Short Lived
I only have four children, using the sharpener at home. After about one year the blades were dull and it was chewing up pencils and spitting them out.I think for $20 I should have had more use.A replacement cutter costs $10 plus shipping; no replacement parts available in stores.

Only Lasted One School Year
I'm currently shopping for another sharpener for this coming school year.This Panasonic model, purchased last September, only lasted the school year (barely) with a class of 22 fifth-graders.Even then, I had to take it apart once to fix it (not very difficult -- all the parts are accessible, and I only had to slide a plastic piece back onto its post.)If I can find a more reliable sharpener, I will certainly spend extra to buy it, but this sharpener is probably a good value if you have less than 22 heavy users.

Great machine
This Panasonic pencil sharpener replaced a more expensive Boston model.Boston needs to buy one of these and see how a real pencil sharpener is made.

Positive experiences,recommend for fine art pencils
I have used a number of these sharpeners and have been pleased with the performance of each one.This sharpener is dependable and consistently sharpens to needle sharp points.The blade is long lasting and great for artists that travel.Canister for shavings stays securely attached so no unexpected messes in your suitcase or artbin.The smaller of the two openings fits German made artist pencils, such as Faber Castell, just perfectly.

Poor quality
Cheap sharpener, in many cases your pencils will cost more than this sharpener.
But it's a good sharpener to avoid. It chews up the wood of colored pencils, and never gets a sharp point. For lead pencils, the amateur blade cuts to a very dull, steep point. By design, this will never sharpen pencils well. Not even worth the low price. It's a shame, because Staedtler has made some very fine products before. ... Read more
