthless!I can hardly hear when im on the phone with someone. And, the retractable cord would be a great idea if it actually retracted properly and had enough cord to actually retract. There are also little lights in the top, I think they are supposed to work.. they don't.and they clock seems to work randomly. This is the most unreliable and useless phone I have ever owned. It looks really cool though. They should have spent more time on its funcionality instead of packaging.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great "Guy" Toy!!
It's big, it's bulky, it's heavy; it's completely impractical-and it's terrific! This is a fully functional telephone, modeled after the field telephone carried by Lindbergh on his famous solo Atlanic flight. The top case has a working compass, and a series of lights which flash in sequence to display the route of Lindbergh's flight when the phone rings.
The receiver isn't a plastic toy-it has a satisfying heft; the cord retracts into the base; the buttons for redial and speed dialare big chunky push buttons. This is a "retro" phone in the best sense-smoothly functional and up-to-date technology without the feel of being a plastic knock-off.
If you're looking for a telephone to compliment a den, library, etc. this is a handsomely crafted & interesting item. ... Read more
