1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even bother!!!
I purchased this phone and had no problems for a few months - aside from the fact that you have to reset the phone message everytime the power goes out. However, at one point, I went to answer my phone and got shocked! Blew out the phone completely! I figured that this phone was flawed, and took it back for an exchange - same phone, same problems. And again, I went to answer the phone and got yet another shock, and blew out the phone!! This phone has serious flaws and should not even be stocked!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars don't be conned by conair
let them keep their callkeeper.in a word, it "sucks."i attempted to make a call using the attached so-called phone. the person i was speaking to asked if i was ina wind tunnel and i had to instantly switch to my cordless (2.4 gz).as bad as the phone is, the fidelity of the tapeless answering machine is worse.its only virtue is its compact size, yet consideringit's as functional as a giant dead battery, size counts for naught.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that great
This phone was given to me as a gift.It seemed to work ok for a while.Functionality is good, even though the sound on the outgoing and incoming messages is surprisingly fuzzy for a digital machine. But after only about a month of use, the receiver has a lot of static. The person on the other end of the phone cannot hear it, but it makes it very difficult to hear anything. Also, there were a lot of complaints from the people I was talking to that they had a hard time hearing me even though I would be talking in a normal tone of voice. This was even before the static problem started.Basically the phone portion is now useless, and I'm shopping for a new phone/answering machine. So, don't think this product is all that worth it unless you don't use this phone except for the answering machine. ... Amazon.com Review

If you're looking for a two-line multifunction telephone for your homeor home office, the GE 2-Line digital messaging system is an ideal candidate. Itprovides conference calling and digital answering for each line, all in oneelegantly designed desktop unit.

After plugging in the phone line and AC poweradapter, a synthesized voice let us know the system had been activated. We foundthe unit sturdy and attractive with an organized layout. The digital answeringfunctions are grouped together at the top of the unit, individual programmingfunctions on either side of the numeric keypad, and line and speaker buttons atthe bottom. Memory buttons are conveniently located next to a directory for at- a-glance reference. Basic functions, such as ringer volume and clock settings, can be found on either side of the unit.

Although programming the phone wasnot completely intuitive, we had no problem following the owner's manual. Forexample, to set the date, we held the time check/set button until the correctday appeared. We set the time by selecting the current hour and minute, pressedthe star button to select AM or PM, and then pressed the time button once againto save.

We found the digital answering functions easy to use without themanual. The large buttons are clearly marked and straightforward. A voicemailbox is provided for each line. The synthesized voice guided us through muchof the setup, such as recording a greeting and playing back messages. You canrecord different outgoing announcements for each line and can set them to playduring specific hours, or you can activate a particular greeting remotely.

Youcan store up to 24 numbers for memory dialing and easily access them at thetouch of a button. To store a number, you press the store/in button, enter thenumber to be stored, press the store/in button again, and select a memorylocation button. To clear a stored number, just skip the second step of thestoring procedure.

For a three-way conversation, simply place the party on thefirst line on hold, call the second party on the other line and press theconference button. Other features include speakerphone, conversation record, anda distinctive ring for each line. --Emily Bakko

Pros:

  • Digital answering system with timed outgoing announcements
  • Convenient memory dialing
  • Sturdy, attractive unit; can be wall mounted

1-0 out of 5 stars A Piece of Junk
Just had the 2nd phone fail on me today. Both had worked fine for about 6 months, then the handset failed for absolutely no reason. The answering machine part of it still works, but no dial tone on the handset.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Too Bad
The sound quality of the hand set is excellent. The hand set is robust - dropped it on the floor several times with no problems. Phone controls easy to use.The one poor feature is the quality of the sound of the played back messages.Voices are garbled and difficult to understand.I've put up with this for about a year and a half and I'm looking for a new phone. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Still looking for a decent 2 line phone & answerer!
I bought this a year ago to replace an almost-new AT&T model when I discovered that the AT&T model had a nasty habit of hanging up on people in mid-message, or sometimes failing to answer at all. In other words, the AT&T machine was garbage.

This Panasonic is sooooo much nicer! And for several months, it performed perfectly. But lately, it's developed some problems:

- even though I recorded my outgoing messages clearly and they sound fine when I review them, callers complain that they can barely hear them.

- if someone calls and doesn't speak sufficiently loudly when they leave their message, this machine will hang up on them in mid-message.

I dunno.. it's such a nice phone, with great buttons & all the features, but I'm back to square one. Somebody please tell me: WHO MAKES AN ANSWERING MACHINE THAT ACTUALLY TAKES MESSAGES, the WHOLE message, EVERY TIME? Certainly not AT&T. And I guess not Panasonic. I'm running out of models to try.

4-0 out of 5 stars durable two line with long recording time and vox activated
This is a great answering machine for the person who is looking for an extended time that the incoming caller can record (100 min.) and allows the caller to leave as long of a message as they want. You just can't find this on any of the phones available at this time 12/27/2003. I have been using this phone since it first came out, approx 4yrs ago. At the time I thought it was pricy ($249.00) not including shipping, but I'd pay it again, the phone is that worth it. It is durable, I've dropped it several times on hardwood floors, and keeps on delivering those messages.Easy to use, many features that I don't use, because I never took the time to investigate them all.I would like one thing it doesn't have and that is a removable hand set, but it works well in sync with the other two line panasonics I have plugged into other jacks, so it's ok.I wish panasonic still made a machine with these features, multi line and decent speaker phone....I know others who would like this phone, but can't find it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still looking for something less complicated!
Overall, a good machine; speakerphone and caller ID memory are wonderful. But lots of steps to follow to access basic functions, even remotely. A couple of times, I know for certain that this machine has failed to record messages from callers...NOT good! Also, the recording quality leaves a bit to be desired, too; this is particularly true of the outgoing message quality; for some reason the callers' messages come through more clearly. (Hint: record your outgoing message remotely, from a quiet location--seriously!)

4-0 out of 5 stars Very nice, but missing a couple of key features
A very nice piece of telephone gear, integrating the phone, answering machine, and caller ID functions. I only have two complaints: 1. For some reason, there is no MUTE button! A mute button is the greatest, particularly for tele-conference calls. 2. There are no one-button speed-dial buttons. It can remember 100 names and numbers, which is great, but to access the list you must: a. turn the jog dial, b. press a letter key, perhaps a couple of times, to get to the desired first letter, c. turn the jog dial some more to get to your desired entry. That's a lot of activity to call someone you call all the time! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Panasonic's KX-TSC7 Corded Phone with Caller ID is an ideal phone for those who just need a simple phone and want to know who's calling. It doesn't have a lot of advanced features, but its sensible design makes it easy to use and keeps the cost down.

The KX-TSC7 has small touches that make it a great overall telephone. The LCD screen has adjustable contrast settings, and it can be configured to show either Spanish or English text. It also has a call timer, convenient for business users or people using prepaid calling cards. The LCD shows three lines at a time, so the caller's name and number can be displayed at the same time, and the phone supports caller ID/call waiting (also called visual call waiting), so you can see who's trying to reach you while you're talking to someone else. Voice-mail subscribers will appreciate the phone's ability to intercept signals from your voice mailbox and flash an alert to let you know that new messages are waiting.

When contacts call, it's easy to move their number from the caller-ID memory to a virtual address book. You can store up to 50 numbers in the phone, which you can later dial at the touch of a button. The phone's voice quality is great, helped by the fact that the handset has six volume settings instead of the usual three. The ringer on the base also has two volume settings, not including an off position.

For people with voice mail and caller ID who are looking for the voice quality of a corded phone but don't want to spend a lot of money, the KX-TSC7 is an excellent choice. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Supports caller ID/call waiting, voice mail, and 50-number caller ID memory
  • Handset and base have multiple volume settings
  • Doesn't require power from an AC outlet
  • Bilingual display
Cons:
  • Included handset cord is short
  • Memory lost if batteries allowed to fully discharge

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken as Designed...
I got this phone and promptly returned it.The problem was that the
Caller ID didn't work when I called in on my Verizon cell phone.I
know for a fact that the Caller ID is coming through, since I see it
on other phones (including other Panasonic phones!), but this one just
says OUT OF AREA.Broken as designed.I ended up getting an AT&T
Model 858.It's a shame there are so few options in traditional
corded phones that keep up on the newer features.I was loyal to
Panasonic for a long time but not anymore.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a Good Choice
I bought this phone for the caller ID feature. The display can only be read if you look at it just right and the caller ID stopped working after about 3 months.
Poor design. Poor quality.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broken-Right out of the Box
I was really looking forward to this phone. I needed a caller ID phone that didn't use an AC outlet. There aren't many out there.I respected the Panasonic name but what I got was awful.First, I hung it on the wall but I couldn't read the display while I was standing next to it.I had to stoop down to about 5 feet above the floor to read the display. To program the phone I had to get a chair and sit in it to perform the program. That's when the big problem was discovered.

The LCD is about three lines tall. But only half of the middle line was "lighting" up.The LCD was busted!I waited a week for this?So far the Amazon return process has been friendly, but I dread looking for another phone.

Other drawbacks: no short cable for wall mounting, no free AA batteries.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too small and hard-to-read display
When I read the reviews before buying this phone, I was thinking maybe some reviewers were just being too picky about the caller ID LCD display. Now that I've bought it myself, I totally agree that it's caller ID display is a pain to read. If you just sit at your desk looking at it, what you see is 888888888888888, and everything that the LCD has on it.The only way to read the display is to hold up the phone in ONE particular angle; any slight change of angle will make it impossible to read. In addition, even if the angle is right, the readings are too tiny. This is in contrast to the large dial buttons which is a good thing about this phone. I like the small size of the phone. But the settings and display are very frustrating. It's better to buy a cheaper phone without caller ID and buy a separate calelr ID.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disapponted
I really like panasonic phones in general - I have 2 cordless phones & an answering machine which are panasonic. When I went looking for a corded phone with caller id, I was excited to find this one - the size and design were exactly what I was looking for. However, the display is difficult to read unless you're standing above it and the caller id feature is lacking.Specifically, I found that I cannot recognize cell phone numbers - it displays them as "out of area" with no number attached to them.By contrast, my other panasonic cordless phone displays "out of area" AND the phone number for cell phones. This is important because I like to distinguish between telemarkets and my friends with cell phones. With this phone, I can't. ...
