3-0 out of 5 stars A fair phone for a while
I have had this phone for a few years and had to send the handset in for repair to the headset jack. After another 3 years, it needs to be repaired again. The cost to repair and ship it twice is about what it would cost for a new phone. So, I guess I got my money's worth, if I don't get it repaired. Time to look for a better phone system....

1-0 out of 5 stars piece of junk
This phone is so terrible I would not take one for free if it was offered to me.Uniden should be ashamed of this product. If I could rate this less than one star I would.

2-0 out of 5 stars Make sure you know what you're buying!
I have an older model Uniden phone that looks very much like the 7926 I just bought for a 2nd home office phone. I immediately noticed that the sound quality in the 7926 earphone (and with a hands-free headset plugged in) was very much inferior to the older unit. The 7926 has a distinct "hiss" around each word spoken--kind of a "white noise" in the background that starts and stops with each word spoken or heard. For me, this hiss gets more irritating as the volume increases. Also the range to the base is far less than the older model. I just checked the model numbers and features and found that the older phone is a Uniden exs9660 and has digital spread spectrum (900 Mhz). The new phone is of course, the exi7926, which does not have spread spectrum, and is, I assume, analog. Wow, what a difference. No "word-hiss" at all in the older phone--I'm assuming this is due to the DSS technology--and much greater range. If this is because of the DSS, I gotta return the 7926 and get something with DSS. More expensive, but worth it for me. Hope this helps someone else who is shopping (I don't think the exs9660 is still available, but am checking).

1-0 out of 5 stars No way to turn off ringer!
Don't buy this phone if you have teenagers using line 2!

This phone has a ringer on the base unit and one in the hand set. You can only turn off ringer on base unit. Handset toggles from low to high volume, presumably so you can always locate the handset. Some clever programming by Uniden could have fixed that feature. Unacceptable in 2001...

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoying the phones
I had ordered one for my husband a year ago because it had all the features he wanted. When I was in need of a new phone I read the reviews which were no longer favorable, but didn't have a problem with the phone set up and hanging up on people or the static when you are in close range of the base. Since I have ordered a second one for my home office - I have noticed static problems when I get to far from the base - but I know it's not a 900mhz phone and I didn't pay for that. The phone works great in my office and that's where I leave it - but I can walk around the upstairs of my home with it - no problems. ... Amazon.com Product Description

The VTech VT1932 900 MHz digital cordless phone with dual keypad and speakerphone offers convenient features that make your busy life a little easier. The phone is also small and sturdy, with a base that can be wall mounted or placed on any flat surface. Plus, the enhanced digital audio signal providesclear sound up to 60 feet from the base.

The VT1932 includes a keypad on the base for quick dialing with the speakerphone. You can place and answer calls from the base even when you can't find the handset. However, when you need to locate the handset, the intercom button on the base pages the handset with a continuous ring, making it easy to find.

The VT1932 displays caller ID information on both the base and the handset, so you'll always know who's calling before you answer. The caller ID memory can store up to 50 names and phone numbers along with the time and date of each call. You can use the left and right arrow keys to browse through the list of callers in the caller ID log, or you can access up to 50 speed-dial numbers in the phone's directory. When you locate the number you want to call, press the talk button and the phone automatically dials for you. If you receive a voice mail message, the message light on the base unit illuminates and turns off only when you have listened to all messages.

The VT1932 also has a two-way intercom that allows you to talk between the handset and the base--great for communicating with family members who may wander off with the phone. For hands-free operation, you can even use the speakerphone function from the handset, attach the belt clip, or plug in a compatible headset (not included). --Megan Dugan ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I have had this phone for nine months and have had no problems to date. The range is good. The speakerphone is also excellent. My only problem is that it would have been nice if the phone had a clock on its display. Other than that it works excellent.

1-0 out of 5 stars Forget this one
This phone had every feature I was looking for-dual keypad, speakerphone, etc.Unfortunately, any time I walk to the back of the house or upstairs,it cuts out and reads "channel searching", then finds a new channel. This happens alot.I do not have a big house. As soon as I walk away from the base it starts in.It is so annoying and it happens about every 1 1/2 minutes until I go back into the room with the base.I live inresidential area of a small city so there isn't a lot of interference from surrounding buildings. It just shouldn't channel surf this much.I'm dumping it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect.
I've owned a VTech cordless since '96, and when the lines on the display started to "go" from old age, I was thrilled to replace it with the 1932 because it had precisely the features I wanted--speakerphone on the base and dual Caller ID--with none of the ones I didn't--a second line or answering machine.

Unfortunately, the Caller ID on the base is not all it's cracked up to be.

It does display the incoming call information while the phone is ringing, but you are unable to scroll through (or place calls via) the stored Caller ID information. This is one of my primary uses of CID, mostly to check "who called" before dialing in to get my messages, so this is a major dissapointment.

I have emailed VTech's customer service regarding this issue, but they did not bother to respond.

Also, the speakerphone in the handset is unimpressive. It cuts in and out and really isn't useful for carrying on a conversation. It's serviceable for waiting on hold, but even then it can be difficult to tell the difference between the party picking up, and the phone cutting out. This is a minor issue because I rarely use the speakerphone on the headset, just that on the base for listening to messages.

Other than that it is a nice phone with good quality, I just wished I'd bought it from somewhere with a more leniant return policy.I would have taken it back and waited for "next year's" model, which surely will have these problems fixed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Forget this one!
I bought this phone on the strength of the good reviews here. Sorry, folks, it has a few problems, starting with the fact that it uses so much juice that the battery cannot make it through a 15 minute phone call. It doesn't give very much warning before it dies either. It needs to be charged all night, EVERY night, and still cannot manage to make it through the day.
In addition, the caller ID sometimes registers the previous call instead of the current one. The same thing happens with the redial.
I have some saved messages that I don't necessarily want to hear every time, but I get a ring back if I don't listen to every message. In all fairness, this could be the fault of my voice mail rather than the phone.
Don't buy this one! ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone, great features
In the process of setting up my home office, I needed to find the right phone. My company recommended a corded speakerphone, but I like to be able to move around when I need to. I spent several months and purchased a corded speakerphone and 2 cordless phones. I wasn't happy with any of them. Either they didn't have a mute button on the handset or they didn't have one of the features that I was looking for.

I needed a Spread Spectrum (security) cordless phone with a mute, msg waiting indicator, and (if possible) a speakerphone for those long teleconferences that I could just listen to. This phone had all of those features AND sounds good regardless of whether I use a headset, the (cool) Handset speakerphone feature, or the base speakerphone feature. And it was much cheaper than other DSS phones that I looked @ in the stores.

1-0 out of 5 stars keypad goes bad after a year or so + Poor customer service
I am very disappointed that after only about a year, the keypad on the handset went bad. I called VTech and they basically told me that I had to buy another new phone.

Guess thats what I'll do...It just won't be another VTech. Very disappointed in the quality and customer service. I will never buy another VTech product again!

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad Customer Service
I bought this phone, absolutely loved it, but when it was just over a year old (just out of warranty), I broke the belt clip. Called V-Tech, they said they couldn't get a clip for it any more. I asked to be bumped up to a supervisor, who nicely said that they were just on order, not in stock, and would I like two when they got them in? I said yes, but two months later when I called, even though they have a record of me as a customer in their system (located by phone number), they had NO RECORD of the previous conversation, and again told me that the belt clip was no longer available.
Nice phone, but I will NEVER order another V-Tech product, because of poor customer service, and being lied to. I have three of their phones, one now has a display that is funky, another has sticking keys. I will eventually replace them with ANY brand except V-Tech, and them write them a letter, telling them why.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with this phone
I too was disappointed to realize that this phone doesn't have a line-in-use indicator, and that the backup battery will not power the phone during a power outage. Both features were present on earlier VTech models. Also the speakerphone isn't nearly as good as my previous model VTech 2-line. This phone is a big step back, feature-wise. What really burns me is six months out of warranty, the displays on both the base and the handset are losing segments. The handset is no longer readable, and both displays get less readable by the week. VTech wants over half what the phone cost to repair it, and I'm afraid it will just go out again in a year. I don't recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst phone ever
The sound quality of this phone is awful.Sometimes you hear a dial tone from the other line. The phone cuts out and rings loudly when the other line rings.I wish I would have returned it.I'm putting this thing in the basement and buying a better quality phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars It doesn't show extensions in use ...
... and the lack of that ability makes this telephone totally UNACCEPTABLE!!! Very unfortunate.

I've had a 2-line 900 MHz VTech for years and was only looking to replace it because the display was finally starting to break up, and it didn't know how to deal with the 10-digit dialing now required in my area.

I tried VTech's spendier 2.9 GHz phone, but returned it because it was too complicated to use and I couldn't read the darn screen ... way too tiny, and absolutely impossible to see in any dim lighting!!!

I decided to revert back to one of their 900 MHz models tonight and was just thrilled when I got the 2931 home. It was an improvement from my old model, because not only did the base have a keypad, it also had a display. Best of all, I COULD READ IT!!! And it lit up nicely. I was SO excited ... for about 10 minutes, until I realized that it will now show when an extension has one of the phone lines in use. How ridiculous is this??!! You pick up the phone and are clueless whether someone else is already using the line! How can it be that a feature that worked perfectly fine in their older model is gone in their newer one??!!

I went to the VTech website, and was discouraged to see that it's not just a defect in the particular phone I bought ... they know about this problem. In their Frequently Asked Questions section, here's what they say for WHY DOES THE LINE IN USE INDICATOR NOT LIGHT WHEN AN EXTENSIONIS IN USE: "The phone you have may not show other phones in use. Some phones will only show Line In Use if that phone is being used. Please check your owner's manual for info on how this feature works. If you phone should indicate Line In Use when an extension phone is in use, this feature works by sensing the line voltage that is provided from your local telephone company. When someone picks up an extension phone, the line voltage drops and the Line In Use indicator will turn on. If the line voltage does not drop enough, the Line in Use indicator will not come on. The line voltage needs to drop 7-9 volts for this feature to operate properly. There is nothing wrong with the phone. You can contact your local telephone company for assistance with this problem."

Grrrrr ... I'm returning this phone tomorrow, and I'm really sorry that I have too, because I love how the displays looks, the big buttons and all of the other features of this phone. Shame on you, V-Tech!!! ... Read more
