Amazon.com Product Description

Operating on the quiet 2.4 GHz band, Uniden's TRU3466 transmits digitally for exceptional range and minimal static. Plus, the speakerphone lets you talk hands-free, or lets the whole family in on the conversation. The two-line LCD on the handset works in conjunction with caller ID/call waiting services, and the phone stores 80 caller ID names and numbers in addition to the 40 speed-dial presets. With call waiting, an interrupting caller's phone number and name will be displayed even if you're talking on the other line.

Of course, this phone features the basics you expect, like flash, redial with memory (storing the last three numbers dialed), pause, and hold. In addition, the handset and base act as a two-way intercom. The phone is not wall mountable, but it does feature a belt clip and can be used with a headset. This factory-refurbished model is backed by a 90-day warranty.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stay away from this model!Total Disappointment
Looks Great - Feels Good - Didn't Last!As stated from other reviews - poor reception, clicking sounds.Confusing Caller Id format. (Not to mention extremely small display window)And after 1 year of gentle use, on one of the handsets, the 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5, buttons no longer functions. What a waste! Avoid at all costs!

1-0 out of 5 stars a waste of money
I bought this dual handset cordless phone when my Sony cordless died. This phone has numerous problems. First, there is a really annoying echo that comes and goes when using this phone. The "1" button on one of the phones has now died, and the caller id is confusing. Instead of registering the calls in order to review later, you can only review the phone numbers of callers who are not already stored in the caller id memory, and the caller id memory is not even in chronological order by date. I am never buying a GE phone again.

4-0 out of 5 stars There are far worse out there
I just got this after having a HORRIBLE system from Bell Phones. For the money, it's not bad.In response to some other reviewers, no, it doesn't automaticaly add a "1" before a long distance number if you're returning a number from the caller id.However, all you have to do is press the "format" button while viewing the number, and the "1" is added. This is good for someone like me, who lives in an area where I always have to dial the area code when calling anyone (even within my own area code)I only have to dial a "1" when someone is far away (and they might still be in my area code. It's very confusing)
As far as the echo and the static goes, I haven't had a problem with that.Hopefully I won't.I agree with the other people about the caller id list, though. It's very confusing, it's not in order of calls. Also, there is no voice mail waiting notification. But other than that, it's not bad.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a recommendation
This phone has absolutely terrible reception. There is a constant "white noise" in the background and a profound click that happens every 30 seconds. I have not had one conversation on either of the handsets without having to ask the other person to repeat what they have said because of this click.

Another severe disappointment is the caller id. The calls are not listed in received order. I have yet to figure out the order they are displayed, but there is no way to tell what the most recent call is without scrutinizing the date on the call.

The last disappointing aspect I am reporting is that on the caller id display, any call outsite of your area code is not displayed with the preceding 1 (for long distance). This means you may not simply hit the talk button to call back the caller on caller id. You have to punch in the number with the preceding 1+...

There is no redeming feature on this phone to make it a worth while buy for any reason.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible phones
Click, click, click... Never stops clicking when talking on them. Can be heard from both ends. Bad Static. Poor range.Everything interfeeres with it.I will never buy another GE phone.I loved the look and feel. I like the features. But it's use is rediculious. And the batteries are always going dead.Avoid these phones. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great for me
I've had this phone about a year, and it has always worked flawlessly for me.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked OK for 1st 15 months..then randomly loses power
I bought this phone about 17 months ago for my work-at-home office..I wish I could plug my headset into the base unit as I sometimes forget to put handset back on re-charger cradle..and I am then forced to use speaker on conf calls.
The phone worked well for the first 15 months and only lately...
(Now that the warranty is up) has it been randomly dieing durng a call.
The base unit simply loses power and I must pull out and then re-connect the power at the back of the phone to restore operation...By then I've lost other party..
I will not buy a GE phone again...

1-0 out of 5 stars Simply horrible
I have purchased a lot of high end electronics, phones, etc. This may be the worst purchase ever. After about 6 months..the LCD screen went bad, sound on the other end muted, and reception horrible.I literally after 6 months threw the phone away and replaced with Vtech and Motorola.Save your money and go with one of the other brands.

1-0 out of 5 stars A phone that doesn't ring...
I bought this phone the other day as a replacement to a $9 corded phone that died. When I hooked it up, the speaker phone and handset got dialtone no problem.I then called the phone from my cell phone and it didn't ring. All the other phones in the house rang, but this one didn't.I then moved it to another jack, same thing.I then called again and it rang.I called again, no ring.I called about 20 times and about 1/3 of the time it rang, 1/3 of the time it rang only once, and 1/3 of the time it didn't ring at all.I brought the phone back to the place I bought it to get a new one and had the exact same problems. After messing with this phone for about 3 hours, I finally bought a $19 900Mhz phone at the local *Mart that works fine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Phone Ever
This phone looks beautiful but it is not worth your money. It has a lot of static and at times will not work at all.Do not buy this product or one that resembles it. I have never been more disappointed with a phone. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this phone
Just like the other people the BATTERY on this phone is he worst I have ever seen. I have been a cell. phone user for years but never come across a phone with a battery problem such as this model.

Battery lasts only 5-10 minutes when the unit was completely charged. I finally trashed this unit.

1-0 out of 5 stars Please don't buy this phone
I've owned a Panasonic cordless phone in the past and it was wonderful. It's probably 7 years only and still works great. But this phone has had one problem after another and Panasonic customer service refuses to take care of the problem.I've been through two phones already and they each have had different problems (no battery life, fading signals, etc.)I recommend an entirely different brand.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible battery
This phone started out great, no problems. But, after having it for about 5 months, the battery just quit.It can be fully charged, but it will only last for 10 minutes of talk time.Don't waste your money on this phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars WORST PHONE EVER
Whatever you do, don't buy this phone, new or used.I've had it for 6 months, and a month ago, the battery died. When fully charged, I can talk on the phone for 20 mins. before it dies.

1-0 out of 5 stars This phone is the worst
I've had this phone for about 6 months. It was great until about a month ago, the battery just died.It can be fully charged, and then after about 20 mins. of talk time, it is completely drained and unusable.DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Finally, I know why my gift sucks...
I bought this phone for my folks as a gift. Couldn't talk to them
on the phone since then... It was almost always out of power...
What's wrong with the batteries, my fellow engineers?
Now I accidentally read these updated reviews on the phone and
90% percent of unhappy buyers say the same. What am I going to do now? Who the heck will give my 119 US dollars?
I've got nothing but call my folks and ask them to throw away
the garbage i bought for them. What a shame, Panasonic!
(...)
ciao.

1-0 out of 5 stars 20 min. Battery Life
The battery life is just bad. The phone goes dead after about 20 minutes. I advise you not to make an important call on this phone. You have to store phone numbers twice. Once for the base and again for the phone, too time consuming. I have charged the battery for 10 hours already and it's still in the first bar. Just bad.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad battery, bad reception.
I bought this product on the strength of good reviews from Consumer Reports. It had poor reception right out of the box (our other cordless phones are crisp and clear at the same jack). It alternated between sounding like a cell phone with a weak signal and sounding like I was having a phone conversation in an echo chamber.Within weeks the battery would not hold a charge through a single 5 minute call.Took the phone back to Best Buy, which declined to exchange or refund because an extended warranty was not purchased. We left it in a heap on the counter at Best Buy and said good riddance (to the phone and Best Buy).

1-0 out of 5 stars This Panasonic Phone lacks cordless range
I own the PanasonicKX-TG2267 and the
Panasonic KX-TG2593B 2.4 GHz DSS 2-Line Cordless Telephone.

I purchased the KX-TG2267 because I did not need another answering a machine, wanted the speaker phone feature on the handset and wanted the lower price.

Both phones are two line phones and both handset have acceptable volume and features like call ID, the problem is that the quality of the recption on wirless hand set of the KX-TG2267 is poor.It also has very little range.

The KX-TG2593B is a much better cordless phone, I think it is because of the DSS feature.Buy this phone!

5-0 out of 5 stars My first 2.4Ghz
I had to make a switch from my beloved (and old) 900Mhz Uniden EXAI7980 (read my review) after it "expired" on me.Being used to a particular phone for years, I decided to purchase a system with similar features in the 2.4Ghz range.I found that this model from Panasonic has got the most complete set of options for basic cordless answering systems.By the way, Amazon's description of this system may be misleading; it is actually a cordless "answering system" and not simply a cordless "telephone".

I'm a practical user, I really don't have the need for setting caller IQ or maybe even enter or donwload 40 or 50 phone numbers into the system. What I really wanted was ease of use, a quick setup, reliability and a good manual in case I get stuck.

A quick-installation manual was included, no need to open the big, detailed instruction booklet to simply hook up and get the phone to work, that's one big plus. With this quick 6-page guide I was able to set up and understand the most basic features most people will ever require: Recording the greeting message (I love that part!), setting up the day and time, listening to messages locally and remotely, using the handset, where the buttons are and what they do.

The detailed instruction manual explains every feature in detail. You'll see a diagram of every button on your phone and what page in the manual explains their use.

I have no problems with battery life, either I am a lucky person or I simply followed the instructions to charge the handset for at least 15 hours before even lifting it up.No problems with reception either, I followed the clear instructions on the guide to locate the phone away from electronic equipments such as TVs, PCs and microwaves and to place the phone base as high as possible in a central location.

One additional plus about this phone is the presence of dial buttons on the base unit.Sometimes this important feature is overlooked. In case the handset's batteries run out, you can still dial numbers using the base and talk using the speaker phone.

Overall, this is a good product. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Beeping Noises
We bought the phone yesterday for what we thought was a good deal.Unfortunately, this phone is the noisiest phone I've ever tried.Dialing means you have to incur an annoying clicking sound, and hanging up involves a loud beep.Simply putting the phone on the base requires earplugs.Returning this sucker tomorrow.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't use in Kitchen
After having three phones from Southwestern Bell and having problems with all three, I was told by their customer service reps that their phones don't work in the kitchen. That's seens funny.Where do most people have their phones. The battery doesn't stay charged, there are moments when it just cuts out for a couple seconds, and the volume is bad even when you turn it all the way up.

1-0 out of 5 stars I want my old phone back.....
Using this phone has been a frustrating experience.I initially liked it because of the wall mount and the way it tilts back forholding the handset. After that there are no redeeming features.People on the other end always said we sounded far away or they could barely hear us.On the receiving end, we experienced a lot of background interference - hissing, echo, and word cut off.I tried two of these and got the same result. It's too late for me, but save yourself the headache (literally from all the noise).I'm going to live with the sticky keypad on my old Panasonic and put it back into service until I find something else.

1-0 out of 5 stars I want my old phone back.....
I expect quality transmission in a phone and from day one with this model it has been a lose lose situation for me and the person I am talking to.The person on the other end always says the same thing - "you sound really far away or I can barely hear you".For me, there is a continuous hiss and an echo when I speak.Despite the sticking key pad, our old Panasonic cordless is superior to this phone. For now, I dial out using the new phone and conduct the call on the old phone.I still need a new phone - the Soutwestern Bell phone has got to go!It's too late for me, but save yourself the headache (literally from all the hiss in your ear) and select another cordless phone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Design Flaws and Bad Reception
Bad reception seems to be a common complaint for cordless telephones.I simply don't understand why cellular phones have better reception than cordless phones within a small, enclosed space.
The reception for this phone is shoddy, plagued by interference no matter which channel I switch to.The people on the other end of the phone sound very far away and "tinny".Setting the date and time on the phone is difficult.Don't bother trying to set the date/time for the handset, you can't, although you can for the base.It displays the wrong time and date until you receive a caller ID phone call.
Unlike other cordless phones I've owned, you can't choose the ring tone. You also must wait through a very long introduction until you can record an outgoing greeting. Each time you try to record it, it states "To record a new greeting, press and hold the greeting button. Please continue to hold the greeting button until you have finished recording your outgoing greeting".The phone also beeps very LOUDLY when you press the talk button, either to answer to hang up a call.
While I realize that the phone is inexpensive for an all-in-one cordless, digital answering machine, caller id unit - it's not worth the price I paid for it.I could have spent more and had a really nice phone.I don't recommend purchasing this item. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone - Great Value
I've had this phone for a good 2+ years now.I've recently had to change the battery for the first time, so no big deal.I have another (older) Sony model cordless in another room which I'm looking to replace (and use as a paper-weight) - so, I'm going to just buy another one of these Uniden's because the clarity is so good.I especially like the Caller ID/Call Waiting features - I would say that my only complaint with this phone is that it only holds 10 phone numbers for auto-dial... I've got more friends than that! But, you can't beat the practicality and functionality for this price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone, Excellent Clarity and Quality.
This is a great phone. No static or echo like some other phones. I had bought one, initially, with doubts, and found no problems at all, and then bought another of this same model for another room in the house. To the reviewer (Phone didn't work....at all!, January 18, 2002), did you let it charge up for hours like you were supposed to when you first plugged it in?Does not sound like it.That may explain why it did not work when you first plugged it in.I followed the initial handset charge up, and it has been great. Also, nice shaped handset is easy to hold and comfortable on the ear.Had both phones for probably 2 years now and still on the original factory battery in the handset.Another brand I had, the battery lasted less than a year!

1-0 out of 5 stars Phone didn't work....at all!
I pulled the phone out of the box, plugged it in and...nothing.It didn't work.Don't waste your money on this phone.

5-0 out of 5 stars john d.
I have only had this phone for less than a month, but I haven't experienced any of the bad things that some of the other reviews mention. The reception is very good - no static what so ever, and the range is great! This is the first 900MHz phone I've ever had so maybe I'm just not used to being able to walk around the whole house during a phone call, But I sure was suprised to be able to make calls from the back yard. Forget the negative comments! For the price, this phone is a great value!

5-0 out of 5 stars Battery Life
A lot of reviews here have concerns about the battery life. That is because most cordless phones come with Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) batteries. NiCad baetteries have a memory effect which means the more often you charge it, the shorter the battery life. To to exrtend the battery life, you should only put the phone back on the cradle every few days or so to recharge. If you really love the phone and your only concern is the battery, you might want to consider investing in a Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery. MiMH batteries have no memory effect. It will however set you back about [price] but its cheaper than getting a new phone. If you decide to get one, make sure you bring your old battery with you so you get the one with the right tpye of connector. I wouldn't get one right away though. If your battery still works, use it till it is dead. No sense in wasting a battery you already paid for. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a great phone!
Well I've owned the Uniden TRU-448 2.4GHz DSS cordless phone system for 2 and a half years now and it still works as well as the day I bought it.That in and of itself says a lot, considering that prior to buying this phone, I went through about 8 others in a year's time.

The sound quality is extremely clear for a surprisingly great distance away from the base unit and the digital answering system is great for screening calls (you can use a pre-recorded digital voice instead of recording your own message, if you so desire) and can be set up so that you can check your messages remotely using a self-programmed 3-digit security code. The speakerphone works flawlessly and the programmable features are easy to set-up as explained in the manual. It has a comfortable ergonomic design, is compatible with most standard headsets and has useful features like programmable speed-dial and variable ring-tones. It is also surprisingly sturdy for such a lightweight piece of equipment as I have accidentally dropped it a few times and it has suffered no adverse effects (though I don't recommend testing this intentionally).

Of course, it has all of the standard features like caller ID with call waiting, flash, redial, light-up keys, volume settings, etc.For me, the biggest selling point was the ability to add-on additional phones in other locations of your home or office without the need for more phone jacks. All you need is an electrical outlet where you want your additional handset(s) and you are good to go! Saves you having to call the phone company to install more phone jacks, as long as the "homebase" unit is plugged into a live phone jack. Less cables and junk to have to hide!

Couple of cons: Don't hold this phone between the head and shoulder - you may actually accidentally hang up on the party at the other end - I have done this numerous times (guess that's what the headset is for!).Also, the 'end' button, which is used to hang up or end a (programming) process, is miniscule (even by my standards, and I have small hands). It should have been designed larger, or the talk button should be a toggle button, as with most cordless phone systems.People who are used to the toggle systems for answering and hanging up may try that a few times with this phone only to come back to it later and realize that the phone is off the hook.

3-0 out of 5 stars A very good phone
The most I like about this phone are the sound clarity, ease of use, and size. While talking from a good distance from the receiver, I've had not problem with sound. The only think I get is good quality sound.I don't miss anything what other people say.

Two things I dislike about this phone are the end botton, and the words on or below bottons.First, the end botton is fairly small. If you miss pressing it after you've done talking, which I have done several times, the phone will continue to be on and no one else can call you.So, very careful with this button. The words fade very rapidly if your not careful.I had my phone for 9 months now, and almost all the words are erased. This is all from normal usage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone/Answering Machine
At first, I was disappointed, until I realized that I had plugged it into the DSL outlet. When I finally hooked it up correctly, it worked great. The digital answering machine sounds clear. The phone sounds great from anywhere in the house.Haven't tested it outside yet (too cold).I've been updating the built-in phone book through the caller-id function...very convenient (don't have to type everyone's name and phone number in).Good stuff.I also like setting different rings for various people in the built-in phone book.Locals I have set for one ring, long distance set for another.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not what you think!
I just bought a different brand name and it was not worth it. You can hear yourself talking back into the phone and it has static. I will not pay that kind of money for a digital phone. I just read in the sunday paper that digital phones are not worth it and have alot of problems! I returned that phone and will stick with the phone I have!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good buy
Wife hates it..we have had trouble with signal breaking up and static on transmission.Contacted Uniden repair and they said to move to new location..easy said but not convenient to us.

Micro Wave seems to drive it nuts.I guess it would work fine if used in the front yard. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars i'll never buy uniden again...
I bought this phone and another Uniden phone just over a year ago to replace two old cordless AT&T phones I have had for almost 10 years. They both worked fairly well for a few months, not as good reception as the old phones, but no complaints. Now however, most of the buttons on this one don't work anymore.I have to call from saved numbers or put the phone down and use an object to press very hard on the numbers. Also, a huge complaint...the batteries die VERY quickly.Pieces of junk.My friend who had bought a Uniden right before me recommended it to me...hers is not working well anymore either.I just bought 2 new AT&T phones...hopefully they are as good as my old ones!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, solid phone--NOT Great, however.
It's everything a phone should be--clear, convenient, holds its charge well, etc..I like the feel of the handset. However, the speakerphone ....It's in the base unit, so if you are dreaming of putting the handset down for hands-free use while you cook in the kitchen or whatever, dream on.Only one person can speak at a time with the speakerphone--if one person is on the handset and another on the base speakerphone (a common arrangment when my wife and I are phoning family), the speakerphone cuts off while someone else speaks. That is, you can hear them, but they can't hear you until everyone shuts up and waits a second or two for the speakerphone to turn back on.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible phone
I bought one new.Terrible interference when using a headset.Returned/ replaced.Terrible interence persisted.Terrible phone- stick to the 900 mhz.

3-0 out of 5 stars I returned the lastest version-- the Tru3485DSS
I returned this phone as it had an annoying echo/reverb sound when speaking into it. Listening to others speaking to me--well--they sounded great. But when I spoke there was this nasal, echo, sound of my own voice--I just could not stand to hear it!!!! Others listening, had no such sound. Quality to them was great. I bought a panasonic KX-TG2563 (which the sound quality is the best!). Problem solved! But this phone does not have an answering machine--I use a separate machine--as I did not like the quality of the panasonic answering machine system. The two I bought (KX-TG2583 and KX-TG2670N) had a "grown sound" between messages, when playing the messages back? I returned both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone and great value
This is the second unit Im buying of this model. I havent been a big fan of Uniden products, but this has been outstanding. The setup and ease of use is very good. The buttons are all in the right place, and its easy to hit the desired control quickly. The sculpted buttons have a nice feel and feedback is good. The overall comfort and heft of the handset makes it a pleasure to use. The sound quality is the best Ive seen, and the range is surprisingly good... say 200' through several walls. Ive dropped, kicked, dunked, washed, and generally abused the handset far beyond what I think a phone should be able to take, and it's taken it all in stride. The answering system, while far from CD quality, doesnt have that annoying nasal garble typical of most digital systems, and has plenty of memory. Selective playback and deletion of messages is intuitive. Fast recharge and days of standby battery life so it doesnt have to go back on its cradle often, and the pager/finder is nice and loud so you can find it when it doesnt. I like the styling and the small footprint doesnt take up much counter space in a crowded kitchen. Only tiny flaw is that the flash button is hard to find and doesnt engage long enough to switch over on call waiting; its probably programmable if I took the time to read the manual. By far the best cordless phone Ive ever used. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Great phone if you never make a call...
I liked the message center feature and speaker phone which is why I bought it. Unfortunately it stopped working about 5 months after I got it. Just doesn't dial the numbers at all after it's been off the charger a while. Sometimes it works if you keep switching channels. Of course since I threw it at the wall it doesn't work at all. I only paid $25 for it on QVC so it really doesn't even pay for me to pack it up and ship it for repair. Spend your money on a Toshiba. ... Read more
