4-0 out of 5 stars You can count on it
I have had this unit for over a yr and cannot say anything bad about it.
I have never lost a call.I have walked all over the house and outside and the call never faded.I have moved fr orig area and still in the hills can go outside.Sticking with the 900. I do need a speakphone now, so this baby will go in bedroom and plan on buying a uniden phone with speaker. good buy and dependable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product!
I was a little hesitant about buying this because of all the bad reviews I read, well I am very glad that I went with my instinct. It is the best phone by far that I have purchased. The battery life is awesome! And it is so user friendly! I highly recommend this phone!

1-0 out of 5 stars save your money...
i never write these reviews but felt compelled after buying this piece of garbage.it worked ok for the first few month but then i gradually started hearing more and more crackling and interference.the straw that broke the camel's back was when my fiancee called and i couldn't hear her. when i tried to change the channel it bascially just died.i promptly spiked the phone on the floor into a million pieces.the battery never seemed to really hook up right to the unit, the caller id came up when it wanted to, and the reception was uneven.

save you money!!! buy something else.

3-0 out of 5 stars Something you can live without
I bought it from my Amazon goldbox. my review follows...
Plus: So it comes with caller ID and one mailbox digital answering machine (must haves for small apartment dwellers with space-saving requirements).
Minus: The handset is designed for Frodo Baggins. It is rather uncomfortably small.
On Net: Save yourself the trouble - buy a higher than 900mhz set.

5-0 out of 5 stars great value
This telephone is great even though it was only [dollar amount]. I bought it to replace a older unit and it take's less space and has more options than one's costing [dollar amount]. The best part about this aswering machine is it come's with a professional prerecorded message, so I don't have to listen to my own strange voice when it answers, although you can record your own if you really want to. I also like the time of the message is given. I would say this is better than having a secretary, it tells you what day, time and how many message's you have with out having to look at a flashing number. The phone it self has about every option you could want saved numbers, caller ID and somethings I'm over welmed by. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I couldnt talk without it !
I have had the phone for over four years now and i love everything about it. With most cordless phones you have to get more then one type and with this one you can get just another handset and if your not near the hand set or your to lazy to find it just pick up on the speakerphone. What isn't there to love about it. If you are looking for a long lasting good quality phone this is the one for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pooly designed keypad
The keypad on this phone is very small and gave out on me just after a year.I see that VTECH uses a similar keypad on newer models.Beware and don't waster your $.

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent features, mediocre signal
First off, for its price, this phone has a very nice features. I love having a hansfree speakerphone on both the base and the handset. The phone does everything I need to do. I was very impressed with it when I got it. I'd give it 5 stars on its features/price alone.

Unfortunately I have to give it 3 stars, because of its mediocre signal quality. This phone is simply unusable around any type of 2.4GHz interference, particularly 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networks. Long antenna shaped objects nearby also tend to cause interference. I knew these limitations before I bought it, and I figured it would be okay because I need to use this phone in my dorm room, which is not very big, so signal issues wouldn't really be an issue. But having said that, I can't go too far outside my room before the signal drops to unusable.

5-0 out of 5 stars A W E S O M E ! ! ! !
You have got to choose this phone - I have had it for two years, and can easily say I will never switch!!!! It has NEVER given me a problem - The intercom feature is nice, and the speakerphone on the handset is the clearest around!!! A definate pick!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice features but poor sound quality
I bought and used a lot of phones over the years. Had old 48mhz cordless phone, 900 mhz phones, 2.4 ghz phones. My take so far is that 900mhz is better than any of those other cordless phones. I don't know why. Also Uniden seems to be better on sound quality. The VTech 2431, my newist edition, has lots of features, #1 speaker phone at handset, handy when you try to dial for tech support or bank, you can go through the automated menu like a pro without tiring your hand or neck. and it is quite nice, the sound quality is better than the reqular handset.
#2. Multiple handsets up to 4. Well, I learned my lesion, never try to register more then 4 phones, cause you can't. I had to return one handset due to malfunction, guess what, it won't let me register the replacement. Had to buy a brand new one base unit. #3. spare battery charge in the base which also helps the phone when power is out. That is a very nice feature. #4 it won't interfer with your 8011.b wireless network. Very nice, I had a panasonic which will cut my wireless if I use it.

In the end, I still loves my 3 year old uniden which is loud and clear. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Get what you pay for....
I bought this phone because I wanted a cordless phone with an answering machine (all 1 unit) for my kitchen, but I didn't want to spend very much.Well, with the answering machine, itis very difficult to understand the messages.I have to listen to them from the handset. And the clarity in the handset is awful! Not only is there an echo of my own voice in the earpiece, but it picks up every little sound from the room and amplifies it.It is also very difficult to hear the person on the other end.But what should I have expected from a $13 phone.(Of course it was $30 when I bought it.)I should have just waited and spent the extra money on a better phone as now I am on the search for a new better quality phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars liz
if you have friends who leave real long meassages on phones and you would like to avoid this this phone would be great it consistantly cuts people off after 5 or 8 words and the sound quality is pretty poor.the volume is usually so low and you can never tell how many message you have or erase a skipped messsage you have to hear all your annoying message first. I just bought this a couple of months ago and am now planning on replacing it.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's a fine phone, if you don't need your messages.
This is a typical, low-cost phone, and it works about how you'd expect. The signal doesn't carry strongly through 4 walls -- whatever.

The main problem is the ease with which you can erase the message you're about to listen to, when you mean to be erasing the one you've just heard. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Cordless Phone Ever!!!
I purchased this phone to replace a single handset 900 Mhz Uniden phone that I loved.Since I am a gadget junkie I decided to go with the 2.4 Ghz, and to my surprise it was much worse.I read someone else's review that compared it to a cell phone, but my cell phone is more clear.I would recommend no one purchase this phone. It is a great concern that you can not even count on consistency from the manufacturers of cordless phones.Every time I buy a new phone, I always end up buying a different brand in order to find the quality I am looking for.

4-0 out of 5 stars Already Own Uniden TRU4485-2
I purchased the TRU446-2, because I wanted to add two more headsets to my existing Uniden TRU4485-2.Of course, good idea, bad implementation. The headsets are not compatible even though they look identical.Turns out the "-2" means that the maximum amount of headsets that will work with either base unit is two.So, instead of working as one base with four headsets, I really have two bases with two headsets each.Funtionally, I'm able to do what I originally wanted. However, I have to make sure the right headset goes on the right base!Nonetheless, I decided to keep them.Besides, I paid only $54 at Target for the TRU446-2.I'm happy with the headsets as they do what they are supposed to do.Sound quality is not the greatest, but I've never had a problem hearing or speaking. My only complaint is one of the headsets voice goes out.I have to bang it on the counter to get it to kick in.Once it works, it works fine.I have a feeling this is a defect as I've seen this complaint in another review.I'm hoping this does not occur on the other headsets. If it does, then I will give up on Uniden and buy a better quality system.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great value and an extra phone
What I like most about this phone is the extra hand set that does not need to be conected to a phone line. The main phone is coneceted to a line and the expanded is not allowing it to be very mobile. The only drawbacks are it is asmall phone so the buttens are tight and smal. As others have mentioned the charging station is a bit loose. Al in all I feel that it was a great deal for $65.

Edited on Dec 13 2004: After using the phones for almost a year. I will say I am happy with them BUT, If you have a wireless internet setup it will interfear with it and cause you to loose your connection. If you are shopping for a cordless be sure to get one that is a different MHZ than your wireless router.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product, only a few drawbacks
This phone system is generally a good product.I have had it for over a year and have not seen any of the problems stated in the negative reviews. It has some drawbacks though.1) You cannot use two of these phones at once, they use the same receiver and therefore the first phone on occupies the line.2) You cannot transfer memory contents between phones as some product can.3) It is no better in range than a quality 900MHz phone, but this is true of many 2.4GHz phones.4) While talking, the phone transmissions will conflict with most home wireless PC networks.

On the plus side, it is a quality product with easy to use controls (as opposed to the Seimens units). The mute is relatively easy to use and the remote ear/mic jack is useful for headsets. The battery charge lasts longer than I've ever required.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great range! Great phone! Great buy!
I love this phone system! I bought it over a year ago and I still love it! The clarity is near-perfect, the range limit is great, and I love that you only need to plug it into one phone jack! The best part is storing personal phone numbers and then assigning them their own ring tone, so I always know who's calling before I answer the phone or even check the caller ID! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended
I bought this phone and 1 additional handset about 3 years ago.It worked well for about a year.First the LED screen on one phone went blank, now the LED on the second phone has also gone blank.Sound quality is generally poor.I originally purchased this because of the price - one of the least expensive multi handset cordless phones. Not worth it.I'm now looking to replace the system.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does not have all the functionality listed
I bought this telephone specifically because it is listed by Amazon as having speakerphone functionality. On receiving the telephone I found that this is not the case. The misrepresentation by Amazon has caused me considereable inconvenience.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good features and quality for the price.
This is a pretty good cordless phone that is priced much lower than other units, but still manages to maintain par with them in terms of quality and features.

PROs:
-low price
-one-year warranty
-light and feels ergonomic
-nice button feel
-good reception
-good batterly life
-expandable handsets

CONs:
-occasional echo on the line
-slightly more line noise than on some other phones
-ring sounds are mostly annoying

1-0 out of 5 stars Drops and Makes Clicking Noises
This is a terrible phone. The phone will constantly make clicking noises that only the caller on the other end will hear. There is a loud echo which makes it very annoying to talk with.

TERRIBLE PHONE!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone!
I bought this phone with one additional accompany headset to see how it works.I've had it for over 6 months now (since this review) and so far I will have to say it's a great phone. It has many features that you will be able to read about from the product details or from another review here so I won't go into that.

The phone is sleak looking with changable colored face plates. It allows up to three additional headsets (sold seperately) to "link" to the base which is great. Not only do I used it as a phone but it works as an "internal" intercom system for my home.

The sound qualty is great and it's a pretty durable phone (God knows I've dropped it enough to find out!).Being on the computer as much as I am, I'm greatful for the ability to pluga headset to it which I use when I need to carry it around the house while on the phone.

It hooks up right up with my phone companies services that I have.I'm not sure how it does it but it tells me when I have messages waiting in my "message box"... etc.

I reccomend this phone to anyone who wants a reiable and expandiable phone "system" without paying too much for it. :) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Limited capabilities, why buy this?
This sytem is a bare-bones one that works as advertised. I've had it for over a month, and what I find lacking is:
1) No speakerphone on the handsets. You get spoiled by this feature, and that alone makes it not worth the price for me.
2) Interferes with home WiFi (802.11b) setup. It drops my internet connection every time the phone rings, hence I'm now upgrading to the (pricey) Uniden TRU8885-2.
That being said, it is a solid system for those who don't have home wireless networks or need for speakerphone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
I liked the performance of the phone. More over, it is the make from Uniden, a trusted phone. This phone has got all the features that I'm looking for. It would be the greatest phone if it has the battery bac-up power(when we lose power, the time has to be reset). Over all, I'm pleased with the performance and price of this phone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good features but messes up my WAN
2.4 GHz range is used by my WAN base station. Which makes it impossible for me to use both my phone and the WAN at the same time. This sux.

2-0 out of 5 stars Uniden & Quality - words that don't go together.
Over the past 17 years I have purchased more Uniden phones than I care to remember. I bought them early on because I was young and just starting out and didn't have much money (eg - THEY were cheap). I bought them later on because Uniden phones always offered more features than anything comparably priced (eg - I was cheap).

But thru the 17 years the one constant w/ Uniden phones was that they were all seriously lacking in quality! The early phones just plain sounded bad... the later phones would just break within months.

I purchased the TRU-4485-2 phone system over a year ago (paying a bit more than they are currently being offered for) because of all the great features: two phones, two bases, digital answering machine, headsets etc.. And I hoped that the Uniden quality problems I'd experienced in the past would now be solved simply because these were not LOW cost phones (well, maybe they were considering all that package contains). This phone system was simply the most expensive system I'd ever purchased.

Well... within 3 months both headsets were not working --- both headsets developed shorts in the cord and one phone's headset-jack became loose and would no longer work w/ any headset. I dropped one phone from my lap to the floor and immediately began having problems w/ voices dropping out.

Within 6 months both phones stopped working. Well, that's not exactly true -- they would work when they felt like it. One phone would only work if you twisted it a few times or slammed it against a counter and then it would only work a little while until I 'fixed' it again. The 2nd phone would only work if you plugged in the headset but the headset jack on the phone was screwed up so it was constantly dropping voices (either I couldn't hear the caller or the caller couldn't hear me).

Now, I must admit that I dropped both phones from time to time and while I'm sure that's not a good thing I'm also sure that everyone who has ever owed a phone has also dropped them from time to time. It's unavoidable considering the amount of time most of us spend talking on the phone. Phone manufacturers must also know this and most build quality phones that can take a good amount of punishment.... most of them -- but Uniden ain't one of 'em.

2 stars simple for the feature laden system (hell, I still use the answering machine).

After spending one hundred thirty-eight for this phone system that barely lasted 6 months I once and for-all swore off uniden phones! But wouldn't you know it... my wife went out and purchased ANOTHER uniden system (this one was a cheap $59 two phone, 2.4 ghz) to replace the one mentioned above!?!? When I asked her 'why?' after spending months cursing at the previous phone system, she replied ".. it had more features than the other phones"!

I wanted to take that phone right back but she didn't keep the receipt. This time, the phone sucked right out of the box!! The sound quality was horrible and while it was listed as a 2.4 ghz it wouldn't even work if I was more then a 60 feet and a couple of walls removed from the base.

I got fed up w/ the whole fiasco and went out and bought a couple of industrial cordless phones from Engenius. These phones are metal and weigh a ton and don't have anyway for me to add headsets to them but they sound great and will keep a signal from a city block away...... and they cost an arm and a leg.

Other then the hernia developing from using the new phones for long periods of time --- i'm relatively pleased.

2-0 out of 5 stars Always on the phone....
I'm always on the phone, it's part of what I do best. *wink*
My favorite little subby got Me this phone, although he didnt like it. I HAD TO HAVE IT.

Pros:Adored the various ringer tones!
Very lightweight, clipon for the cami-top, yay!
Headset compatible, siemens didn't have this on the main phone I bought, I had to buy the extension just to use headset!
Easy to read buttons, lights up!
Easy to figure out... hey, very important. Try siemens 4200, then you'll appreciate this point!!!*grin*

Cons:OH MY, I had to yell to be heard, and thought I needed a hearing aid to hear ANYONE!!!The worst reception! And honey, I don't have lots of appliances. I have the bare basics.
Battery life wasn't too wonderful. Bad apple, maybe.. I talk on phone too much?maybe...hehehe What are they for???
Static and background noise in phone. It was there, and it was there anytime I went outside.Even had my line checked!
You have to transfer the call to the other handset. How silly is that??Maybe they should market for businesses only?

I was very, very disappointed. Understand, I am used to 40 buck phones, and I get this 150 ( at time ) buck one, and it is CRAPOLA!!C'mon. Needless to say, My Mother now has a VERY nice phone, as I didn't return it in time.
Now I am giving dad this Siemens 4200, cause it is the bomb in some ways, but SUCKS in the ways that TRULY count for Me. ... Read more

Product Description

See who is calling on the other line while talking on a line! Then let the all-digital answering machine record the message if you decide not to answer the call. 900MHz Digital Transmission operates digitally in the higher spectrum of 902-928 MHz, offering better security, less interference, and improved range over analog telephones. Auto Channel Scan automatically selects the clearest available channel for you. The 2-Line Capability lets you connect and use two separate phone lines. Caller ID with Call Waiting displays the name and number of incoming calls, even when you're on another call. Requires subscriptions to Caller ID and Call Waiting from your phone company; service may not be available in all areas. The unit remembers caller's name, number, call date, and time for review, or instant dialing to return the call, now or at a later date. Requires subscription for Caller ID from your phone company, too. The all-digital Answering System uses a microchip to handle messages for quiet, easy operation, without the hassles of tape. Built-in speakerphone provides hands-free operation, allowing you to work on other things, or answering a call when the handset is in another room. The unit also allows conference calls, or the big family call to Grandma, and provides intercom capability. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst phone I've ever owned
This phone is a total piece of crap not to mention a complete and utter waste of money. My gripes with it are as follows: 1) answering machine is very difficult to operate/program 2) the actual phone itself is uncomfortable to talk into for more than 30 seconds, and 3) for this price range, you could get a much better phone (Panasonic or AT&T).I threw mine away rather than donating it to the poor house. No one needs the extra headache.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent value
I have had this phone for a little over 4 years. For the first 4 years, it worked fine.Recently the handset does not work reliably; I can hear fine but the microphone & headphone connection do not always work - the other person might not hear you.I mostly just use it's basic features. You can dial the number before connecting to the line, which is nice because you do not have to hear the "beeps" in your ear.Overall, I was pleased with this phone and am considering getting another one to replace the defective version.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Deal
The sound quality is great, both for me and for the people on the other end.The functions are awesome, and I really like having an answering machine that works with both lines. The only problem I've found so far is that, as the editorial review said, the advanced features are not as intuitive as I would have liked.I'm going to have to keep the manual handy until I am sure I know how to do everything.

My only other quibble is that someone pasted a little sticker over the one-year warranty, to make it only a 90-day warranty. That's probably because I opted to buy through one of the vendors rather than direct through Amazon, but I still think it's kind of cheesy.

But the phone is great!

1-0 out of 5 stars VTECH not worth the money
I purchased the VTECH phone less than a year ago.The sound quality was terrible, and the phone often frezes up not allowing calls in or out.It must be unplugged an reset to work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value, not high end.
Like all VTechs - great price; acceptable function.I've owned this phone for many years.Reading the negative reviews is disappointing. What do people expect from a phone that does everything for less than $100?The sound and other qualities are adequate, not exceptional.Have your ever made a good recording from a small condenser mike?Try getting closer and speaking quietly.Good range. It is sturdy and reliable. The electrical engineer who needs the manual to set the time should change professions.Just *LISTEN* to the menu. I really like the extra battery serving as power backup - very useful where I live. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Pure Junk
I bought this phone because we owned an old SW Bell Cordless Answering machine and liked it a lot. No More. The hardware is a continuous aggrevation (loses power, noisy, bad volume control) and customer service blames me for all problems. It has gone into the trash - and I have gone to panasonic.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok phone for the money
This phone works, but it is just ok for the money. There are better priced phones with more features on the market.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's O.K
This phone has a lot of features. My only real problem with it is the volume control. I can hardly hear people when I'm on the phone with them. They seem to hear me just fine. Eventhough the handset volume is turned to "High" it's still hard to hear the ohter person.

1-0 out of 5 stars Jason is correct 100% this phone is junk
I have used many cordless phones and concur with Jason 100%.

This is a phone to stay away from.

I still have this POS and am tossing it and moving on to a higher end Panasonic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
We bought this phone because we needed a phone and answering machine quick.I should have shopped a little more. The display is EXTREMELY difficult to read.It works the opposite of my old phone causing me to hang up on people when I don't intend to, and answer calls I intend the machine to take.I'd like to return it to the Target store where I purchased it.The reception is poor and it has no volume control on the headset. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Cordless Phone I've ever Tested!!!!
Uniden has a winner in this model of TRU446 phone. Clear as a bell on incoming or outgoing audio... I'm getting over a 2000 foot range from my house. My friend purchased a panasonic at over 230.00 and this TRu446 out performs it in every way!!! I highly recommend this phone for price and quality.IS OUTSTANDING!!!!...Received phone in two days shipped standard ups from vendor...

4-0 out of 5 stars Uniden TRU-446 2.4 GHz Cordless Phone
The sound quality and the over all options present an excellent phone for it's price. I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars good phone
I replaced my panasonic with this uniden because the panasonic was acting up ,it was a 900 mhz digital spread and the uniden is a digital spread also but it operates at the better high 2.4 ghz. so it should have an increased range but it starts to break up at the same distance the panasonic did, perhaps this is because the companies are advertising the frequency they use but not the power output leaving us still somewhat in the dark. I must admit though that the panasonic had a much better range than I thought it would in wich case the uniden seems to have an ok range and this uniden has a lot of features for a phone in this price range including ni-hm batteries that have no memory so you don't have to tell people not to put the phone back in the charger if it doesn't need charging yet, that's a good selling point to me and I would have bought it sooner if they advertised the battery type a little better. And the ni-hms last a long time. So despite the slight if any increase in range over my panasonic the uniden has to many other thing going for it at that price so I have to give it a good raiting.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great phone until you use a headset
I agree with the other reviews but when I use a headset, my friends complain that it is hard to hear me, a basic platronics headset with a microphone sensitivity switch set to max was an improvement but not sufficient.I have tested these two headsets with other phones without a problem.Uniden's customer service answer was to try their own headset but I fail to see how that is going to help when it cannot compare to the quality of the Platronics.

3-0 out of 5 stars Digital Spread What? Who? How?
...I shopped around and found that the uniden tru-446 looked to be a good deal at [$$$] for a "digital spread spectrum" (DSS) phone [local store].
The research i went through indicated that the DSS technology was capable of transmitting 4-5 times farther than your basic analog or "plain" digital cordless... [The phone] picks up no better. Works okay otherwise i believe. Looks okay, feels okay. Feels solid. But don't bet on DSS solving your transmission problems over longer distances. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works pretty well. Good for the price.
I have used it for quite a while. The answering machine works pretty well. With caller id and call waitingfeautres it's pretty good buy for a low price.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lousy Sound Quality
I bought this phone 2 weeks ago at wallyworld...it has nice features and is pretty easy to figure out how to set it up, but the sound quality is terrible..sounds very fuzzy ...people i talk to say it sounds real good at their end...but at my end i couldnt make out what they were saying....needless to say...." back it goes "

2-0 out of 5 stars Its just ok
There is alot of background noise even when I switch channels. It would be ok for a back up phone if needed.I had a different Vtech phone for many years until I had to finally replace it.I should have got the same one.Don't waste your money, get a better grade of phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT MINI-MACHINE
WHY I SAY THAT IT IS EXCELLENCT MINI-MACHINE? BECAUSE IT IS.
IT HAS ALL THE REQUIRED FEATURES...e.g. DIGITAL ANSWERING WITH 3 MAIL BOXES DEVICE, CALLER ID, ENOUGH CLEARITY IN VOICE AMONG THE 900 MHZ PHONES AND FOR THIS PRICE, EXCELLENT DESIGN, WALL MOUNTING, HANDS FREE OPTION WITH THE EAR PHONE...IN SHORT COOL PHONE.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, but functional
I initially went to purchase an answering machine but when I went to a store this unit was the same price so i purchased this instead. The phone and the machine are very simple to use.But the quality of this item is pretty poor.It does what it's supposed to do, but the sound quality of both the machine and phone isn't wonderful. And the product itself just looks cheaply made. You basically get what you pay for in this instance. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Dependable and cheap
This is a great product, with all features a home phone user wishes. The price could not be matched even by Amazon, a must have corded phone, by the way, its the best corded phone i ve seen recently, the cordless handset is average voice quality but worth its price two times

5-0 out of 5 stars At&T phone review
Excellent features. Don't discount the corded feature. When the power goes out (like it does in Florida during hurricaines) you still get calls through the corded base.An all-cordless system leaves you stranded.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stopped working the 3rd Day
What a shame. I had such high hopes for this system as it was inexpensive compared to others (you get what you pay for). Ordered from Amazon.com and received promptly, but on the 3rd day both the base and handset unit stopped working!

If trying to make calls, it would not connect from either units. When callers called me, I could hear the ring, but not the caller! Yuck. Next time I'll pay more attention to reviews here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I used my cordless in my attic!!!! It has been wonderful in our household!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a great phone.Don't listen to the naysayers...
I bought the black version of this phone about a year ago and I have to say that I'm extremely pleased with it.The corded unit looks so good it's practically a work of art and it's backlit LCD screen is by far the most clear/legible that I've ever seen. All of the buttons on both the cordless and base units are very responsive (no sticking or hard pressing) and the general feel of each phone is very solid. The cordless unit works pretty much flawlessly, but I do have to admit that the reception is not quite as clear as the corded base unit (very few corless phones are). It's still very clear and nothing even noticeable when you're using it. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Plenty of great features but..
I've had this phone a little over a year, and now the LCD is starting to miss some of the numbers/letters.If I want to write a number from someone, forget it, its illegible. The amount of room on the voice list is great, the audio on the outgoing voicemail message is a little fussy. However, the incoming messages are very clear.I found that it losses time, so the clock on the phonebase has to be reset constantly which is an annoyance.I think I will try Panasonic or Sony on my next go round.

2-0 out of 5 stars Speakerphone died after about a year
It sounded garbled and staticky when using the speakerphone and the caller id lcd screen broke. It is unreadable as well. Didn't last long.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bad quality on answering machine messages
I bought this phone to replace my six year old Panasonic digital machine/phone combo that had begun to act flaky.I hoped that I would also get better sound quality with messages since computer memory and processing power have gotten much cheaper since 1998.Unfortunately the messages on this machine are worse than my old Panasonic, which weren't great to begin with.I also was annoyed by the feature that plays back the date, time, number of messages, etc. before it will play your messages:my old phone does this but the AT&T speaks v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y so you have to wait until it finishes its spiel before you can hear your messages (even if it's an old message). The sound quality of phone calls themselves are fine.I didn't try any other features because the message quality was poor enough that I'm returning it.Fortunately Amazon makes that easy and painless -- go Amazon!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great design, but easily broken
I loved this phone. I loved it so much I've purchaced 2 of them. Now I'll admit, I'm rough on phones, but both managed to become unusable within one year of purchace. That is really my only gripe.

Now the good stuff. The design is good. I like the phone, the number of mailboxes, the answering system was great. The caller ID was a tad slow, but not any more than my other caller ids. Overall it was a good phone, but not meant for long term hard heavy usage.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This phone looked like a good alternative for people with wireless networks who want to avoid 2.4GHz interference but don't want to pay the inflated prices for 5.8GHz phones. It has useful features like answering machine and speakerphone. But the sound quality is very poor, even distorted.Callers sound like they are at the bottom of a deep well. You can hear an echo of your own voice in the handset along with a constant buzzing. As 900MHz phones get phased out, it looks like there will be no good alternative to 5.8GHz. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy quality control
I bought one of these last year.I loved the small size; I like to carry my phone in my shirt pocket always. One the first one you hadto tap the base every morning (sometimes more often) or you couldn't hear the other party (they could hear you though).A loose connection. The battery failed within a year. When the headset socket wore out (really) I wanted to buyanother type phone.None were as small so I bought another one of these.I had awful clicking on it all the time.It had to go right back.Quality control at Vtech is nonexistent.I bought a Panasonic 2.4 Ghz DSS and it works great, just too big, although the same weight as the Vtech.A tip for shirt users; wrap a rubber band around the clip so it grabs onto your shirt and doesn't fall off when you bend over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works very well
I have had this for two years now and don't have any complaints. The intercom feature is very handy when you have more than one handset. The speakerphone feature on each handset is also a very nice feature. As far as range issues I haven't had any problems but I have only used it inside my house.

5-0 out of 5 stars tried 3 others, this one is best
I tried 3 other phones, all 2.4Ghz from GE, AT&T, and Siemens before I ended up with the VTech. All phones were placed in the exact same place on my desk next to my monitors.Only the VTech had clear receptiion. And, it is very clear, I can hear no static or distrotion (sounds almost corded).

My only complaint about the phone is that when you delete the call waiting list it beeps very loudly.I can't find anyway to turn down this beep, even though key press beeps are turned off.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good phone bad interception
I´ve had this phone, with two handsets, for over a year and a half. I love that I can use it as an intercom. I don´t have to walk upstairs to go look for my husband after I´ve placed a caller on hold when I´m in my office downstairs. If I´m cooking, I clip the phone to my belt and use the headset. Clarity has been fine. The big problem has been the location of one of the handsets. It´s in the TV room, where there are many electronics, and it´s impossible to use because of the static. I like to have it there because of the intercom and caller ID features. It´s the room where I need it the most so I can get to my husband without leaving my office. I´ve left it there in spite of the static and bought a cheaper phone. That way he can use the other one to talk after I´ve told him over the intercom that he has a call. None of the other handsets have the static problem.

1-0 out of 5 stars This phone ...
I purchased this phone approximately a month and a hald ago and I've had nothing but problems. The renge is horrible in comparison to a phone that I purchased from Panasonic. There is also static and people generally complain that they can't hear me well during conversation. The worst thing about the phone is the battery life. The battery has gone dead several times. I don't recommend this phone. Beware!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone
I live in NYC and there is always a lot of static in NYC. Well I consider myself a technophile and went through 5 phones at least before settling on this. The range and sound are decent and I have not had a problem with the battery draining or it not working over 2 years. Excellent Product and do recommend it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great phone with irritating feature
We got this phone about 6 months ago and have liked it, in general. But, it has a very annoying feature: when you page the phone, it beeps at the base as well as at the remote phone making it impossible to actually HEAR the remote phone being paged.Poor design!

1-0 out of 5 stars static

2-0 out of 5 stars Remember the one about too good to be true....
The IDEA of these phones is a good one - two units, one phone jack, one unit active at a time so no listening in to conversations... but there is something horrid about the reception.Within a couple of months the static got so bad that folks don't want to call our house any more.I'm looking for something else right now and thought i'd warn the others out there to get something else before it's too late.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Reception & Short Battery Life
Having an extra handset and charger certainly seemed like a great idea at the time. In fact, it was the #1 factor in buying these phones. I was confident that they would be of good quality because of a prior good experience with the Uniden brand.

Alas, I'm sorry to report that the range on these phones is woefully substandard. It's literally like being tied down to a regular (corded) phone. The static is absolutely maddening.

Battery life leaves much to be desired. I just got my phones but a friend of mine has been suffering with the same phone for just about a year now and his batteries don't last more than 2 hours. Other users have reported similar problems. Something for me to look forward to, I suppose.

It's worth mentioning that another factor in the decision-making process was that the newer, better 2.4GHz cordless phones were incompatible with my 802.11b wireless internet transceiver. I've been recently informed that's no longer an issue.

And, for what it's worth, the other handset is rendered useless because of the reception issues. Who needs an "extension" that is incapable of "extending." It's like having two phones in the same room. Pointless!

There are much better 900MHz phones out there. Spare yourself the inevitable disappointment and look elsewhere if you need a good cordless phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended - Very bad reception.
Pros:
1. intuitive design and features- I didnt open the manual but but was able to figure out all of the functions and was able to program numbers easily.
2. cost- it's cheap. 2 phones for the price of one.

Cons:
1. Reception- regardless of how near of far I am to the base, I keep getting an annoying buzz sound. It is really irritating when trying to hold a conversation. The buzzing sound comes and goes but it is driving me nuts. The other cordless phones that I own do not have this problem. The basic function of a phone is so that 2 parties can talk to one another. There shouldn't be any static.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lots of hissing noise
I've had Uniden 900 MHz phones before, they worked fine. This model produces nothing but static as soon as I'm more than 20 feet away from the base. Do not buy it, however cheap it may seem.

This phone will be returned to Amazon this week.

1-0 out of 5 stars I exspected more from Uniden.
I've purchased other Uniden's phones that worked great but this one is junk. I had trouble with reception from the start and had never had a reception problem with any other phones before. The phone then had a habit of disconecting in the middle of a call. The last straw was when the extra headset became useless when nothing worked. It was like it had no battery installed. Checked the battery and nothing was wrong with. The phone went in the garbage as I wasn't going to pay more money on postage.

When the phone did work there was one thing I liked and that was the Rocket Dial feature. Unfortunately it didn't work that often. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone
I have this phone and am in the process of getting another one like it. We dropped it and messed up the caller ID. The phone still works great. My mom lives next door, about 400 ft away and I take my phone with me to her house and can still answer and make calls with great sound. I have purchased two other different cordless phones with caller ID to replace this one but have taken them both back because the phones have so much static. My sister in law has even asked me to get on my old phone so she can here me better. I can't wait untill i can get a new one just like this one. It is by far the best cordless phone i have found.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not A BAd Deal For the Price
This product is not bad. BAttery lasts long enough for a 2 hour conversation. Sound is not bad and The telephone has good features!

2-0 out of 5 stars Cheap for a Reason
We got this phone... a few months back, and I've regretted it ever since! It looks nice, is comfortable to the ear, and the clip is definately conventient, but this phone is really a piece of junk! The sound is bad.We have the base in our kitchen and when we have the dishwasher on, or the dogs walk through the dog door, you can actually hear it over the phone, like somehow the speaker is on on the base, when it's not. There's a lot of interference and echo, the person you're talking to sounds like he's/she's miles away.It wasn't bad at first, but it's gotten worse over the weeks. The worst thing is the muting. It'll mute out multiple times in a conversation. You know how most phones have a "Mute" button on them?Well, I have yet to find one on this one, but that doesn't keep it from doing it.I'll be in the middle of a converstaion with someone when, all of a sudden, it'll just mute me out.To the person on the other line, it sounds like you hung up.You can hear everything the other person is saying, but they can't hear you. It's a nightmare, especially if it happens after you've been holding for 20 minutes and finally get through to the person you want to speak with, only to have it mute out and the other party, thinking you hung up, hangs up on you! There's no rhyme or reason to it; sometimes you can get through a whole conversation without it happening (though that's rare), and sometimes it'll happen 3 or 4 times in 20 minutes.A mute out usually only lasts 4-7 seconds, but it can go on longer.I thought at first this was a defect in my phone only, but my uncle, who bought the same one at around the same time, has the same exact problems!

Save your money and your frusteration. If you need another phone, do yourself a favor and don't go with this one! ... Read more
